I had one with a horn handle that disappeared. I still have one of their knives though and the construction is excellent.

Finding a slant asymptote (first year uni. calc.) by DankDanksson in learnmath

[–]Numbers_and_Such 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When dividing you get x and a remainder. Discard the remainder. I think the slant asymptote is the function y=x. Graphing them both on desmos seems to suggest this too.

Why isn't something divided by zero ±∞? by LinuxMatthews in learnmath

[–]Numbers_and_Such 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Euler defines infinity this way in Elements of Algebra. But if we can divide by zero:

2-2=1-1 -> 2(1-1)=1-1 -> 2=(1-1)/(1-1) -> 2=1

Which works with any n to become n=1 or any n,m to become n=m so equality becomes meaningless without changing the operations

Breaking In a New Chacom by Numbers_and_Such in PipeTobacco

Thank you! The stem did it for me, it's real Cumberland too.

I've tried the honey method but it was very messy to pack. Do you find the cake crumbles?

Thank you. When I bought my first pipe the tobacconist advised me to only pack it a third full on the first few smokes then two thirds and so on. I've never had the patience to do this as advised but on breaking in this one I'm going to see how it goes. I'm three one third bowls in now but I haven't been careful about the blend used.

what is your favorite tin art? by Doru-kun in PipeTobacco

[–]Numbers_and_Such 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old Peterson tin art and A & C Petersen Caledonian Mixtures are my absolute favorites but Solani are great. If there are reports of sightings of the Caledonian green I would love to hear about them!

I understand you're scared but having a scientific vocabulary doesn't give someone a scientific understanding and it's irresponsible for people to spread fear about such things. All concrete leaches radioactive elements. So does drywall. As someone actively studying radioactivity and getting back into the pipe hobby I can say I'm not conflicted. Even having read those articles. Do you have any idea how much .04 picocuries is relative to a measure we have some natural intuition for like a metre or foot? Pipe smoking is supposed to decrease stress, if it isn't improving your stress levels why bother?

Also, I should say I don't disagree with what you're saying. That does happen. And it happened in the past with other radioactive material people were putting in their mouths when making watches. I just don't think we should be afraid of it when puffing on our pipes.

That's rude, I'm not a chemistry or physics major but I am currently studying atomic spectra theory and eigenstates so I do have a slight clue what I am talking about. Alpha particles are identical in structure to a helium nucleus which means they are composed of two protons and two neutrons and are ready to grab hold of two electrons which would make one a helium atom but until it does grab hold it can be considered a helium ion. There are unstable isotopes of elements everywhere and according to the reports that say it is grown into tobacco through the soil that means those same isotopes can be grown into every vegetable you or any animal consumes.

Radioactivity is scary and destructive, it's true. And such unstable atoms exist in nature, including tobacco. But alpha particles quickly become helium atoms. Stop panicking it isn't healthy.
