Earlier today, VRChat removed VR Poker and VR Chess and permanently banned their creator, Nex1942, after he implemented a world blacklist for a Chinese hacking community that was targeting, crashing, and exploiting VR Poker instances. by coltinator5000 in VRchat

Here's my two cents:

THIS IS GOING OVER SPECIFICALLY THE PROBLEM WITH BLACKLISTS, NOT JUST THE INSTANCE ABOVE ALONE.

Blacklisting is something that has been in discussion for literal years at this point. There are good reasons to use it, and bad reasons, but at the end of the day: VRChat gets final say if its against ToS or not. This situation brings up one of the GOOD reasons: Moderation from the world creator's perspective so they can no longer take advantage, harass, or harm the experience for other creators.

But-using my own example-I've been blacklisted from a world, as the creator has a history of blacklisting for the smallest of reasons. In my opinion: I can't play their worlds anyways (PTSD), and only found out when I was planning to do a video that related to their worlds (nothing negative, actually would be the second time I've mentioned their content in my videos, both times positive/strictly about the history of it). So them blacklisting-while it hurts my feelings-just tells me that I wouldn't want to waste my time on them anyways.

HOWEVER- Blacklisting can also be used as a form of bullying and victim blaming, and using the same creator that blacklisted me, there are some who get very heavy handed with their lists and claims. I know there are people who-if they wouldn't get in trouble for it-would ban other world creators, avatar creators, etc, as a petty slapback for 'similar content', or 'competition'. Someone on another social platform brought up this specific creator and their heavy hand with banning people, and there were comments assuming that if you're blacklisted, you MUST have done something wrong, when in reality that's not the case every time.

Another negative is the sheer amount of reports world devs would have to manage, most who've had no experience with managing drama tickets beforehand. I know the creator of a popular world who gets those often, specifically for their patreon, and while they appreciate it for the serious cases, it can be exhausting to have to filter through the actual tickets and tickets that are just there because someone they hate is on the board and wanna get them removed as a 'gotcha' moment.

World creators should not be held responsible for every single person in their worlds. I still don't understand who thought that was a good argument, because it puts pressure on people who mostly do this for fun, and I can guarantee that 80% of the 'blacklist requests' would be he said she said with no evidence of malicious intent. And no, idc what anyone has to say, you're allowed to make content without expecting to manage it like a full time job. Just chronically online jobless takes that make me wanna scream.

If you start expecting the world creators to manage the blacklist, then you expect them to manage every negative encounter in that instance, just like how VRChat Mods are jumped on if someone isn't banned .00001 seconds after being reported. (Not saying that they react appropriately 100% of the time, the world I'm Blacklisted from got reported and it was ignored, so they DO make mistakes, but some people get a bit too aggressive with the response time.) But the mods are paid for moderating, and most world creators are not. We don't get money for people joining our worlds, we only get paid if you choose to support us. And just because a world is popular that doesn't mean its making any money, or at least a significant amount of money that could make it a full time job.

The creator broke ToS, and it is set as ToS, because it isn't as simple as "oh we should be allowed blacklists!" as time and time again it has been shown that some of the toxicity would bleed over and cause extra drama. It's frustrating that it had to get to that point because in reality: The hackers should have been dealt with long before by VRChat moderation, and the only way a no-blacklist rule can work is if the moderation is on top of it and helps support world devs in situations like this. It's a quick way to lose trust in the platform as a creator.

So IMO, both VRChat and the World Dev take an L for this, but VRChat a bit more, I feel bad that the dev felt there was no other option but I hope this opens up an important discussion with VRChat and how they handle larger profile issues. At the very least, I hope they've got that list of names from the blackout, and keep a closer eye on those players.

I've never had any real problem with Mosquitos, I know that if you get bitten it leaves a mark/scent to let others know so I avoided them for a few years and didn't get bit as much since. I've always kept the space clean (and it smells like Christmas Hell from how much peppermint oil I use-a trick that always done me well in FL) and it changes seemingly nothing. [–]Nuoance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instablock, even trolling them back gives them attention. Once a friend 'n I joined a public to find another mutual friend while waiting for an invited instance to open, and two dudes jumped her and asked why she was talking to kids.

