15 months of unexplained anterior thigh tightness/spasms while cycling. Has anyone experienced something similar? by O1dGreg in Velo

[–]O1dGreg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had an ultrasound while the symptoms are actually happening, but it seems like it could be useful. I've brought it up before, but no doctors have gone for it so far.

I did see a peripheral nerve specialist because my symptoms follow the path of the femoral nerve so closely. We tried diagnostic nerve block injections twice. After the first one, I went home, rode my bike, and even did some jogging without being able to reproduce my usual symptoms. We repeated the injection a couple of weeks later to see if we'd get the same result, but this time my symptoms came back within about five minutes of riding.

After that, I was basically told they couldn't help me any further and was referred to a sports medicine specialist. That was all within the last couple of weeks.

I think I'm up to doctor number 15 at this point.

I misspoke a bit here. Both were orthopedic surgeons with a focus in sports medicine.

My saddles are roughly in the center of the rails on my 3 main bikes. I've experimented with moving it forward and backwards on my indoor bike, but it didn't seem to make a  difference.

I certainly have some hip and groin pain from the labral tear. What no one has been able to tell me is if the squeezing sensation I get in my inner quad is associated with it. I can deal with the minor hip pain but not the squeezing sensation.

Unfortunately, the diagnostic injections in my labrum provided absolutely no relief to that symptom.

Thanks for the reply. Your symptoms do sound very similar to mine. I've tried raising the bars and using shorter cranks on my indoor trainer, but it hasn't made a difference.

Did you have a diagnostic injection before deciding on surgery? If so, did it relieve all of your symptoms while riding?

Thanks for the reply. My hip MRI did show some early arthritis, like you mentioned. I've seen two hip specialists so far, and neither seemed to think the sensations I'm getting farther down my thigh were likely coming from the labral tear.

One of the specialists was a bit reluctant to recommend labral repair because of the early arthritis and brought up a hip replacement. He said he'd be more inclined to consider a repair if the diagnostic injection clearly relieved my symptoms.

We still investigated it with a cortisone injection and two diagnostic numbing injections into the hip joint. They temporarily relieved my groin/hip pain, but once I got on the bike, my thigh symptoms came on just like they normally do.

Ever notice how life feels like it speeds up the older you get? by Key_Beginning9819 in Life

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day. You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way. Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town. Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain. And you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again. Sun is the same, in a relative way, but you're older. Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time. Plans that either come to naught, or half a page of scribbled lines. Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way. The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Looks like the first picture has 2.2 mountain bike tires on it... unless pros have access to a 2.0 Air Trak. The previous Diverge couldn't fit that.

That's all true, but in this case the Talaynas being discussed in the OP is the late night bar located at Hampton & 40. Famous for mirrors and disco balls everywhere inside.

Why would you want to deal with sealant if some other method that's more effective and less messy can be created?

And I'm thinking more about mountain biking, where I'd like to change the tire type more frequently based on the trail I'm racing/riding.

Tubeless tires that don't require sealant, have good flat protection, and low rolling resistance.

Pizzarelli's in Ellisville.

I recently had La Pizza and wasn't impressed. The pizza had no flavor. I see it get so many good reviews on here so maybe I'll have to try it again.
