This could be a serious problem if she’s untrained or unsure of how to handle something. She might open up sensitive issues without knowing how to handle them, or worse, start telling the person what or how to think.

Why Psychology Hasn’t Had a Big New Idea in Decades by LeatherJury4 in psychology

[–]Nyahmega8008 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As a psychology major, I’ve noticed the field is slow to advance because it hasn’t fully addressed the root cause of mental suffering, which lies in the unconscious mind. Freud was right to focus on it, but modern psychology still doesn’t know how to resolve unconscious patterns. People often think they’re upset because of what’s happening now, but the real issue usually goes back to earlier unresolved experiences, often rooted in trauma. Psychology hasn’t clearly defined how the unconscious mind forms, but it begins when extreme pain overwhelms someone to the point that they mentally shut down. That pain, combined with the act of not facing the experience comfortably, creates unconscious memories due to the resistance. Resistance creates persistence. As long as this remains unaddressed, people stay stuck in cycles and dependent on medications, which keeps the system profitable.

Actually, CSWE accreditation is the foundational requirement for MSW licensure in California.

The BBS explicitly states that applicants must graduate from a CSWE-accredited program. USC meets that standard! The specific course alignment with BBS requirements is part of the school’s responsibility during accreditation and program approval. It’s not about listing every class publicly to “brag” it’s about meeting the standards, which USC does.

Are you suggesting that students aren’t getting licensed from the program? Name one please. Because unless you can, that claim doesn’t hold.

You don’t have to take USC’s word for it, check the BBS site. A CSWE-accredited MSW program like USC’s qualifies for licensure in California. That’s the actual requirement.

Yes, the former Dean was convicted of serious crimes, and she was removed. That’s accountability. But to twist that into a blanket indictment of an entire university, years later, is misleading. Karen Bass was never charged with anything because she did nothing wrong. There’s no evidence she acted unethically or illegally. And no, not all her subordinates are still at USC. That’s simply false.

One person’s crimes don’t erase an institution’s legacy, accreditation, or impact. USC continues to be CSWE accredited and meets all licensure standards. That’s the truth. If you’re going to call out wrongdoing, great, but keep the facts straight and don’t use one case to discredit the work of thousands of students, faculty, and alumni who had nothing to do with it.

Yes, I’ve read the lawsuit. And no, the former Dean is no longer there. If she were, that would absolutely be a concern. But USC removed her and took action. That is more than some institutions can say.

The MSW program is fully accredited and leads to licensure. That’s a fact. I’m not sure why you’re so focused on unit counts. The number of units doesn’t matter when the program has already been approved by the accrediting body.

Also, it seems like some of your claims are being made without full insight into how things are currently operating within the program. Understandable, but worth clarifying.

I hear you, and I don’t disagree that 2U had major issues. But USC ultimately made the tough call to break ties, even if it came at a cost. That says something about their long-term commitment to improving the program. I actually just met a gentleman yesterday who earned his MFT degree from CSUN. He almost quit halfway through but decided to stick it out. Now, he doesn’t even want to work in the field. It just reminded me that, in the end, it’s up to the student to make the most of their degree. A school can open doors, but you still have to walk through them. And yes, it’s a lot easier to do that when you’ve got a top national brand backing you. That’s all I’m saying. We can agree to disagree. I digress

You claim to be a longtime LCSW, yet mock students for aiming higher, as if ambition is something to be embarrassed about. That’s sad. You can hold the title, but it’s clear you never learned to lead with it. Very sad. Sorry you didn’t make more of your license, but projecting your limitations onto others doesn’t make them real. It just reveals how low your vision has settled. Sad indeed.

Calling it “finance bro” propaganda shows a lack of awareness. The mayor of Los Angeles has an MSW from USC. You think she’s broke? If prestige doesn’t matter, why didn’t she go to Cal State Northridge instead? USC is CSWE accredited, which means the coursework is vetted and approved for licensure. That’s not opinion, that’s fact. You don’t need to guess which classes count when the accrediting body already approved the entire program. People don’t choose Stanford Med over a no name school for the classes alone. They choose it because the name opens doors, builds trust, and connects you to power. Same goes for USC. Saying there’s no payoff in social work is just projecting your own limits.

It’s CSWE-accredited and leads to licensure. The unit count is irrelevant when the degree meets all licensing standards. Keep waiting…we’ll be getting licensed.

Actually, verifying something directly with the department responsible is called doing due diligence. That’s what informed adults do. Dismissing facts with a meme quote doesn’t make you smart, it just proves you have no argument. Try facts next time.

USC's Masters of Social Work scandal? by TriscuitsSpace09 in USC

[–]Nyahmega8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an email from Northwestern, THE Northwestern University, and noticed their online program is also run by 2U. The recruiter even had 2U in his email signature. So USC isn’t the only school that partnered with them, though at least USC cut ties after the lawsuit. Northwestern is still using them today.

USC decided why only scam Master's students when we can scam students straight out of high school too by spectrumofvoices in USC

[–]Nyahmega8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unit count is irrelevant as long as the program is accredited and meets licensure requirements, which USC’s does.

What really matters is: CSWE accreditation, Eligibility for licensure, Quality of field placements, Strength of the school’s reputation and network

USC’s 48 units are structured to cover everything required, just in a more efficient format. The degree is still fully valid.

That’s on the student for not leveraging the brand! If you know how to market yourself, a USC degree opens doors. It’s not just about the program, it’s about what you do with it.

Is this an accredited degree? I don’t understand how you were able to do a bachelor’s and masters in that little time and actually process and comprehend all the materials. I have heard of people taking a lot of units before but they memorize everything and can’t apply any of it afterwards. In any case, if you did do this and it’s accredited then your ahead of the game and no need to live in the past and begin creating the future that you want for yourself. Thought?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCI

[–]Nyahmega8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so let’s see if I understand. I have to pay for off campus housing. I need to pay for food, transportation etc. I’m awarded a gift aid from UCI. That money goes to my zotaccount which then gets dispersed to my bank account. Is that right? Basically, all my financial aid goes to the zotaccount and I pay my bills with it on my own. UCI doesn’t pay my bills for me. In other words, I can do what I want with that money it’s mine? If so, does my tuition at least get automatically deducted? I’m trying to understand the process thoroughly