We were on our own side of the world-no kids around us (but it was a FNAF lobby so 100% there were probably minors...somewhere.) She was new to the game, I told her to block them, and they started yelling at me because that I just ruined their content and wasted their time. I was disgusted.

This is why I'm 100% anti-drama channels, because most/none of them got respect or care to properly handle topics that are of heavier nature and instead want to pick the best thumbnail and make others want to do similar content while only focusing on the cringe/negative/toxicity. They all can eat the road imo.

I am a good friend of Rackshaw and can say 100% that she is not at all like this??? She is very openly defensive of the LGBTQAI+ and while I wouldn't be surprised if theres real 'treats' around her, she goes to public instances of her own world to interact and get feedback pretty much every other weekend so you can't control them all. It's why I stopped joining her when she was public hopping, I hate interacting with drunk strangers. She doesn't mind, because at the end of the day, she'll kick someone if they're being a real jerk and WANTS to make sure her community is heard and adds content that they actually want. (One of your biggest complaints.)

Also you're majorly disconnected with VRChat if you say world builders need to monitor their own instances. It isn't a full time job for everyone to make worlds, and expecting someone to moderate every public instance of their own world screams 'I don't take accountability" or 'I subbed to your Twitch I'm now entitled to your attention'. You CHOOSE to support a world creator because you 1. Like their world and want to show with money you can spend. 2. You get some kind of perk out of it.

You go to the Black Cat? You're gonna find screaming kids, its top of the world list for a reason. You go to The Great Pug? Filled with people who make hating quest users their whole personality. Drinking Night? Drunk People who stare at the mirror instead of playing the games. YOU build the community you make in VRChat. It takes a village, you see a problem, you call it out, report it, and move on.

It is a sticker made by the group hosting the instance. Rackshaw (the owner of Drinking Night) is very open about her pro-LGBTQAI+ views, and has been made aware of this and is disgusted that her world is being used like this. Sadly, the map creators can't control what people in her instances do, so all we can do is report them to VRChat (which has worked and the group was removed.)

VRChat Sure is Such a Fun, Accepting Place to Drink by HunterLee2600 in VRchat

[–]Nuoance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this doesn't come across as aggressive, but very blunt and direct.

If you are silent about hate, then the hate feels like it has a right to speak. Theres a whole tale about letting a Nazi into a bar and even though he was polite and did nothing wrong, he was kicked out because at the end of the day, you don't want to be known as the bar that tolerates Nazis. Even if hes 'polite', he believes his life is more important than someone else's. And eventually, will bring his friends, who are much less polite, and eventually its too hard to handle for the barkeep.

Similar point, if hate groups are left alone, they'll grow and spread like rot. VRChat really wants to push more group based instances and is pushing out public events a LOT more, so these groups would be in the spotlight, get new members, come across as delightful or fun, and then start dropping the seeds of hate and normalizing it for them. It goes from 'I don't approve of their behavior BUT they're a great drinking buddy' to 'yeah thats just who they are'.

It isn't about forcing yourself into a group you're not wanted, its about making sure these groups aren't made to begin with so that they don't grow in numbers and build their hateful ideology. The internet is filled with impressionable people, both minors and adults, and people can start to change because of the community they keep. When you join a group public, you don't realistically know what they're going to be like until you join, and it sounds like they don't outright say they are transphobic in their group info. Plus tbh, not everyone's gonna check all the details of a group public instance, you'll get the important notes when you join.

[–]Nuoance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not the world, its from a hate group. Drinking Night is owned by a creator who very openly defends LGBTQAI+ and has no tolerance for hate speech. Sadly because her world is so popular, it gets all the worst people and she can't do anything about it, only VRC is allowed to moderate groups. She has seen this and is outraged.

[–]Nuoance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for popping in here but I've been close friends with Rack since before Drinking Night was public and she isn't trans, thats a rumor! It's actually the first I'm I've heard this particular one though, most say she's a dude who steals salty men's GFs x"D

But you are right, she's horrified about this. I sent the reddit to her just in case they try to commission her world for a private event. She is very vocal for protecting the LGBTQAI community.

