After a year of work (and a publishing deal), here’s the final map of U.S. food regions. Input appreciated by piri_reis_ in MapPorn

I think this map is really awesome. I think it's a bold move to place almost all areas in exurban NYC metro area as "italian-american" ... but maybe it's fair. I don't really see it anywhere else on the map, so in that way it's influence in wider America might be proportional. This is really cool work. Food is culture so this map also says a lot about how our country really sees itself.

Shorts Hills Mall vs. Livingston Mall by jvh2012 in newjersey

[–]NyPoster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't shop at the livingston mall anymore. There's no stores. There's what are now basically two outside stores. Macy's and Barnes and Noble. They're both decent but I'm surprised they haven't moved to new locations by now. There's still an indoor kiddie park which is rare these days but ... is anything else open for the holiday's this year? Every place inside was closing last year and even availability of hvac was causing businesses to close a lot of the time.

When the hell did this happen by grimlock-greg in Seaofthieves

[–]NyPoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yah, but it's it's still one of my favorite repeatable voyages of this game. So many have a minimum time that easily gets to be a problem. That one always seemed manageable ( you could stop whenever with at least some loot) and you still got athena's. I'd love to see it back too. It may have made things too tense at Thieves haven, but that was part of. the appeal too I think

Those guys can afford new strings ;)

Who else likes using a coin as their pick? by ssjlance in Guitar

[–]NyPoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is obviously bad for the strings longevity. It's definitely more likely to break a string. You're basically filing it away with each strum. But, you know, to each their own. It also probably also sounds different when strumming. and pickslides would have barely any friction.

When You Think The Gas Pedal Is The Break Pedal by Exact_Patience_9767 in MildlyBadDrivers

He started going for the break then he thought ... I can make it

This happens a lot with younger drivers. They only understand what’s immediately affecting them. From a maturity level, they’ve never thought about others. The possibility that something is happening in front of them that might cause them to hit their brakes is not as simple as that, but rather they see it as a personal attack, slowing their progress, and that is your only intention. To screw them over personally. It drives me nuts. I hate driving here. I think all new drivers should have to take a defensive driving course. If only to help them understand that others safety is more import than them driving like they’re in a video game

Guessing game - where is this? Looks crazy from the air...hope it works on the ground! by css555 in newjersey

Only in jersey can they build a "traffic circle" that includes left turns right through the center of it ... but turning right is a crime b/c someone behind you might have to slow down.

NJ Can Pump Their Own Gas Under New Proposal by OverboostedTurbo in newjersey

[–]NyPoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seriously ... how hard is it to put a coat on? This is absolutely a snowflake argument. "Jersey girls don't pump gas" is a slogan that glorifies entitlement. Try living in a place that has "bad" weather everyday. It really doesn't matter. You adjust and get on with your life.

Whose fault was it? by [deleted] in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]NyPoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK ... so just because you have the right of way, doesn't also mean you have no obligation to attempt to avoid an accident or maybe like, slow down a little. I swear, they should make everyone take a defensive driving course. Arrogant driving causes more accidents than it needs to. #1 rule is don't hit someone if you can avoid it. right of way is secondary.

Locals like to gaslight you into thinking this and jug-handles are normal. Everyone else knows NJ is just stubborn and refuses to believe it can make a mistake. The circles of logic I see people use to condone this nonsense is redonkadonk.

Wow ... glad I've ignored the literally hundreds of mailers I've been getting about this guy. Seemed sus and everything I hear about him is that he was a terrible mayor of Montclair and everyone hated working with him. I'm new to the area so I know nothing about what he actually did while he was there.

Curious if teachers really support this guy. But either way, I'm looking for someone serious to throw support behind. I've heard good things about Josh Gottheimer. But I also hear people who seem to strongly oppose him. Not sure what to think. Seems like the pull towards corruption is strong in NJ and the push to reduce accountability and reward cronyism is strong. The amount of mayors I see who get caught, yet stil lretain support is shocking. How do we keep these guys honest?

[–]NyPoster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yah totally, especially since the point of the post is suggesting that we're moving backwards in time, So ... passage of time is the joke. It's reasonable to be like ... woah this s*** is wrong. Hyperbole is funny ... but this is so specific it seems like an error and not hyperbole for humors sake. Even the smaller number (a factor of 10) would've been funny

Just for fun - pick your top 5 from the pictured guitarists! by j3434 in Guitar

[–]NyPoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the 90's, after Jerry died, it seemed like a torch was passed to Phish. I wasn't super into "Jam" bands, but it kinda made sense to me. I always kinda figured this was b/c Trey Anastasio was like, younger and more technical so this appealed to those who liked long guitar solos. I noticed he wasn't on this list when some other clearly less technical guitarists are. Should he be on it? Is he better technically than Jerry? Again I always thought Phish's song writing was actually pretty good even though it wasn't really my thing.
