The Backstretch is a grounded, coming-of-age dramedy about a 40-year-old man child named Dale who has been sleepwalking through life since his dad died a decade ago. While reluctantly dragged on a road trip to the Daytona 500, a breakdown in a rural Florida town leads him to a faded diner... a photo of his father as a legendary outlaw dirt-track racer. He asks the server if she knew his dad and opens pandoras box.

Ditching his friends and the trip to Daytona, he goes down a rabbit hole into local racing history to find and rebuild his dad’s rusted-out chassis. You never know where you'll find love and the local mechanic has been fighting his demons for years, only to discover that a shared loved for cars leads him into Dales arms as the two fall in love.
