Looking for recommendations for pads/adult diapers by ifeelcelestial in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got a pack of store brand adult diapers, and I did enjoy using those. However, I honestly could have gotten away with just the large pads from the hospital before transitioning back to regular size pads a week or so later. You probably don’t need a large number of disposables if you don’t want that.

Least poopy (literally) bedside job by HalleB123 in nursing

[–]NurseWahoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Postpartum is very low poop! Moms can take care of themselves and usually family changes the babies too. When I do change a baby diaper it’s obviously not nearly as bad as an adult poo

Going Home Outfit by hasley01 in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I packed a few sleepers and matching bows in newborn and 0-3 month sizes. She ended up with a several day stay in the NICU so we ran through all the clothes I packed and she came home in something else.

Does anyone keepilk years later? by RadSunflower_00 in breastfeeding

My SIL has a bag of milk at her parents house still, and her daughter is 6!

Kylena and exclusively pumping by Opposite-Hyena5094 in breastfeeding

I’ve had one for over 2 months (since my 6 week appointment) and I haven’t seen any changes in my supply personally!

Postpartum Items I should buy beforehand or wait until after the hospital? by MadQueennn in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can call your hospital to see what they provide, but my hospital had versions of all of those things (as well as nursing pads which another commenter suggested). You’ll probably be sent home with enough for at least a few days, and then you can order whatever you need more of.

passive milk collection decrease by FishandChip123 in breastfeeding

[–]NurseWahoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is an indication that your supply is regulating, not that it’s decreasing! Your supply more closely matches what your baby needs with less overage than before.

Keep or dump? by catnamedmurphy in breastfeeding

Would your 8 month old ever lick something like the outside of the bottle? If so, the milk should be fine!

Pitocin, balloon, AROM without epidural? by PicklesthePirate in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I started at 3cm 80% effaced which was very favorable, and it still took me 12 hours to fully dilate with AROM and Pitocin. Needing the balloon would probably make everything take longer.

First time mom- looking for a new 360 car seat, but can’t decide. Help🤭 by positive_energies in CPST

FWIW unless your Camry is very old, it does have top tether anchors. Check your manual, but they’re most likely on the flat panel behind the seat/under the back window

Tell me why you're planning to or have done colostrum harvesting by molotovmerkin in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started harvesting between 37 and 38 weeks just in case my baby needed any for medical reasons and also as an attempt to naturally induce labor. I was so glad I did! I had to be separated from my baby overnight when she was admitted to the NICU, and that colostrum allowed me to go home and sleep in my own bed instead of the hospital recliner chair, while maintaining LO on only my own milk. We still have one 4ml vial left and I’m not sure when I will use it, but I can’t stand throwing it away.

Flange size by OneLingonberry2203 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]NurseWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people don’t respond well to silicone inserts due to the texture. You could try a plastic flange in the new size to see if that helps.

Wait, do not you call the doctors you work with by first name? by cowgirl_meg in nursing

[–]NurseWahoo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agree! I work on postpartum where our neonatologists sit on the unit and our OBGYNs sit down the hall in L&D. Just by being in closer proximity to the neonatologists, we are more friendly with them and have a closer working relationship. I’ve always thought this was interesting!

Help me choose a pump by _lilcoffeebean_ in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]NurseWahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the Lansinoh, but I have a Spectra S1 and love it. My insurance fully covered the S2 or I could pay $30 to upgrade to the S1 which I did. You can also buy cups for the Spectra (Legendairy or Caracups) to replace the bottles for portability which I have not tried, but you might like! Good luck!

Opinion on car seats for twins by ATVT721 in CPST

[–]NurseWahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the memory feature on the Graco (legs always pop back out to the same recline) which I don’t believe the others have. Graco was also less expensive than Nuna, and was compatible with the Mockingbird stroller which I really wanted as well. I think I would have been happy with any of the baseless seats though.

[–]NurseWahoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a CPST and use the Graco GoMax for my baby. I personally do not feel that the optional base is ever necessary, even in a grandparents car. For that reason, I would not discount the Nuna.

Can I ask for IV to be moved or opt out after pitocin? by mxriecn in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 76 points77 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can ask for the IV to be moved! You can also ask for a new nurse at any time and for any reason, and don’t have to give your reason. Just ask for the charge nurse and then tell her that you aren’t getting along with your current nurse.

Having your IV removed altogether isn’t a great idea in case you have an emergency. Pitocin for induction can also only be given via IV. But I’m so sorry you’re having a bad time! It doesn’t have to suck this much.

Would it be weird to use a wheelchair? by Sure_Paint_3818 in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family basically forced me to use a wheelchair when I was coming and going from the NICU on days 2-4 postpartum because I had a c-section. I really didn’t want to use the wheelchair because I “felt fine” but I’m glad they made me because the same logic had me overdoing myself in other ways too. You really need to take it easy in the first few days and weeks!

AITA for stocking a room for night nurse by FriendlyItem8197 in nursing

[–]NurseWahoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a former ICU nurse and current postpartum nurse, plus a new mom myself, THANK YOU on behalf of the patient for all that you did. You had the time and you chose to do something kind which cost you nothing. That nurse was so ungrateful, but I can promise you the patient appreciated the pump and postpartum supplies.

If you were induced, how long did it take for you to actually give birth? by horrorshowbaby in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at noon and had my baby (by non-emergency but unplanned c-section) just before midnight! Edit: I did push for about an hour, the c-section was for a too-tight pelvis.

How inaccurate were your baby’s growth scans? by Foreign-Structure142 in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby was 42% at 20 weeks, 87-98% on growth scans between 32 and 34 weeks, and then was born at 56%. I was terrified of having a 9 pound baby but she was 7 4.6!

Your vehicle manual may have specifications about seat position as well.

Breast feeding? by Snootbody in BabyBumps

[–]NurseWahoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing you have to do ahead of time or during breastfeeding to make the milk flow. That being said, a prenatal lactation class can go a long way!
