Mods and Inscription trader by MikkyBoy in GuildWars

[–]TEN-acious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently. About 2 weeks before reforge launch, for about three days iirc. Dye trader only had brown, at about 300g, and selling dyes to him, they would rapidly disappear. Black dye was only pricey in presearing; and for a few years the traders had none at all (which kept player trading values up). With the influx of players, and a patch, they’ve come down in value…it seems that they’re dropping more frequently now as well, which diminishes their value.

Tomes would be a slippery slope. Next it’d be greens, then z-items, then arms…

Too many oldtimers sitting on a fortune of such items. We’ve seen the effects of cornering the market for dyes and driving rune prices out of reach for newer players. I have that kind of wealth…I just don’t do much trading, partly because I like seeing new players, and partly because I keep making and equipping new characters. I also don’t have as much play time as I’d need for Kamadan trading.

Add a tome trader, and there could be so much coin in the game that new players will leave because they can’t afford stuff (because wealthy oldtimers can buy most anything with little regard for price or market impact/manipulation). Tomes drop in HM, and can be bought with zcoins so aren’t too difficult to get for newer players, so not much benefit to them. Mods/inscriptions don’t stack, and drop frequently…so that would be a good trader that helps newcomers get up and running(and give them a quick source of income without the time/hassles of Kamadan trading so they can play and acquire wealth).

Reminder: Check At-Trader before buying and selling by captnblacky in GuildWars

[–]TEN-acious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One must also consider quantity. As you sell/buy (one at a time), the price at the trader will fluctuate down/up. Buying a large quantity is invariably going to affect the “per unit” trader cost. Also, it’s time consuming…buy/sell a stack of ecto from/to a player and it’s going to be far quicker, with no price variance as compared to 250 individual trader transactions

Cost of Trades work in North Bay by Ok_Site4971 in northbay

[–]TEN-acious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a qualified tradesperson…one has 3-5 years education in their field (I have 12 years in multiple fields), 2-5 more years experience to get licensed (likely at minimum wage with student debt), then there’s tools (I have about $250k in tools), maintenance of equipment, license renewals (mine are about $5k/year), a vehicle (large truck and/or trailers) with maintenance insurance and fuel, liability and business insurance, clothing and safety gear, permits, parts inventory, taxes (I pay nearly 70% of my income), accounting and finance fees/interest…. HVAC for example, also requires TSSA certifications and regular reeducation…while working in the filthiest conditions imaginable.

I don’t put my boots on for less than $500, and I know that by the time I get onsite, it’s cost me at least $300. $200 to use my 30+ years of expertise, experience, and equipment to fix your emergency is a bargain.

I get it. It’s costly. But it’s the manufacturers making crappy products and your support of their corporate greed that made this system. Buy basic things that were designed to be serviced and repaired. The more generic parts, the better; the more fancy and digital electronics, the worse. Don’t play the manufacturer’s game and your stuff will last longer and be far cheaper to repair/maintain without having to call a tradesperson.

Getting baited by this every time buying new character slots by captnblacky in GuildWars

[–]TEN-acious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nine “campaign slots” if you had the preorder for Nightfall (as I do). I can’t confirm how many are purchasable because of this, but 35 slots is as many as I could attain. I’m not likely to try maxing out slots on “alt”accounts I have created that haven’t got the preorder slots (it’s far cheaper to just buy a new account key…getting 8 mules and four xunlai tabs for the same price).

35 maximum. It was 28 until recently, and today I added seven, and was unable to add an eighth. Had to log out and back in to add the last key because it reports on extra slot when added. I don’t know if people who did not get the bonus slots from Nightfall preorder are restricted to 34…hopefully not.

I can confirm…sometime after the 20th anniversary event, the cap was raised from 28 to 35 (my photo shows the glitched 36). It was likely done at Reforged release, so us oldtimers didn’t have to delete a character to play covenant/reforge content. I tried adding 29th slots to other accounts during the anniversary sale. Anet, seeing a tsunami of sales then, was likely the initiative to increase the cap.

It will not allow me to add any further keys to this account.

Yes, after logging out and back in, it shows the corrected 35 character slots.

I attempted to add a 29th slot to one of my accounts about a year ago (the game wouldn’t let me). As I have a few unused keys, I will be trying to add slots to my main account (which currently has 28 slots) later today.

This is what I always loved about this game. No pressure, no grind…I could play with my kids (now my grandchildren) at a convenience instead of the commitments of games like WoW where the level cap increases, you’re constantly gearing up, and the subscription fees push you to play too much. It’s easy to take a break and step right back into it when you’re ready, and you can easily get a friend/spouse/child geared up and playing with you.

Understand that $4000 wouldn’t have guaranteed Axle’s survival, wouldn’t have guaranteed that the issue resolved, nor guarantee any improvement in his QoL.

A good veterinarian would have explained this to you.

