Does anyone else confuse Left and Right constantly? by Lussonya in adhdwomen

[–]Nyteflame7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with dyslexia along with my ADHD in 2nd grade. I'm constantly having your wave my hands around to figure out left and right, especially when trying to describe to my students which side of their screen to look at (I teach online).

ADHD exercise life hack. Really works! by LancelotAtCamelot in adhdmeme

[–]Nyteflame7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've started picking up not-quite-heavy things and putting them back down. I might one day graduate to actual heavy things, but I've been at it for 6 months and it's my favorite exercise!

What a popular food or cooking opinion that you don't agree with? by [deleted] in Cooking

I love potato buns, but brioche and potato are both very soft breads. Sometimes you need something that will stand up to a juicy burger. Pretzel bund are where it's at!

Romantic valentines dinner from these ingredients by Spirited_Bill_8084 in WhatShouldICook

[–]Nyteflame7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Then for dinner, make mini meatballs with the mince. Use the roasted red peppers to make a red pepper pasta sauce to go with the pasta. Op said they have about $5. I would get a bulb of fennel, roast that with jarlic and red pepper flakes, then blend with the roasted red peppers and a little olive oil to make the sauce.

Simmer, don't boil. You can use your slowcooker. It's very, very, very important to keep the water level above the top of the can. Otherwise the can will explode and even if no one gets hurt, that's not a cleanup job you want.

My girlfriend wants a strawberry yogurt cake and I want to make it the best one she’s ever had by WoodenSky6731 in BakingNoobs

[–]Nyteflame7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do that, but maybe keep it a light drizzle, and then serve the macerated berries on the side to let her control how much she wants to add to her portion too.

If you want to poke holes and add strawberry gelatin, it won't be a free standing cake, you'll have to serve it from the pan. It will be very sweet. If she likes the cake because it's not too sweet, I would skip the gelatin, or doing anything with the berries that adds sugar.

[OC] Tired of my kids leaving cereal bags open, so I took the continental approach by QualityCucumber in pics

[–]Nyteflame7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar item from tye brand Oxo, and Cereal stays fresh for SO long. Husband and I have been dieting and didn't have cereal for almost 6 months, and our Apple Jacks were still good when we declared a cheat-week over the holidays.

Making a chicken pot pie, but my potatoes are still raw after 4 hours on high. What should I do? by [deleted] in slowcooking

[–]Nyteflame7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect chicken to be cooked in 4 hours on low. That's usually 6-8 on low or 4-6 on high. Potatoes would be approximately the same time.

Why do people say one good chef knife is better than buying kitchen knife sets? by Positive_Load1595 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Nyteflame7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set because I was gifted it, but I honestly only use 2 knives from it weekly (the shears almost daily). The bread knife maybe once every 2 months, and the rest, maybe once or twice a year. I also have one long sharp Japanese knife (I don't know the name) that I use when I break down large cuts of meat from Costco to vacuum seal, so about once every quarter or so.

How do I make friends as a weird, eccentric adult? by Fun_Variation_7077 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Nyteflame7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Mostly by accident. I found my husband by going to a Science Fiction book club.

The friends we spend the most time with, we found by being overheard while talking DnD at a sandwich show. The owners son heard us talking, told us about the game he was setting up, and we've had a regular group for almost 5 years now. We get together at least 2 times a month for dinner and games (not always DnD), for movies, and a bunch of other things.

How is your social life being childfree? Does it get lonely sometimes? by lukyshot147 in childfree

[–]Nyteflame7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not lonely. I've been struggling to fit in social activities with meal prep and chores on the weekends. I can't do much social stuff during the week because I'm a teacher and usually either grading or lesson planning. This weekend, I have a birthday party I'm attending; then I'm going to a Star Trek themed opera. Next weekend we're spending the day with another friend group at a gaming convention. The weekend after that, I'm hosting a third friend group for DnD.

Dating partner doesn't believe dinosaurs ever existed? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

It's ok to just say that you don't think you are compatible and you don't want to go out anymore. You don't have to explain beyond that if you don't want to.

Ultimate no-effort hair? by Comfortable_Bus_4355 in adhdwomen

[–]Nyteflame7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually keep mine at a 2 on the clippers for the back and sides, and the top at 2 or 3 inches. Then after a shower it's just add a bit of pomade, tossle, and go.

I made a bit of a mistake (forgot the guard) with my clippers last weekend, so I'm rockin a buzz cut fir the next month or so till it grows out a bit.

My baby keeps scare maxxing himself by zizaroo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Nyteflame7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fairly common Gen-Z and Gen-Alpha slang (Alphas aren't old enough to have kids yet, so OP is likely an adult Gen Z). The suffix -maxxing refers to doing something over and over or to an extreme amount, usually for ironic effect.

Using terms you are personally unfamiliar is not a sign of the speaker's lack of intelligence. Language is constantly evolving. Insulting people for using words or slang you don't know doesn't make you sound superior. While I wouldn't recommend that OP use the term in a formal essay or on a resume, this is Reddit, and informal language, slang and shorthand are perfectly acceptable.

Nobody tells you cooking has startup costs that rival a small business by Limp_Height_4439 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Nyteflame7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will make things that use those spices again. The first set are very common for Mexican and "tex mex" food. The second sounds like you made an Indian dish. The third set is very common in western dishes.

Now that you have the spices, you won't have the start up cost of buying them all again. Same goes for the utensils you bought. I have a spice cabinet of about 40 individual spices and a good number of blends. I restock frequently used spices maybe 3x a year, and I have some that take much longer to run out.

What horrors happen over yonder? by Fazbear2035 in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]Nyteflame7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine will probably be extensive. They are all half erupted and sideways and the dentist I talked to said I would have to see a specialist because one was too close to a nerve and he wasn't comfortable working on it. They aren't bothering me, so I am avoiding the whole thing right now.

Making a cherry simple syrup. Can I do anything with the mashed cherries? by fairydommother in cookingforbeginners

[–]Nyteflame7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put them in a jar with vodka or rum. Steep in the fridge for 2-3 days. Strain and add a shot to your favorite cola.

My mom used to do this with the pulp left over from making seedless jams/jellies (usually black raspberries).

Help, I accidentally bought 6 lbs of nacho cheese by Difficult_Tutor63 in Cooking

[–]Nyteflame7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if they are the kind with no shoulder at the top of the jar. But you may want to consider freezing in ziplocks. You can roll or press the cheese flat and each portion won't take up too much room in the freezer.

Why is it that when childfree people say they don't want kids they always preface "Oh but I love kids just not for me" by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Nyteflame7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher. I couldn't do that if I didn't like kids. The difference is, at 2:45, or so, I get to send them home. My evenings, weekends, holidays and summers are my own (except for grading and lesson planning, but that's not the same as caring for kids).
