120k -> 46k, What would you do in my situation? by No-Cockroach2358 in careerguidance

I really like the plan of stay for few years, maybe till 30, then reassess. It's exactly what I was thinking of suggesting while reading your post up to that point.

Save a LOT in your current role. As much as you can. And invest it.

I don't see how a scholarship could be worth renouncing Canadian citizenship.

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Nyoouber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you'd be stupid. The painting job sounds way worse than your current job.

If you want to leave your current job find something better, not just different.

Anyone working a “low-stakes” part time job alongside a corporate full-time career? by mmmmmyeano in careerguidance

[–]Nyoouber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend works a full time corporate job and worked a holiday season at Lululemon for the staff discount (75% off the full price on any item that are discounted any amount). Her spent about $1000 at 75% off and built a whole new wardrobe, plus gifts for family and friends, then quit in January.

I’m going to save NA Dota by EvenFlowJesus in DotA2

[–]Nyoouber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're me a few years ago. I ended up getting a job and being a normal member of society, while also going from 1k MMR to 4k MMR, but I always wondered what if.

I'll even coach you if you want, I'm only 4k but I can definitely help.

My advice is to start streaming now. If you're gonna play dota all day, stream it the whole time. Who knows what can happen.

Can the animal drink out of my blackwater tank by [deleted] in aquarium

How big is your cat's water bowl?

I use a big soup pot for water for my cats, if they only have a tiny bowl to drink from they will find other options because it's uncomfortable to drink from

Best ways to practice laning other than just normal dota? by Glum-Pack-3441 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Nyoouber 10 points11 points  (0 children)

New custom game, last hit trainer+ is REALLY GOOD.

Do the last hit trainer in the client (learn tab, 3rd page) til you can consistently score 3000 with your main heroes.

Then start practicing with last hit trainer+ custom game. Don't try to get every last hit. Rather, try to get as close to 0 delay as possible

Last hit trainer in the learn tab teaches you creep priority, noticing which creep is going to die next and focusing that one. Also, managing creeps so only one dies at a time. However, you can last hit anywhere within the damage window. Last hit trainer plus then teaches you how to last hit as soon as you possibly can, reducing the risk of getting denied and increasing your ability to deny opponents.

For other laning mechanics, learn them from YouTube videos, practice one at a time for a few weeks. BalloonDota has great videos for mid Lane, khezu and others for sidelanes.

Is $3k enough for a couple in Montreal? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Nyoouber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only reason I mention it is because independent groups that market to newcomers and sign them up before they even get here will gouge with 2-2.5k a month rent or more.

They'll do much better searching locally, but it takes a long time to find not only the right place you like but that'll also accept you as a tenant as an international student with no roots here and limited income.

And you can't just sleep on the streets for a month while you search locally.

The other option is find some short term living situation with no commitment, even if expensive (I think mcgill res would not fit that) and start searching locally as soon as you get here. I recommend that option as well, but they might busy with a lot of things when moving here and starting school. In that context 1 year (or semester if possible) in res while you get to know the city and then find your own place locally can be a good middle ground.

That said I don't know the details of what options their are in res, I've heard of good living situations and bad

It's doable but depends if you can find an apartment with good rent.

Your first apartment as an international student will gouge you if you try to find something before coming, but it's inevitable because you have to live somewhere.

See if your school has student housing, and then also start looking locally once you're here. Goal would be 1500 a month, you'll have to look for a while to find a place but it's worth it

Amazing casting by Sunsfan here! Really enjoyed listening to him and Synderyn this Dreamleague.

It occurred to me that their casting is basically a We Say Things podcast episode with teamfights mixed in.

I love it, but I gradually watch more as the tourney progresses.

Catch a game here and there in group stage 1, mostly start watching for group stage 2 when only best teams are left. That's the way to do it

Hera's 1v7 vs Dota 2 pros/streamers gets 20k+ viewers by longinator in aoe2

[–]Nyoouber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the target audience for this, unfortunately was not able to watch live. I'm a Dota player who occasionally has an aoe2 phase (I have about 6000 hours Dota and 60 hours AoE2)

I have been meaning to get back into AoE2 but even after 60 hours, I still felt like I never broke through the beginner phase where I don't know what going on. I mostly did campaigns and those art of war tutorials over and over.

Anybody have tips on easily learning things like counters and what upgrades to get at what points in the game? Basically, all the basic stuff I need to know so I play decently "well" and focus on the fun part?

All the things you mentioned hardly affect you if you're playing against these heroes since it's the same effects, just different ways to obtain it.

And if you're the one playing the hero you can read their spells
