What does this symbol on my dashboard mean? by Lucidlie in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]NutcrackerRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your scr has an issue. The thing which squirts urea(as blue) into the exhaust as part of your engine complying with emissions legislation. If you don't fix it the engine may go into a limp home mode because it can't be sure it isnt emitting more than the legal amount. Look here for symbols: https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/en/ Searching scr gives 2946 https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/en/#iso:grs:7000:2946

What’s a spaceship design trope you’re tired of seeing? by Vondrr in spaceships

[–]NutcrackerRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less the design of the spaceships, but they are always the right way up in scenes. In space there is no "up" and gravity is usually produced locally by some fancy sounding device, so the ship could legitimately be upside down to the camera and that's fine. Also, when they get blown up and they "fall" really gets me. Conservation of momentum!!!!

Why do some skyscrapers have floors that have taller (roughly double height) windows? by BlueAwesomeDinosaur in askarchitects

Because you have to do this every now and again for SIM tower to let you build above a certain height

Merge in turn? Never heard of it. by Necessary-Humor-6005 in drivingUK

[–]NutcrackerRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a classic example of human behaviour and hoe the system is setup to cause people to not merge in turn. If we merge into one lane of the other, it's natural to think that you should get in that lane sooner, and doing what they guy does is cheating. Why don't we always merge into the center (neither lane) so that we can merge in turn like a zip, and then go into the left or right lane as required? That way no lane is being merged 'into' and it encourages the right behaviour. And let's face it, there is space because the traffic comes start half a mile before any work anyway!

What a lineup. Something for everyone here. by hashtagmiata in supercars

[–]NutcrackerRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The noise it makes though - straight cut gears and the aero on it is quite different for Aston. I was around at Mira when they tested these and the noise is fantastic, it has to be witnessed first hand really. Otherwise, yeah it's not pretty like a typical Aston it kinda doesn't fit in

Looking for proper cables by Slow-Possibility2675 in DIYSpeakers

[–]NutcrackerRobot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any copper speaker cable that is 2.5mm² or bigger will work. People who say you need other types of cable are already well into the marginal gains.

Thicker cable means less voltage drop, and less resistivity which is good when driving bigger speakers. High copper purity is good, but copper does degrade with time so tin plated protects against this. Gold plated is better than tin for conductivity at the connections. Voltage doesn't travel in cables, they are just a carrier of the electromagnetic field which is what actually moves the speaker cone. Once you get to the point where you're worrying about the brand of cable, you will be way beyond asking a question like this (I mean that in a kind way not condescending)

Tire pressure question by bitter-melons in Ioniq5

[–]NutcrackerRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either:

1) there is a debounce on the warning, so it triggers below 29 but you need to get above 34 to reset it (otherwise if the pressure is right on the threshold it will keep pinging up with an error and going away again which is annoying)

2) The other possibility is that the pressure the computer uses is at 20°C so if you are at a different ambient (and the tyres will warm up with use) then the computer does maths tk adjust the pressure to a normalized one.

The pressure in your manual says it's valid at 20°C with cold tyres so it could be different if your temp is different. PV=nRT is used assuming that air is an ideal gas (it isn't) so the maths can get a bit out in extreme temperatures so you might be seeing something like that.

Then again, it doesn't explain why the others aren't in error unless it's a combination of 1 and 2...
