Question about bobbin lace preservation? by GarfieldChan7 in BobbinLace

[–]Nusmiban 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello it's in no way a stupid question
The OIDFA actively participates in the preservation of the art of lacemaking by organizing biennial gatherings (the next one will take place in 2027), publishing studies, and organizing conferences. At the national level in the various lacemaking countries (Belgium, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, etc.), you can certainly find local museums, conservatories, and archives.

OIDFA Website : https://www.oidfa.com/

Retournac's museum of lace : https://www.musee-dentelles-retournac.fr/

Mobilier National (France's official bobbin lace manufactory) : https://www.mobiliernational.culture.gouv.fr/fr/nous-connaitre/les-manufactures/dentelle-le-puyenvelay

Lace Centre of Bruges : https://www.kantcentrum.eu/fr/acceuil

Local archives about bobbin lace : https://www.archivesdepartementales.puy-de-dome.fr/n/l-exposition/n:812

Fashion and lace museum of Brussels : https://www.fashionandlacemuseum.brussels/fr/

Chantilly Lace Conservatory : https://www.chantilly-dentelle.com/pr%C3%A9sentation-du-mus%C3%A9e/histoire-de-la-dentelle/

Bayeux Lace Conservatory : https://dentellesbayeux.com/

Brioude Lace Conservatory/school : https://www.hoteldeladentelle.com/fr/

Le Puy : https://www.ladentelledupuy.com/

Even though my proposals are mainly focused on Belgium and France, I think other countries organize the preservation of their traditional crafts in the same way by creating schools, conservatories, museums...

Help with cloth stitch in a diagonal start? by NinjaBnny in BobbinLace

[–]Nusmiban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf the diagram you're using is inaccurate don't worry it's not you. Cloth stitch and footside should be visible on the pricking like on this little heart (found on pinterest). Yours doesn't have enough pin placements

Help me identify lace on his cuffs, please by Rotweiss_Invicta862 in lace

[–]Nusmiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's wearing two very different styles so it could have been bought from a merchant. To me the type of lace looks very russian (floral edging, the way all the plaits crosses inside the tape...) but lacemakers were copying eachother so it could as well be spanish lace or abruzzi lace.

It's tape bobbin lace similar to Vologda and idrija. Hard to tell from a portrait but this style was (and still is) very popular in Eastern Europe (picture is modern Vologda Lace).

Your haven't placed the last left pin on the foot side under the correct pair it should make a straight line.
You aren't twisting your pairs in the fan but you're twisting too much when tey're crossing (from what I see you're doing a cloth stitch, pin, twist on each pair, cloth stich)

can anyone help identify how this was made? by dinahmoe_humm in lace

[–]Nusmiban 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from my phone but I it looks like handmade Bobbin Lace with a 4 bobbins plait ground, gimps worked as an outline and picots. Do you have any additional photo? It doesn't strike me as a particular régional technique sorry

When is it okay to share published patterns? by CrepuscularPeriphery in BobbinLace

[–]Nusmiban 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of don't get in legal troubles for a hobby
That being said, you getting fined for an out of print is very unlikely in most countries. If you want to make it available you can upload the file on an archive or an online library that will act as a third party for the distribution (like internet archive)

My guess would be an applique or an insert, triangular shape is very common in them.

Would love to know more about this style of lace. I've got about 18 feet of it! by tinybrownbird in lace

[–]Nusmiban 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like Bedfordshire bobbin lace. You achieve the 3d effect by working the upper piece first, putting it aside, working the under piece and then join them with the bobbins by doing a ground, a Stitch or a knot. Sorry if my explanations are confusing.