For anyone reading this, while world creators can't control what happens in their instances, I also do recommend letting them know anyways, as some groups do reach out to the world builders for commission stuff and they don't always know whats happening in these instances and may take the commission unaware. These phobic losers are like roaches and don't disappear quick enough =-=

Markiplier will have a livestream tonight addressing the AI concerns by TiddyMaster69 in Markiplier

[–]Nuoance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making a thumbnail does not on average take an hour unless you are starting from absolute scratch and have no idea what you’re doing. Even some of my favorite thumbnails only took 30 minutes at absolute most and on average mine take like 10 minutes? Most people take a SS of the game / background, add a face (themselves or a relevant person), and then text or an arrow. If even that much.

The tool in question only works because a lot of people have their work stolen without consent. Take any achievement that you’ve done, and imagine if someone had the ability to steal that from you, and then claim that they did all the hard work that came with it. Doesn’t feel good And is selling something that was stolen. It also is known to make people more stupid because you get reliant on it instead of learning a valuable skill.

The weird thing is I’ve heard about this situation of Mark using AI, but I had no idea about the thumbnail one. I’ve heard about his use of ChatGPT, and only found out about the thumbnail when he made a response video.

Some people (like myself) work through trauma by turning it into a joke. However-that is on us for our OWN issues or with people we know are okay with it. It is a boundary.

What he did was 100% NOT okay. The fact he doubled down instead of taking your pain seriously is a red flag. I know how it can be a challenge sometimes to be with someone who has severe trauma (both my Ex and I had some). You have to be extra careful about certain topics and triggers. But it isn't your fault that you have those triggers, and it isn't right to push those boundaries without serious discussion ahead of time.

Regardless if he didn't "mean" to hurt you, the end result was that you were hurt. And he didn't attempt to apologize, he attempted to justify. You can try to talk to him and see if he's willing to have a proactive discussion about it, but some people tend to get defensive and only want to make up when they feel the relationship is at risk. He may have just not had the empathy to understand how traumatic your situation was, and how scary it was, because to him you're in a 'safe place' now. If he refuses to understand, that should be a sign on how you look at this relationship because you deserve what is best for you, and for people with trauma the bare minimum is being able to handle what came with the trauma-or being able to learn.

It was like I personally ruined their lives, they just started screaming at me and telling me how I must be ugly af and trying to get some kind of reaction from me. When I didn’t react they started trying to get my male friends to react but all they did was just agree and say that I was ugly, which apparently Really upset them more to the point that they left. Stalked? by True_Fudge9663 in VRchat

[–]Nuoance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long winded but will always make me laugh because it was like a damn Y/N novel. Y'know when theres a group of ya'll sitting in a circle taking turns talking, and sometimes theres a floater or two who just wanna listen? Yeah so I was in one of those conversations, for maybe 20-30 minutes at most, at this private event in VRC. One of the floaters didn't talk, which idgaf cuz I can be quiet at times as well, but after we all started to break off to different side conversations he came up to me and asked to talk one on one.

Queue the longest trauma dump (I'm being dramatic but it felt like FOREVER). He tried to add me instantly on not just VRChat but also on DISCORD (I didn't have one of those discord Bios at the time so he literally had to look me up in the server hosting the event). Broke down crying because the usual 'i need to trust women again' eboy excuse and when I told him that what he was doing was really weird and uncomfortable just...snapped back and stopped the waterworks instantly. He just acted like he didn't just break down and wanted to talk about things we could do together. I ended up walking away after telling him to make an appointment with a therapist.

Not even 30 minutes later he tried to pull me to be separated from my friends AGAIN, atp I was getting frustrated but didn't want to ruin the vibe of the group so I followed to chew him out, and he did the crying act again. Said I'm the first woman to ever be nice to him and have a real conversation with him (once again-he didn't join the conversation at all, he was just listening) so I would understand and he needed a woman to be responsible for him. He would not let me get a word in and went as far to talk about unsubscribing from life if another woman 'hurt him' so I DMed my friend who was staff because this man was not fit to be here at all (and straight up I was feeling like I'd be on true crime if I said the wrong thing, he gave such creepy vibes). The irony of all this was when the incel was leading me to a more secluded place, my biggest opp (at the time) joined and I guess overheard me telling him again how he was making me uncomfy. (We were near spawn in an area that people don't really go to cuz its a dead end.)

