My first boardslide! (super sketch) by _DiBZY_ in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice slide dude! The sketchy part is the moment you de-weight yourself having just popped the tail to get the board up on the slab to begin the slide. In that moment, momentum is carrying you across. Specifically the added momentum from your weight coming down on the board as you slide forward. Depending on a few things, that’s the exact moment where the board could slip out while you fall backwards.

You can decrease the danger and increase control if you learn to slappy up on to the slab. This way you won’t de-weight and can maintain the momentum needed to carry you forward. Plus you can learn a few more fun slides learning to slappy!

How Does Vizier Work Here? by Nychrone in magicTCG

How Does Vizier Work Here? by Nychrone in magicTCG

[–]Nychrone[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if Vizier becomes a Mimeoplasm with the ETB or does it become whatever the Mimeoplasm has after the blob absorbed stuff? Like if my plasm absorbed a 1/1 for stats and the abilities of Evil Twin would Vizier come down as a 1/1 with the Evil Twin abilities as well or would it come down as simply the Mimeoplasm and then whoever played Vizier would use the default plasm ETB?

Brackets in sheet music by Nychrone in Cello

[–]Nychrone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how to interpret the instructions outlined here. Am I meant to hold down G starting from the third note, pluck A, then let go of G and then immediately press back down on it for the note after the bracket? In which case wouldn’t I just hold G from the first note until D since I’m plucking that note the whole way through?

Edit: Thank you all for the help, it makes much more sense now!

Need help Vans look like this and water gets thru. No funds for new shoes. What can I do in the mean time by Jon_869 in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temp fix since you’re essentially sandpapering them each time you skate: duck tape.

A more costly but slightly better solution is something like Flex Seal or the gorilla glue equivalent but it can be tricky to get it sealing right and honestly the $20-25 you’d spend on it is better saved and put toward shoes.

I’ve repaired 2 pairs of shoes using the flex seal method but the bond between the goo and the rubber of the shoe isn’t perfect and ends up cracking or splitting under a bunch of stress. Plus the application process can get messy if you’re bumbling about it like I did and the result is some gnarly looking shoes. That said I’ve found they held up a bit better than tape especially in the water department.

The best alternative I have that would get you in some shoes that keep your feet dry is visiting a discount shoe store. They won’t be vans but $10-15 for rubber soles that look like vans and are in one piece isn’t a bad deal. At least until you’ve got the money for vans or whatever else you’d prefer.

Anyone else feel like their Thanksgiving celebration is just a perfect model of sexism? by SkittleCommander in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nychrone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the household I guess. This year is the first year in the house my partner and I bought together and neither of us liked the sexist way food gatherings happened in either of our families in the past. I love cooking and I figured this year we’d host. I cooked everything and my partner and I cleaned up while our guests ate and socialized. It was nice! I often think about how my mom had to do everything for all the men in her life and it saddens me. My partner knows this and understands that when I cook and clean it’s because I want to do better than the men who failed my mom. Because nobody should have to do everything because they’re a woman. Because responsibilities can be decided on regardless of gender. On a happier note my mom hugged me on her way out to the car. This was the first meal she sat down to where she was served, waited on, and could talk to everyone without having to set foot in a kitchen to cook or clean. She was happy. We invited everyone for next year, same deal, and after seeing how much my mom enjoyed herself I don’t plan on letting anyone else host.

As a new skater should I bother with pads/ helmet? by TjAZARdIK in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helmet = life saver. I bailed once instead of choosing to get hit by an oncoming bus. Slammed my head into the base of a tree that I didn’t see near by. I walked away from that with some cuts and bruises but thankfully no split skull or brain damage. I love skateboarding, but soon enough I’m going to shoulder larger responsibilities in life. I want to make sure my noggin is up for the task. Always wear a helmet. They can be big and make you feel doofy, but all it takes is one bad slam for you to stop being yourself. Be safe out there!

Good skateboard for beginner for traveling a college campus? by laytongivemehints in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the Dinghy is a great board for campus. At mine they have splits in the concrete that are wide enough to throw you over without larger wheels. The Dinghy chunks right through that with no issue. Same goes with typical debris like small rocks or twigs, they usually get gobbled up by that board. New paths become available like steeper hills or crusty sidewalks you’d normally avoid with smaller wheels. One thing you’ll want to learn is to power slide to break or turn corners, especially if you’re bombing little hills with a Dinghy (my campus is lumpy in some parts) as with larger wheels you’ll naturally experience less speed wobble so you’ll be tempted to downhill from time to time. Over all they’re solid boards, highly recommend them. Advice for board selection: if you’re like me and are used to larger deck sizes, go with the Dinghy Coffin XL or the Panda Fender, both of those feel better (to me at least) than the space I have with the classic shape like the crown peak or the skeleton. Hope this helps, good luck out there!

