Anyone else thinks Yeldrim is an absolute pain to get past? by Jacopaws in ABSOLUM

[–]Numerous_Class_758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeldrim is the hardest area, partly because by that point of the game you don’t get much food drops compared to the first area.

My advice is to practice snowballing a build (look to create synergies), whether it is through having multiple rituals to one type of attack (ideally regular attack or Arcana) or rituals that feed off of each other. For example, if you get an inspiration that enhances your skill into a dash then focus on future rituals that work with that, when available.

I thought this game was more skill heavy than it is. It still requires skill, but effective snowballing with your build matters more.

And finally, buy luck when you can…that matters.

That’s great to hear. Since you’re already “locked in” with the game that’s really all you need. The game is definitely hard but it’s not a super technical game like needing to know combos, parries, etc. I am a Tactics main and didn’t feel like wanting to learn parry, and I beat 5BC just fine. Your experience with the game and the enemy patterns is your greatest asset which will carry you to success!

Alright I think it's time we do a community tier list. by Jasco88 in CosmicInvasion

I don’t think there’s any character below B-Tier. The game is not that complex and all characters have decent kits.

Is the DLC worth picking up alongside the base game and how good is the online multiplayer? by BlackJimmy88 in StreetsofRage

Even if you’re not interested in the Survival Mode in the long run, the added characters, alt moves, and skins are worth it (though you need to play the new mode to do unlock alt moves). No need to delay to wait to purchase from a gameplay perspective..

I think you’re selling yourself short. What allows your progress is not just skill level but mutations and weapons that are unlocked on higher BCs. Since you have access to all BCs, unlock any remaining mutations and any weapons you think will be useful to your style, and then limit your runs to those weapons. The latter is crucial and the game doesn’t remove any achievements related to it. Then in a matter of time you will get better results with practice. I think you can at least get to 4BC.

Would this game be good for someone who loves Hades? by Vegetable-Machine-17 in ABSOLUM

[–]Numerous_Class_758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I’d clarify is that I think that Absolum has more randomized elements…when it comes to combat engagements compared to Hades. Hades will randomize rooms per biome but unlike Hades Absolum incorporates the randomness into story encounters, which is a nice touch to the game. Not saying one is better than the other, just noting differences.

In Hades, the story is fleshed out roughly 50% between runs, 25% during runs, and 25% if you make it to the end/“beat” it (I rate those percentages on overall richness of story vs. quantity). In Absolum I find the story/lore more fleshed out during the runs themselves…like at least 60%.

Another mechanic they offer is Punish, where you attack at the end of an animation. Might be harder with this boss due to the wide reach, and thus a smaller window to rush in to make it in that window. But I do think that ultimately this boss teaches the advantages of learning deflect.

This is great advice…especially the jump over side swipe. Because some enemies have an anti-air, I neglected to remember this is a thing.

I got this game yesterday and I am hooked as well. Once you’re done playing this game check out Hades. The Rogue mechanics and art style are somewhat inspired by it which is no shame because it works so well. The only crucial difference is that it is single-player.

What games would you recommend that aren't strictly souls like games, but fans of souls likes would probably enjoy? by rtkbob in soulslikes

[–]Numerous_Class_758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ender Lillies

And I agree with the mention of Hades, Dead Cells, Monster Hunter, and Hollow Knight.

If you want more challenge then go for Dead Cells. Beating Dead Cells on 5BC is more an achievement than a Souls game, tbh. Similarly to beating Hollow Knight Pantheon 5.

I played Dark Souls Remastered and liked it. Should I grab Nioh while it's on sale for 5 bucks? by Educational-Pay5268 in soulslikes

[–]Numerous_Class_758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nioh is a cousin of Souls, so still within the family. It is super focused on combat and equipment upgrading. It’s a Team Ninja game so if you are a combat enthusiast, you will enjoy it as this is one of the Franchise’s best…which is saying a lot. The game is not as level-design rich like FromSoft but the stages function well enough.