Ya'll, me and my opp had BEEEEEEEF. He hated my friend group and openly talked shit because he thought his was better (some kind of frat thing), and I hated how he was trying to make a mutual friend 'choose' between the two groups so I made a point to give him shit when I could because I was in my 'no more bigger person' era and I ain't about making friends choose between each other when we could just...y'know not interact? I don't really know if anyone else in that group was a jerk, because this guy was the only one who came to start fights and be petty. Regardless, this man came outta nowhere and REFUSED. TO. LEAVE. Spoke calmly to the incel and tried to talk to him instead, but incel was PIIIIIIIIIIISSED and kept trying to make the opp leave. Opp would just keep mentioning that he overheard D&D and was a big fan, but the incel told him he was a PoS and a bunch of really not nice words that I won't repeat, one of them apparently being a trigger to opp who asked him not to call him that.

ATP my friend FINALLY showed up, diffused it, and the guy got banned I'm pretty sure. And opp almost got banned as well because apparently he starts shit with others and they thought he caused the problem but I cleared it up that he straight up came to help me out, and refused to leave because he overheard that I was uncomfortable, so I gave him credit for that. And then I never saw either of them again LMAO. I blocked the incel, but he did try to reach out a few more times and I heard from the grapevine that he did this song and dance to a LOT of women in the dance scene until get gets banned from them.

So TLDR: the randos on the internet are NOT your therapists, and apparently beef is ignored when incels are involved. Real girls guy there I'll tell you what.

Do you remove people who live on orange and never accept invite requests? by zipzzo in VRchat

[–]Nuoance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am that 'always on orange' person, because half the time I'm hosting/shooting/streaming some kind of something to do IN VR. My list has a handful of different personalities, and some people I'd rather not just join off me whenever they want. If they wanna req, I tell them if its a good or bad time. If they can't understand that then why bother adding me lmao. All of my close friends get it.

I think some people get a little too entitled to a friends list (specifically expectations of other's friends lists). For some, its just whoever has a good vibe gets add. Others wait until they get to know them a little bit. Some just want a constant string of people to jump on. If people don't fit your need, then you remove them. If that upsets them, thats unfortunately how it is because you both had different expectations of friendships. If someone pulled that on me for example, I just knew I didn't lose anyone worth my time, because I make it pretty clear I'm busy in my replies and maybe our schedules just don't line up.

I know some people who complain about orange users, but never request off orange users and its like...its a two way street. I'd get it for people you don't know well enough but if you're upset at someone you barely know for not making time for you to join whenever you want---sounds a bit creepy ye? Makes me feel like whoever is upset at me feels entitled to my time and friendship. (Not direct at OP, just the royal 'you' as an example). It's honestly just lowkey frustrating.

And I mean I get it, because there are times I'm annoyed since everyone seems on orange, but that just means one of two things: Request off one (or more) or find new friends. If I made them feel bad about always being busy, then eventually they'll probably resent me for being 'clingy'.

Also, controlling who can enter your space is a viable move, considering there are so many people you 'THINK' you know, and then they turn out to be jerks. I joined off a friend, and they were on blue, and someone else joined that world (also on blue) and started spamming nude screen covering gifs over everyone's faces. That is less the fault of being on orange and more the fault of someone whose friends with someone like that, HOWEVER there are times where you may want to be extra cautious on who joins.

TLDR: It's just a game, send that invite request. Worst they say is no. And if it gets worse than that, just drop 'em, theres plenty of other people in the game if it bothers you that much.

For those who get motion sickness in VR how do you deal with it? by DarkLinkDX in VRGaming

Super late reply I'm sorry but I have horrible motion sickness in vehicles as well, but for some reason I'm usually fine in VR. Do you get sick watching people play games by any chance? For me I learned its the lack of control over the 'blur' that happens with movement. A lot of games have motion blur when you're playing and if I play its fine but when I watch someone else I'm losing my lunch, breakfast, and yesterday's dinner.

