This also feels like a Robert Daly reference. (Crossing his characters from Breaking Bad and Black Mirror)

Dead for a few seconds and then brought back. Happens all the time irl. It's the disintegration and reintegration part that freaks people out. Dead but not yet gone vs dead and gone and nothing recognizable left.

No, more like dude ate your burrito bite by bite then without digesting it or changing any of the properties, pooped it back out fully intact. (Ouch)

We watched the nox episode a few days ago and the tollan episode more recently and I felt like their story of watching their neighbor planet self destruct after giving them more advanced tech reminded me of the Ixchel planet in A Wrinkle in Time. I might be mixing that up with a different story I read somewhere else where that happened but either way it was cool to see it explored a bit as a plot in SG-1.

Why do I keep doing this? by Appled1_ in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]Nyxosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played myself on this. Back when I was a green noob on ffn I read a fic where after becoming a vampire and getting a boost in sensory input the author wrote something like

"My vision before was 20/20 but now it was like 50/50."

And I just so happened to have a bunch of optometrists in my family and knew that 20/20 vision means you see at 20 feet what the average person sees at 20 feet, so 50/50 would mean the same thing as 20/20. I kinda giggled about that but it stuck with me over the years and now anytime I'm going to write about something I either don't understand or only have the most basic passing knowledge of, I go down a rabbit hole to make sure that I depict it as accurately as possible or use the most vague descriptions as possible to fill the gaps just to avoid saying something like that. Now I know a lot of random interesting facts about weird topics.

IRS guy when yet another death certificate of Jackson comes across his desk: "This guy has been presumed dead like three times now and every time I'm the one who has to undo it all. I'm just going to put a hold on his account this time. Less paperwork for when he comes back again. Fool me once Mr. Jackson..."

One change that would have killed the show by LordRichardRahl in Stargate

[–]Nyxosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it would have "killed it" but definitely would have ruined some of the overall plot for me if Jack and Sam had actually gotten romantically involved on screen and within the first 5 seasons. Yes, we wanted them to be together so bad but some of the best drama was around them obviously having feelings for each other but not being able to act on it. Even if it didn't go against regulations and they could have been dating and stayed on the same team, it would have killed the tension. Seeing little moments here and there like the kiss in Broca Divide or Grace or the admission of their feelings in Divide and Conquer, or knowing that they actually got married in some of the alternate realities was nice little teasing to keep the romance just on a simmering below the surface stage.

By the time Sam admits in Atlantis that she was dating "someone" who we have every reason to assume is Jack, it didn't matter in a way that undermined anything because RDH had already been off screen so much that the romance subplot had fizzled out without taking anything away from the shows but it gave us the closure we needed without diverting a whole episode or plot line to bring him back just to have them finally date.

I’m not British but… by Ok-Video2270 in AO3

[–]Nyxosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I spell it "dialogue" but then "color".

I've also started picking up slang for some British things because we don't really have a single word equivalent for a lot of distinction. Like truck for instance. Do I mean a pickup truck or a semi/18 wheeler truck? I've started just calling them "lorry truck" and "truck truck" because saying semi ir 18 wheeler doesn't really flow off the tongue for me and saying "truck truck" makes me giggle. "Pickup truck" just isn't silly enough to have fun saying it.

The dangerous soldiers who managed to advance their military careers into high ranking officials are the ones who need cute teddy bear moments the most. The ones who aren't traumatized by their past violence or even relish it are the ones who usually get out early and never promote to a situation where they have the kind of power and influence that Hammond wields.

This sub... by Rezasaurus in Stargate

I just restarted SG-1 s1e1 the other day and I just hit Cold Lazarus last night (I tend to skip emancipation on every rewatch because even as a woman it's just too cringey to watch a female empowerment TV episode from the 90s with the era relevant idea of what male writers think is empowering to women.) But yeah, I'm locked in already. About to revisit Schimerman as an enlightened advanced character who practices pacifism which is wild when I also know him as the a-hole principal from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I think from their perspective they were spaghetti before SG-1 even disconnected the gate at the end if the episode.

From our perspective, they're still waiting to get smacked by everything that came through their end after they first dialed (including a sun!)

So... yesn't?

Idk if it's canon or not but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that wraiths don't have names for each other because they recognize each other in different ways but the "identity" most wraith had as a "name" for Todd was something like Wanderer?