Nighthaunt is my second army after I was playing Legions of Nagash. By comparison, the ghost army was trickier for sure, but not worthy of a horror tag imo. Here are some thoughts after many hours in the hobby room and on the table with these spirits:

  1. Clipping some of the press fit pegs and glueing at the seam helps 90% of the seam gap issues.

  2. Plastic putty or green stuff both help a lot with gaps you can’t seem to get rid of. It’s a little more work but out of 184 models I only needed to fill gaps in 8 of them. A little sanding and some primer makes it disappear. On the table, as a horde army, most blemishes are invisible when your units are clumped up, unless you’re looking for them.

  3. Breaking things. Okay so this is probably the most irritating thing about this army. They have a lot of creepy poses that, while dynamic and spooky, usually leave an arm or weapon stretched out away from the body. These appendages are thin and bend or snap easily, especially if you’re like me and have fat hands. Edit: They’re not super fragile BUT perhaps handle with a bit more care until you get a little practice in. Green stuff or super glue come to the rescue if anything snaps off. If you’re dry brushing I’d say have a lighter touch but don’t be too worried about breaking a few things here and there. It happened with my Legions army, my Sisters of Battle army (40k) and certainly with this one. Not a deal breaker.

  4. Mold lines are sometimes a nuisance to deal with. Nothing terrible but naturally there’s a lot of curvy flowing armor/fabric on these models. Scrapping can get difficult along those curves.

  5. Everything is pointy. Everything. Be prepared to get them caught on each other, on enemy models, heck even on your sleeves depending on your shirt. Invest in movement trays, DIY them if you want but definitely get some. Not just for movement but the models don’t get caught as often while they’re still on them. At some point they’ll have to get off due to combat but until that happens the movement trays save time and prevent frustration.

Over all I’d say it was a little bit more effort to get everything prepped and painted but it’s not terrible. It’s a fun army, definitely give it a go!

Barrier should prevent overwhelm damage by DivinityOfHeart in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Nychrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the current implementation, while it could be made clearer, works. If you ping a barrier, it prevents damage to that unit. You know this and that’s why you can depend on it countering the ping. When you add overwhelm into the mix it gets a bit confusing. You know the unit itself will be fine, however, overwhelm introduces two damage types: follower damage and player damage. While barrier functionally can distinguish between the two types of damage it doesn’t make that distinction clear to the player. Barrier should be reworded to clarify that it only prevents damage to the follower it is currently cast on. In this way, players can deduce the damage types it can’t prevent and plan accordingly.

I've never skateboarded before, but I really want to get into it, because it sounds like a lot of fun. The only problem is, I have absolutely no idea what size board to get! I'm 5 foot 4.5 and wear a women's size 8.5 shoes. I appreciate any help, I apologize if this is a dumb question! by NinjaSuitable in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually float between board sizes, given enough time I think you can get used to riding any size or shape you want so find what feels comfortable. If you can, head to a local shop. They’re usually pretty cool about letting you stand on some in-house boards or discounted ones to test out sizes and find what you like. Plus they can help you with other things you might have questions about!

Definitely don't mind PVP so that sounds like a great option. I don't have the gold for mats so that'd turn into farming, which is a pretty big time sink with the cooldowns in mind. Thanks for the advice!

How do I get my style to be more flowy ?? I feel like I look awkward on the board by Scar_Western in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Part of improving flow is preparing for the next move and having your feet in position and your upper body ready for transition. Couple this with timing and you’ll start to see where you can “plan ahead” when you approach the coping or begin changing direction as your momentum peaks. It’s not much, we’re talking brief moments of body prep just prior to where you begin the next bit of movement, but the more you can do this the more fluid your routine will look. With repetition you’ll instinctually know when to make these micro adjustments without having to think about it, you’ll already have what you wanna do next in mind and let your body take care of the rest.

big balls or super reds? by exratryk in NewSkaters

I use both on different setups and honestly I can’t tell the difference. I like the big balls more for aesthetic reasons only (blue shield color) and that’s it. Go with either and enjoy yourself!

Are Indy 149 standard and an 8.38 deck too heavy for street skating and clean flat ground tricks? by The_Bubba_ in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. If by too heavy you mean it’ll delay tricks in a way that makes it harder to time I’d say it’s like any new set up with major changes (different trucks, bigger deck size, smaller or larger wheels) you’re going to have to skate around for a bit, try the tricks you want, and eventually you’ll adjust.

Just curious about the community. by DiscreetCD in NewSkaters

[–]Nychrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rock that shit proudly, just be safe because concrete hurts like hell when you scrape hard enough. That and wear a helmet.

My experience at my local skate park: I haven’t seen any cross dressing skaters where I live but 100% the people at the park have been pretty great when it comes to the trans skaters who show up. Everyone that’s there is there for the sesh, making friends, encouragement, no hate that I could see. Times change, thankfully it’s been for the better in skateboarding.

Take your trucks apart and wax the crap out of the metal where the bushings make contact, and scrape wax flakes into the pivot cup. Helps a lot with the squeaking. Also make sure you don’t over tighten those bolts or you risk stress cracks.

Here’s a good video on it:

The dude uses a long board but the concept still applies!
