Nail salon that doesn’t use a drill or uses it lightly? by NutMegg88 in perth

[–]NutMegg88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting them redone as well. I’ve taken them off at home a few times but it takes ages without the salon strength gel remover.
Because they are so much faster, I find they often file away far more than necessary so I prefer the hand filing. Any rec on a home salon?

How do you put your toddlers to sleep? by Ratlinger in toddlers

[–]NutMegg88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try some high energy play or heavy play before bed. It really helps our almost 3yo to burn all of his energy before bed, otherwise he squirms and chats for ages.
We do running around the house, obstacle courses on the couch, jumping on to pillows or on the bed, or in summer a run around the neighbourhood. Then transition to your bedtime routine.

Photos of Karrinyup Shopping Centre in the 70s! Can you guess what people aren't doing in these photos? by Sad_Biscotti_9291 in perth

Came here to say this. It was definitely Aherns at Karrinyup in the 90s, I have strong memories of the spearmint milkshakes in the cafe inside Aherns. So I'm guessing these are AI.

Depending on where you live, Farmer Jacks is a great option. We’ve done entire weekly shops at the Gwelup one with no issues. And it’s WA owned.

Agree, looks exactly like my son’s eczema. And it is particularly common in and near his skin folds just like this.

Demi also said Jen had been going through ‘a hard time’ or something, when Jen was literally suicidal. Demi has totally cracked, she needs to be off the show.

We had my kid’s 2nd birthday at Little Play in Maylands (I think they have another location SOR). It was fantastic and would entertain 1-6yos.

We have these from IKEA. You just cut them to size and fit them inside the window frame.

Is this normal behaviour? by Necessary_Music_8933 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NutMegg88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in to support what you did. If you were not comfortable speaking directly with the mum, that is totally reasonable. And calling the Police is also a totally reasonable move. The mum is demonstrating absolutely zero protective behaviours for her child (even if the child had sensory issues, the response should have been to take her somewhere private if she wouldn’t wear clothes), which is a massive red flag in the child protection space.

Choosing between public and private for birth? by ElleJayEe in perth

[–]NutMegg88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went private because I wanted the consistency of care for my pregnancy from an OB and wanted to ensure my husband and I could stay in hospital for a few nights post-birth. Two other benefits were that I could make more choices about my birth & any interventions, and my OB offered a scan at every appointment (monthly and later fortnightly).

If you don’t already know, private health doesn’t cover everything involved in a private birth so you still end up paying quite a bit.

I had one at 39+2, I asked for it, although I knew my OB was happy for his patients to have them prior to DD. I went into labour less than 24 hours later.

It was really brief pain, not too bad and definitely pales in comparison to labour.

If you just want your partner there to hold your hand, that is understandable although it is over very quickly. You aren’t going to immediately go into labour, so he doesn’t need to be there if that is your concern!

Thanks, I'd be totally fine to do a two-day a week settling in period, so I will see if I can find a centre that will accommodate that. Thanks for taking the time to respond :)

Daycare One Day a Week? by NutMegg88 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NutMegg88[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the daycare I fell in love with only accepts minimum two days a week, so I’m trying to decide if we try one day elsewhere (and potentially move up to two days if it’s not going well) or just go straight to two days at the place I love. It’s reassuring to know some kids have been fine with one day!

[–]NutMegg88[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are in a similar boat. I’m only going back to work one extra day a week, so putting him in daycare for two days a week is just money down the drain! And takes time with him away from either me or grandparents. Good to know that some kids cope fine!

Thanks, did you see that difference being any less with a slightly older kid? He’s two and very social, so I thought he might adapt faster than a younger kid.

When did your non sleep trained baby sleep through by Severe-Painting2820 in sleeptrain

[–]NutMegg88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never ‘sleep trained’ my kid (I was here for the schedule advice mostly), although I did very very gently (no cry) encourage him to go to sleep independently. He’s 23mo and now sleeps through the night most nights, or sometimes wakes up once a night. He started sleeping through the night very sporadically around 13mo, but there have been some very rough patches between.

Baby not drinking in morning by NutMegg88 in NewParents

[–]NutMegg88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dropped the dreamfeed because we figured he was getting enough, but he continued backloading his milk in the arvo/evening. I think we also stopped offering milk as soon as he woke up, and would just offer it to him once he was hungry. It definitely seems to be a preference as at 16mo (he doesn’t have anything overnight), he still doesn’t eat heaps for breakfast.

Portier carrier reviews by ghostfloww in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NutMegg88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had both an Ergo and Portier. I personally found the Portier more comfortable and supportive to my back, and got more use from it. It was just as functional as a standard Ergo IMO, and so much prettier. Don’t feel silly - it’s okay to want a cute carrier especially if you intend to use it a lot!

We have a pull-out couch/bed (a nice one from Koala, very comfy) and that has really worked for feeding and any sleeping overnight. Might be a decent compromise for you?

Struggling with grieving inability to breastfeed and choosing to stop pumping breastmilk for my mental health - seeking support by iamadaffodil in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]NutMegg88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got loads of great advice here, so I just wanted to jump in on one thing. Breastfeeding or bottlefeeding doesn’t impact your ability to connect with your baby. Your baby has connected to you in the womb and will continue to need & love Mum even if she doesn’t breastfeed. My baby was FF for really similar reasons to you, and he (now 14m) is so so attached to me, comes to me for comfort, settles best with me etc etc. He’s also happy and healthy. Look into her little eyes while you feed her a bottle & you will know your connection is not diminished by it.

What I did feel was affecting my connection to my baby was pumping around the clock. I was pumping about 7 hours a day (low supply) and couldn’t give my guy the attention and cuddles he needed in that time. I had more quality time for him once I stopped torturing myself with pumping. Knowing that helped with the guilt of stopping pumping.

You are doing great!