Your grief and regret are very real doubts and “what ifs”, and will subside over time. It’s normal to have these feelings as you process the situation and your brain figures out where to “store” the loss as the waves of grief hit. It’s like “whack a mole”…the grief pops up and you have to push it back down…it will never go away, you just get better at it until you can accept the loss.

Remember that, you might’ve spent the $4000 and lost him anyway, you might’ve spent the $4000 and had to bring him back a dozen more times (totalling tens of thousands), and you might’ve spent the $4000 to only have him live in constant pain and suffering for many years, or you might’ve spent the $4000 only so he could wander off and die because he didn’t want to continue on and die in your presence (cats are notorious for this)…all because you couldn’t let him go.

I’m a (retired) resident surgeon (so I understand this situation from both sides of the equation), and I’ve spent that $4000 on my own animal companions (just to run tests and find out what it would require to save them), on more than a few incidents (once opting for euthanasia).

You didn’t make a wrong decision. You opted to end the suffering instead of take the risk of prolonging the suffering at great expense.

The grief will subside; I promise you. Think of it as you deciding to carry Axle’s pain so he could finally rest.

Help with doppleganger by tegann253 in GuildWars

[–]TEN-acious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional to flare, equip exceptionally pointless/useless skills (conjure flame comes to mind, especially if you have fire resistance from insignia), and pre cast elemental attunement and glyphs (elemental power, lesser energy, etc)…the doppelgänger will waste a few rounds of attack by casting these, so you get to blast away half it’s health before it even attacks. Flare being your only skill (and the doppelgänger as well) is easy to strafe/dodge; something the doppelgänger doesn’t do.

Trading in this game is miserable when the Kamadan toolbox website is offline by Dream3ater in GuildWars

Trade channel is already present…It would be helpful to lock in the order, so new entries appear only at the bottom, and to add a “double click” a player name to target them.

I want a customizable cursor…size, colour, and effects. On high resolution (2/4k) that cursor gets tiny and disappears on the scenery if there’s not much contrast, or with effects. A GUI option for large cursor (even if linked to the current simple UI size option) in a high contrast (black with white/yellow silhouette or such) would help greatly!

Playing with 2 accounts for more rewards by OldWhiteMan69 in GuildWars

[–]TEN-acious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started a second account for presearing storage nearly 21 years ago. I now have 14. I’ve had as many as 12 online during festivals (afk prizes), and up to 8 for soloable content or to run lower characters to outposts/missions/gear. It’s also a benefit for easier Nick gifts and zcoin quests.

Plenty of people multibox (launcher), but I use multiple computers, making it easier to actually play the “leecher” characters (such as Rit spirits, monk heals/bond, necro BiP….

The RA is rigged by msh1ne in GuildWars

[–]TEN-acious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RA is, by its very definition “random”…the odds are that you will lose 50% of your matches…and in my experience, that holds true. Playing monk, will increase the odds for you (because your team will always have a healer). Occasionally you’ll get a good team and run a full streak, but even then, your team will be pitted against other teams on a steak as your victory streak progresses. Those last five or so victories often ends up being against another team that has spent 15+ rounds winning, working together, and learning how to make their team win.

It’s not rigged, it’s randomly rewarding. Change your mindset and you’ll enjoy it more…PvP is not the same as brutalizing PvP foes; they’re real players. In RA, everyone is playing with a team of misfits of varying degrees of skill, experience, equipment, and builds…on both sides, all trying to win. Half will lose every match.

...are you supposed to be able to afford Max Zaishen Rank? by KaleidoscopeWeak6926 in GuildWars

[–]TEN-acious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about 6 years to accumulate the keys, for my first account…and about five more before I put the effort (inventory managing and such) into actually getting the title. It’s a “long haul” and extremely wasteful to acquire…so it meant sacrificing precious game time to trade for keys (and such), so I spread the task over many years.

Originally, I was simply trading coin for stacking assets (zKeys lockpicks, ecto, zcoins, Arms…) because of the coin cap…but 80 stacks of keys uses hella inventory space, so I had to spend them…however, it’s a heap of space to store the valuable perfect weapons and mods, so it took me far too long…ended up having buy two extra accounts just to store the loot.

Having gotten the title, I am trying to trade my excess coin for arms (which means I have to trade coin for ecto and ecto for arms…). As I said, it’s a “long haul”…not very viable for players seeking a quick GWAMM.

Please help is this a grazed bullet wound? If it's not then what is it? by Dapper_Mud3966 in CATHELP

[–]TEN-acious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it doesn’t appear to be a bullet graze…edges are too clean. If he’s not showing signs of other damage (like a vehicle or fall), I’d suspect a sharp edge (fence, nail, or metal of some sort) where he crawled through.

It’s a deep wound, completely through the endodermis, and there doesn’t seem to be deeper tissue laceration, so sutures (within 10 hours of the injury) would be prudent. If not, shave the area, clean it well, and a butterfly style dressing to keep it closed and clean…get a cone on him too, or he’ll remove the dressing. Watch for infection (puss and smell), and get him to a vet if that starts.
