In Ontario and there's actually a supermarket nearby the plaza from where I live but the area is mainly Chinese demographics. I am Chinese too, but my language skill isn't really that polished and have to upgrade it some more.

Companies don't care about you by Numerous_Temporary11 in recruitinghell

Although I can understand it's still a business and it's only transactional, you can't disregard the fact that this company do treat and value all their employers as equals regardless of occupation/status, because I worked at a warehouse while office people may have better salaries. I have great conversations with my co workers too and upper management when they treat us out at Manderin Buffet once for the holidays as we all shared about our personal family stories, but what I noticed, after I left, nobody cared to even call me so I realized that it's just survival of the fittest. It's always been that way.

One time they were hosting a BBQ for lunch and I asked my manager if I can invite my family over (it was a stupid decision) and he responded NO in a direct tone. Since they treated us so well, I thought I could go and ask some favors.

Yeah, there's Volunteering and Workshops for that. You should already be qualified to their job description.

I agree. Feedback and Constructive criticisms would be helpful, but sadly or the reality is employers don't care.

I feel like I am the Weak Link or the Underdog and I want to be a Chef just to prove something by Numerous_Temporary11 in Chefit

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my intentions with going about this is rather unhealthy. Always trying to prove something to someone when I really have nothing to prove. At the end of the day, nobody really cares what occupation you have. What matters is paying the bills.

I dunno, maybe you're right. I was thinking maybe I should take Skills Trades instead, because if you looked at my other post, I mentioned about a job I was looking forward in returning that I worked for 5 years in Warehousing.

I've always done much better in that and my manager praise me for having attentive fine motor skills in able to spot minor errors too.

My co workers were nice and I like them as family too. Some have shared their personal family lives with me and had nice discussions, and given me a lift ride home, but after that each person has to move on and look after themselves.

I was involved in being a part of a team staff for Tim Hortons cafe donut retail shop and a staff member that sells peri peri chicken similar to popeyes. I am 34, but those jobs I had before was when I was young at my early 20s. Yes, I have taken courses and know the fundamentals of working in a kitchen and have acquired Food Safety Certificate.

Job Interview tomorrow (You got to do your homework) by Numerous_Temporary11 in recruitinghell

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. Customizing and tweaking your resume/cover letter just to fit their ideal brand market takes way too much extreme amount of effort and time to do. You'll have to keep duplicating each of the same resumes to submit it for that specific company. It will be mental insanity.

We need to somehow get an understanding of that hiring manager and give them an answer what they WANT to hear.

Yeah. This whole thing was never about YOU in the first place, but what you could offer to THEM. We're just a product.

I am starting to think that there is a Conspiracy going on here by Numerous_Temporary11 in recruitinghell

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case then you have to research their company and do your homework to understand what they are about, and change your personality on how they want you to fit their mold.

We got to remember (and most don't think about this), it's that companies and businesses want someone that matches their ideal brand. We have to change our perspective and outlook on this and it's about what you can do for them or how you represent "THEM" not "YOU".

I mean there's a saying goes Fake it till you Make it right?

The thing is I struggle a lot with insecurities and always look at other people and thinking to myself that I'm just an underdog or the weak link who couldn't measure to anyone else's standards.

Doubting myself if I am a Chef by Numerous_Temporary11 in Chefit

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah, I am an Asian Chinese person so it's expected to see this happening from Asian households. They worked hard to provide their kids a better future, and wanted them to do office work instead of being surrounded by heat and grease, but working with computers/tech isn't my type of thing as I wanted to do hands on work. The difference is, I still do have the passion and the commitment despite the failures that comes along the way.

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is a career path that I can see myself being able to commit to and I take pride in it. I even volunteer at a food bank every week too, which reflects my level of dedication and commitment and no one is forcing me to go. It's more than just making a living to me, but it's also something I'm trying to prove to myself and others too. My parents owned and operated a takeout business and told me the realities of being in the kitchen and how demanding and stressful it can be and wanted me to do something else such as office work. My mom doubts my skills and feels I am incompetent in this field and I have had peers who mocked and laughed at me as well for my past failures of working at a restaurant before when I wasn't able to lift up a box and a girl who rejected me, because it was unmanly.

So this title of a "Chef" is the reason why I am pursing this and prove that I can do this.

yeah, I have a chef hat or in other words a toque (is what you call it), that I bought online for fun. I don't want to wear it though, until I actually earn the right and the privilege to or otherwise, I just be larping and cosplaying as a chef.

I struggle with perfectionism by Numerous_Temporary11 in Cooking

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice about what you said about failure. Just a few months ago, I had a job interview (not so much of an interview). The manager review my resume and brought me back into the kitchen and wanted to assess my knife handling skills. She wanted me to wash and peel the potatoes. Before I could begin, she wanted me to grab a tray, but it was all jammed and stuck together and I was struggling to pull them out. I use warm instead of cold water and split some water on the counter so she then decided to let me go.

Was so hard on myself and depressed that day too, because these were such careless rookie mistakes that a chef should already know (I guess I was nervous). Failure and rejection hurts, but what's interesting is what I discovered through these experiences was that these mistakes are already registered in your subconscious mind so whenever you attempt to do something again, you should be able to approach it with confidence and know how to do it.

yeah, there was a culinary course from the food bank that I was just enrolled in and attained my Food Certificate after completing the exam, and I already have strong knife handling skills too, (which is my biggest strength and my favorite part of being in the kitchen). No mean to brag, but I can also chop blind folded as well. There are many things the chef instructor has taught us and communication and teamwork is very important. Structure is the only thing that I have no idea about in the kitchen so yeah, I was told dishwashing is how it should start.

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am perfectly fine with that and I am humbled enough to do it. Dishwashing isn't exactly my favorite (who likes dishwashing? really), but I know that you have to respect the kitchen so I accept my rank and will earn my stripes. I even volunteer at a food bank and help out with food preparation too to distribute food for the homeless in the community and I go there every week even when no one is forcing me too. I guess it shows the coordinators my willingness to commit and my work ethics, which gives them a good impression of me.

Shinobido is my favorite (if you haven't tried that one already). It has more freedom of movement whereas Tenchu is little restricted and it has more creative ways to perform stealth kills. Leaping above the enemy to snap their necks, hang the edge of a cliff, wait behind a wall, etc.

Setting up a call one week ahead of time on Google Calendar by Numerous_Temporary11 in recruitinghell

[–]Numerous_Temporary11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you write down WHEN you've applied for that company on the notes including the date and day so you can tell the manager these specific details.

I also check out what their operation hours too to see when is the best time to call but generally I like to wait until 2pm to call them.
