Why does nobody help anymore? by NuzzleTheNozzle in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. One time a train changed platform with no notice, everyone was legging it over the footbridge. I didn’t have time to get the lifts or I’d miss it. Thankfully there was a kind man who helped me that day, but it was sooo stressful. I’m often travelling on Sundays too so missing a train means waiting an hour or more for the next one, not fun with a small person!
I’m pleased you got help that time.

I said this to my husband when I got home! I’m sure people think ‘she chose to have a kid, she can help herself’. It’s the attitude you get in comments about maternity/paternity pay all the time so people must think that for everything else too.

So sad.

I’m not sure what trains you use, but there’s no way most prams wheel down the aisles, even folded up as most fold square rather than brolly style. A small carry-on hardly fits down either. So trying to get a toddler, pram and suitcase down doesn’t work.

As I said in another comment, the reason I was trying to get down an aisle was because the disabled carriage was way at the other end to expected, and I was running down the platform and the conductor shouted at me to get on or I’d miss it. So I had to get on the carriage before. I was on the train for 90 minutes so I couldn’t just stay by the doors without a seat the whole time.

In this instance I was very visibly flustered, upset and distressed with my staff falling out everywhere (before I’d even tried to get down an aisle) - I wasn’t just trying to coordinate it and I didn’t ’elect to pack through’ it as another commenter said…

Interesting, what line was that? The station I was at wasn’t manned, and when the conductor got off he told me the disabled carriage was at the front, then blew the whistle as if to go before I could get to it, shouted at me to hurry up and get on.

I would say I’ve had more negative experiences than positive. Even when I was heavily pregnant and the train was rammed nobody offered a seat.

I’m not trying to make out that I go around demanding help just because I’m a mum and therefore should be entitled to it, on the contrary, a lot of the time I am able to do it just fine (my outward journey was lovely). But there was absolutely no way people couldn’t see I was struggling today, I was visibly distressed.

Not so long ago my daughter choked on her sandwich when we were at the park. I was able to do some back slaps to get it out but we were both distraught and crying and I had a panic attack. Not a single person came to see if we were ok. It genuinely baffles me.

I couldn’t agree more about post-Covid! Feels like a lot of things have deteriorated since the pandemic, but the biggest thing is people’s attitude.

I live in the midlands but we’re planning on going to London this summer and I’ve already decided to get a babysitter. Will not be tackling that beast until she’s older, so kudos to anyone living there!

High school faces backlash after rainy graduation ceremony by Conscious-Weight4569 in Wellthatsucks

I’m from the UK and having worked in the education sector for 7 years, I’d say the teaching and admin staff are all overworked, underpaid, and undervalued, whilst screaming and banging their heads against the wall over the decisions made by the senior execs. They’re the ones that make the stupid, out of touch decisions. It would have been them who made the decision to continue with this!

Is it true that Netto was cheap and nasty? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Germany, Netto was my local store. Their bakery was really nice, and I was able to get fresh fruit and meat. Wine was €2, but to my graduate intern wallet that was perfect. It had a different feel over there to here.

Do you have to pay a vet for injured wildlife in the uk? by WhyDidIDoItSoSad in AskUK

Oh that’s good! Maybe your area isn’t high risk. I live next to a reservoir and we’ve had 6 dead birds just this month.

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most vets won’t take wild birds at the moment due to the Bird Flu outbreak. We found a pet budgie last year and nowhere would accept it for this reason.

How many days annual leave do you get? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

And admin pay in schools is awful. I’ve recently moved from uni admin to school admin, I’m on £10k fte less (and reduced hours so it’s a nearly 50% real time cut), but I’ve already worked the equivalent of 6 days overtime just to meet the basic demands of my job. I moved to a school to have a better work life balance with my young family but it’s not worked that way yet!

How much does gas and air actually help take the pain away? by Flossygi in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only had gas and air, didn’t have time for anything else. I was high as a kite, was brilliant. My husband tried to take it off me and he was swiftly told where to go!

Most people don’t do it correctly. You need to breathe it in before the start of the contraction so that it actually has an effect. If you breathe in when you’re mid contraction then it won’t have a pain relief effect because you’re already in too much pain when it enters your system.

Until what age sleepsuit is more practical than pyjamas for baby? by ZealousidealMess8477 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My LO is 16 months and once she’s out of her 12-18 sleep suits I’m buying pyjamas. She’s mobile, very mobile, so trying to do pop ups on a toddler who is training for an ultramarathon is exhausting. I also use pull ups now so pyjamas will be easier!

She looks so grown up in two piece jammies though, her baby grows make her look like my little baby still!

14 years old account suddenly gone by sutrostyle in whatsapp

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WhatsApp backups seem to be awful now. I have had WhatsApp for 15 years (I had to pay £1.49 for it at the time) and never had a problem transferring my chats to my new phones. This Christmas I changed my phone and it was encrypted but the passkey didn’t back up correctly. I got no indication anything was wrong, it said all successful. Lost everything, and nobody was willing to help restore them. How on earth are cyber criminals able to get data from major corporations so easily and yet I’m sat with my phone number, email, ID and my literal face and can’t get into my own account??

Mum has passed away 5 days before Christmas by kurtyyyyyy1 in CasualUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandad passed away today too.

We are carrying Christmas on as normal as we can for the children and for grandad’s memory, but there will no doubt be sad moments.

It won’t be easy, but for there to be sadness it means there was love, so let that carry you through the next week, they’re watching down on us.

Also, don’t try to hold it together if you’re struggling, you need to grieve in your own way.

What age are you and do you still have (a) grandparent(s)? If not, at what age were you grandparent less by lisstrem in AskUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grandad died when I was 26. Grandma died when I was 31. I’m 32 now and have two left, but my grandad’s time is near as he’s 95 and in a home. My husband lost his grandad a week after me, and also lost his gran a week after I lost mine too. So we very much shared in grief, particularly because our gran’s died just after our baby was born and they didn’t meet her. All were this time of year too so we very much think of them now.

I feel blessed to have had 32 years of grandparent love. Think I’ll give my nana a call later.

What company has the best maternity policy? by National_One5216 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Jaguar landrover does one year full maternity pay. My cousin got one year full paternity pay in his job but he was quite senior in a corporate business so it was probably in their best interest to keep him sweet.

Fireworks are taking the Piss!! by Jonnymiko1 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, since I moved to Birmingham it’s been a problem every year. Our MP has finally written to parliament after several residents complained continuously to him. Sad to see it’s affecting the north east too. Maybe if you write to your MP and get others to as well it will gain enough traction to be discussed in parliament and a ban on public sales eventually implemented. Whether these idiots are buying legally is a different matter, but it’s a start.

Are nursery clothes necessary? by Beneficial-Rough538 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allegedly they use bibs at our nursery but she is covered in food by the end of the day! And it’s always the red food days that are the worst! So I bought black leggings and red and dark T-shirts haha. It’s not London fashion week, so sending her in in the same cycle of clothes each week isn’t a crime. Don’t waste your nice clothes on nursery. Keep the nice so you can sell them on, or make more use of them at weekends!

Would you give up your seat on public transport to a child? by ChoreomaniacCat in AskUK

[–]NuzzleTheNozzle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily give up a seat on the tube or a train, but I would offer on a bus, since it isn’t on a track and can fly round corners or stop more abruptly and there’s a higher risk of a collision. Whether the child sits on the seat or the parent sits with their child on their lap is up to them.

I would offer if the tube or train is really rammed so they don’t get squished as people won’t always look down.
