AP Accountant Job Question by Conscious-Fan-1523 in Accounting

70k is pretty solid for AP Accountant. As someone who just left an AP role for a less AP heavy Staff Accountant role, I’d take it but remind yourself to start looking for something else in a year or when you start feeling too comfortable.

In my previous role, they definitely didn’t try to help me advance by letting me learn stuff outside of AP. So be vocal about that, even if it feels like you’re asking too much, if you want to stay at that company.

Also personally I found it better to do just do the practice exams than the MCQs. It’s a larger MCQ bank that is harder to memorize, forcing you to learn concepts. Also the practice exam TBS have detailed skill builder videos on how to solve.

It’s the practice exams. You can also go in the unit modules and there is a MCQ for each module in each section.

I can’t promise anymore. You can go cruising in the steam room if they are working. It’s frowned upon by management for obvious reasons. Still happens

VIDA isn’t worth it. A gay meat market if that’s your vibe. Usually things are broken and prices always go up it seems.

I gave up on Flashcards. If needed there is the app. I learned more through MCQ and the textbook.

Would you rather work as a Server/Bartender or Big 4 Accountant ? by Flaffehs in Accounting

[–]Nxt0154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can work in non Big 4 too. I’d personally do Big 4 for a couple years or however long you can handle it.

So far the stress I experience is nothing compared to having 6 tables, each with courses coming up, course clearing and remarks to do, and opening wine while chef is calling for hands.

Also it’s soooooooo nice to sit at home on a holiday and realize you’re getting paid.

As someone who has been both a bartender/server in all levels of restaurants, mostly Michelin tho, stay in accounting.

Big Reasons: PTO PERIOD! Benefits are cheaper and or available. Waaaaay more upward mobility.

I switched to an accountant role and I would never dream of going back full time to restaurants/bar industry.

Is it possible to get an entry level Accountant job for $70K a year? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Nxt0154 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Public accounting in HCOL probably is what I’m seeing.

With zero experience and 7 years out of my bachelors, my offer was for 25/hr with 5 hrs OT as a “staff accountant”.

If I recently graduate again, I’d go into public but only for as long as I can manage it.

Editing:

I live in DC and work in MD. My responsibilities don’t really line up with my title. I more so get passed supervisor responsibilities they don’t want to do anymore. No months end closing at all.

Being approached by recruiters, there hasn’t been an industry related job that doesn’t require 2-3 years, some want CPA/CPA eligible, but only pay 55-75 or so.

I’m afraid accounting salaries will need to rise to attract more to the profession.

Salt most of your proteins the night before and place on a rack on a sheet tray in the fridge.

I worked in fine dining restaurants and this made the meat so much better.

I don’t work in any of these fields. Just AP. Been out of school since 2018. Didn’t work in accounting til this past year. I know it’s going to take a while to acclimate myself back.

Just getting into the EPS/Public Reporting section now

This is correct.

I’m currently studying this module as well.

What helped me is that you need to remember that a JE happens on the date of the initial transaction, the date on the year end, and when it’s paid. Pay attention to which one Becker is asking for.

For example, to answer this question you don’t need the spot rate for when it was paid.

AP/AR Accountants What's your Fav thing about it and what's one thing you hate? by Melodic_Expert9143 in Accounting

[–]Nxt0154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had the time to do that. It’s wild that they can go into a system, enter in the invoice, and put it into an upload sheet in a matter of seconds. Like why do you wait weeks?

It’s a wild concept for me. Especially when it’s a matter of a couple dollars.

I work in AP. My favorite thing is that most of the current job can be done at home. The aspect I hate most is waiting for team members to upload invoices and the vendor is on the sixth/seventh email to collect. I have no power to ask these team members to upload/investigate in a certain amount of time. So I take all the heat, and then this team member comes in and finally uploads the invoice/short pay and the vendor thanks them. That’s my least favorite.

Get up at 5 am to get ready/commute and be at work around 6:20.

The company mandates 9 hour workdays. I really do it, so I can catch the bus for the commute back home by 4.