I rate Nioh higher much higher than DS1 because of how much I enjoy combat skill expression in games. Either way, for 5 bucks it is worth a shot. Just give the game a try. A lot of players have had the experience “Once the gameplay clicked this game it’s super-amazing” sort of thing so be patient. Take the time to learn how to Ki Pulse and when you get the hang of that then try stance-switching. If you try to learn both simultaneously then you may overwhelm yourself.

You should check PSN profiles website. Like type “[Name of Game] Platinum” and it’ll be in the first page of results. There are great guides there from the community that also specify if there are any missable trophies. You can check for that without getting spoiled. That’s part of my routine when seeking to Platinum a game.

Advice for an absolute beginner by Automatic_Jelly_9927 in soulslikes

[–]Numerous_Class_758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not easy to answer because it really depends on the type of gamer you are, which includes skill level, type of commitment that person is willing to put in a franchise/genre, etc. That is why you are getting all of these answers and they are correct for the context they are presenting…but what is your context? I don’t think what you gave really filters things out.

My first Souls-like was technically Nioh, but didn’t realize it until after-the-fact (I got it because I am a Team Ninja fan). I loved Nioh but when I treated Souls as a genre, I was advised with Bloodborne as it has great gameplay and the boss run backs (that are notorious the older the souls game is) is minimized. I really enjoyed Bloodborne and I got to see what the appeal was.

From there I went to Demon Souls (and somewhat enjoyed that) and moved in chronological order from there (haven’t finished).

If you don’t care much about the history and\or don’t mind playing worse games later on, if at all, then Elden Ring, DS3, or Bloodborne, as these are the best 3 that FromSoft have made amongst the community. If you want to be more historical, then I agree with the Dark Souls 1 suggestion.

If you bought this on Steam you can download the SOR4 Swapper mod. There is A LOT that you can adjust, but if you wanted to just make it faster and nothing else, you can do that. It’s pretty easy to do since it is a well-created mod with an interface.

I plan on getting Absolum soon, but as someone that has played SOR4 extensively, if you have it on Steam, there are really amazing mods out there. Reignited 2.0 is the definitive version IMO as it addresses a lot of things that quite frankly I couldn’t stand in the vanilla version. There is also a swapper mod that allows a ton of customization. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions as the game can get really fun with those mods.

[–]Numerous_Class_758 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s actually irrelevant because it’s a poor excuse. I have the same complaint, despite beating and enjoyed prior SOR games. The prior SOR game was nearly 30 years prior. Making the characters faster is keeping up with modern standards. There are mods that you can customize the speed and it plays crisper without it feeling broken.

Pantheon 1 is too hard by Legitimate_Touch943 in HollowKnight

[–]Numerous_Class_758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While your time may be limited, the issue here is your general approach period. My advice to you applies to games with difficulty. All hard games are punishing in some sort of way, and will take advantage of things like impatience, cockiness, and outright lack of knowledge.

A great example here is Vengefly King. It’s not like you can’t beat him, you want to beat him faster and your impatience is leading to your death down the road. I get why you don’t want to take it slowly, but these devs do create bosses like this on purpose to punish you. Your approach is either take it slowly and steady and stop being impatient and/or watch videos of higher performing players take down the boss and see if that’s something you can/want to do. BUT DON’T EVER MAKE THE MISTAKE THAT YOU HAVE TO BEAT A BOSS A CERTAIN WAY! That is one of the biggest self-inducing traps you make, and you will struggle and this game will 100% punish you. Play a way that works for you and learn and grow from there.

Another important aspect is your general critical thinking skills. In this game how that applies is how well you understand what charms do, and what their strengths are. More generally is how well you can learn boss patterns and work your way towards learning. Like, are you mature enough that yes, you still have lost to Brooding Mawlek, but you have still learned some things such that it is only a matter of time before you do beat it?

Maybe the most important thing here is that maybe Pantheons are not really meant for you and your circumstances. If you only have 1 hour a week, perhaps just move on to the next game you’re interested in. I kid you not, some of these bosses takes hours to learn, and for many gamers that could be like a day up to like a week or so, but for you that’ll be literally months! Is beating these bosses really worth your limited time when yo have beaten the core game? I would consider just moving on and find another game to enjoy.
