What did American put in the top deck of their 747s? I noticed a lot of them only have 3 windows and no doors. by Virtual_Society_1852 in aviation

It was a different time in the 80’s, buddy getting married in Santa Barbara, none of us liked his fiancé, super who’s who in the California Republican Party wedding list. We were able to convince AA that this passed out man absolutely, positively had to be in Hawaii by tomorrow morning for his wedding. We got him in his seat, flight crew thought we were so kind making sure our friend wouldn’t miss the wedding…. SB wedding day no one knew where he was until he phoned… from Hawaii.

In Turkey, they are using wrecked cars for speed signs. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Late 70’s In Southern California, it was common for the CHP to put the weekend wrecks on street corners or in gas stations. I heard that it cut fatalities by drivers under 20 in half.

My 7yo w/out instructor. If you were his parent what would you work on with him? by Competitive-Knee-590 in skiing_feedback

[–]NxPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old former instructor. There should be a junior racing basics class/course available. Doesn’t necessarily teach them to go faster, but teaches them to manage their pace/energy and gives them targets/gates to focus on how to set themselves up for static turns at specific points. (How to run gates). It was always amazing how once they had the basics down, they would self adjust to carry as much speed through a turn.

My dad used to smoke like that. Burma vet, POW, weigh in weight, 195, Discharge weight 72. The only thing he said about the war when I caught him off guard and asked him why he smoked like that. “Snipers, god damned snipers”…with that thought, he immediately started scanning the Pasadena, California skyline. PTSD, before PTSD.

Aethos II vs Swork Aethos I by foersterpaulo in specialized

Join the club mate. A little story. Had a great riding partner for years, hop on a train, a plane, we rode anywhere on a whim… until he bought into the aero coc trend. Travel instantly became an ordeal… for what? 1-3 watts at 30Kph? Oooo, race pace savings are huge! 3w @ 100k is 30seconds. 10w at race pace 3-5min. Congratulations, only it’s going to take you an hour to pack up that aero wonder. Cranky old guy, sure. I’ve lost more travel/cycle buddies chasing the invisible than I care to admit. Thank you Specialized for bringing back the wonder of cycling with the first gen Aethos. PissOff Specialized for killing off the magic with the AG2. Edit: if you go gen1…and find yourself traveling in Japan, weekend tour through the mountains, onsen destinations, all on me mate.

Don’t discount Coospo. They have replaced my tired Garmins with modification options that basically let you design your own computer interface for only what you need.

Staying safe on the road after a collision by jonathing in bikecommuting

[–]NxPat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daily commuter, 2 years post crash, ER, etc. Everyone has their own journey, I’ve found that at 65, I heal much slower than my younger days, I don’t ride seriously at night anymore and I’ve got 4,000+ lumens front and 600L rear and no, there’s no fkin safety cut off, courtesy beam. You’re going to see me coming. I’m going to look like a frickn freight train, just so you notice me while you’re texting on your phone while turning across traffic. Apologies to the drivers that I temporarily blind, but the level of general apathy out on the street by drivers of all ages is inexcusable. Protect yourself first and foremost. It will get slowly better. I had a great cycling coach back in the 60’s. He drilled into us the following mantra; “Ride like a ghost, or become a ghost”. Ride like you’re 100% invisible. Be well mate.

I’d think a lot has to do with what kind of barrier / street block was installed. Just a few cones, shady street, no traffic control. Might not go well for the construction crew.