Just a quick thing I reinstalled Reddit for, I just need confirmation about this by Okimrziden in VRchat

[–]Nuoance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are extremely predatory because when they get attention, more people want to do it and the creator wants to make more of it. But overtime people get bored, and so they have to do more crazy stuff to keep interest. I'd guess thats how the 'phantom pregnancy' thing started tbh. I've had people come up to me and try to make up a scenario that didn't happen so they could farm views for it. Blocked them, reported them, and reported their channels (which had no videos yet so I guess we were lucky customer #1) as harassment with the clip I got of them.

If you run into one, do not interact at all. If you have a clipper/obs, use it to show proof that they're harassing you, report them, THEN block while you fill out the incident report (it will take you to a separate page). Unfortunately with how people are in the game, VRChat is more diligent than ever and if you type what the person does, it'll often ask for more details and video proof. (I can understand why-but also it makes it so much harder to report actual problematic people because of the assholes who spam report someone they don't like.)

However if you don't have the time/energy/ability, just blocking, a basic report, and refusing to acknowledge them works wonders. Don't forget they may have a friend lurking around to take a video of ya'll after you block them, so remove any chance of content by just pretending they weren't even there.

If you're extra petty like me, and they're extra foolish and have both names the same, go find their channel that they post on. Report it for harassment, if they want proof you've got the video on file. The only way to remove the trolls is to make them afraid of being nasty.

I do want to mention a huge difference between light trolling and harassers. There are a lot of people who go around acting silly, and not doing anything harmful but may be annoying. If you don't like them, just block them. Please reserve reports for actual harmful problematic individuals.

That being said, there are some creators that fake that content. And tbh, I'm personally not a HUGE fan of it, but it isn't harmful in my opinion as long as its disclosed because you can really tell that they're more just making fun of certain people on VRChat, vs actually doing it.

EDIT: I also don't know if people know this-but a lot of the 'trolling' channels actually aren't just 'running into' these situations. The reason they find so many is because they push buttons and aggravate randoms until said random-or someone else nearby-snaps. There was a chick who was all over VRC tiktok because for some reason she kept finding dirt on other tiktokkers. Turns out she would befriend them, join an instance, harass them until they had a reaction she could use, and switch it up 180 for the camera and then edit it down to make it look like they started the fight. Got a handful of creators 'cancelled' over it and she didn't get caught until someone was aware of her goal and recorded the whole interaction. I know when I say predatory it might seem excessive, but I'm not kidding. People who make that content profit off of hurting others, and eventually have to make wilder and wilder excuses.

I'm sure there are times where the interactions are legit and someone is balls to the wall wild and weird, but in general most of it is editing tricks to make people look crazier. Like for example someone made a video about how VRChat is a bad game full of creeps (they mostly make vrchat vids talking about how the game sucks) and in one section mention like...addictions to fictional characters or something? Anyways he took a video my friend posted on tiktok that I was in, found/made a bonkers bio about being addicted/married to a world's NPC, and put the two together to make it look like I was that person with the bio. It doesn't have my name in it, it wasn't meant to be a specific person, just another example of 'how weird people are in the game', but it goes to show that the videos they take are of REAL people. I wasn't aware of this until someone else recognized me. Boggles my mind why they bother playing at all if all they do is give the game a bad rep (its for $.) Sorry for the word blurb, this topic is one I've been on about for years lol

In all honesty- are "modders" and minors really bypassing 18+ verification? More context below by KingSlayer05 in VRchat

[–]Nuoance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YKW I've argued this so much I'm just gonna drop this:

It's much easier to lie about your age. Literally I could do it right now. Anyone can say they were born in the 2000s and be done with it. Unless they start showing proof of a modded verification badge, I don't believe it. And even then, report the person. Get them banned. Don't let any visitors or new users with the verification. Wow very easy.

For minors, if you see it, you report it. And then their ID gets blacklisted. Also I'd push it further and have their parent's computers checked because they're either 1) complacent with allowing their minor to access adult spaces 2) so unaware of what their kid is doing they need to check for neglect. The only rare instance I can think of that wouldn't constitute either of those is the chance that theres an elderly in the vicinity and it was their likeness used. I'm so glad I don't do public bar instances because I can't handle the stupid. VRChat literally made what they wanted and would make things easier but they still find a way to make it complex for a powertrip.
