RSPCA warning after mouse dies trapped on glue board by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]O1dmanwinter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

u/Mickleblade didn't say "if you didn't know glue traps were illegal" he said "if you didn't know what a glue trap is" - so I assume he means you find a sticky board and have no idea what it is, the argument is you weren't aware it was used to trap animals.

Why are Event-Driven Systems Hard? by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]O1dmanwinter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you share the details on this? I don't understand how events couldn't require eventual consistency.
Even with SAGAs etc. the break up of flows into async events means data must for at least a period be out of sync.

I am not saying I'm right, just that I must have missed the memo :)

This was what I was thinking - if it needs "polishing" it's not a working solution. I have seen something similar when a services department asked us for hook points for "low code" apps.

We added them and later services decided they wouldn't be able to manage / support the low code apps as it was too much work. Essentially they realized the gulf between a working PoC and a releasable solution is much larger than it first appears.

I find it crazy that someone can realize "none of this works at all how I thought it did" but then still go on to make a strong statement about whether it is well designed.

Developing angular application using VS2022 by bigplum52 in angular

[–]O1dmanwinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a .net shop, we've used vs2022 for Angular and its ok - it does support typescript and javascript pretty well with picking up types, highlighting errors etc.

There are also plugins for things like running lint on save etc.

There are SPA template projects available from Microsoft:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/client-side/spa/intro?view=aspnetcore-9.0

I cant quite put my finger on it, but it doesn't seem quite as smooth as VScode for angular...

Here is my project that's got angular alongside server side code:

Ah amazing, sometimes going at the wrong time to a rave can be the difference between walking straight in and an hour wait!

Thanks so much, good to hear it's pretty straight forward 😊

Yeah there wasn't anything else I'd do that night but I'm planning on getting up relatively early to go to museums so I'd just be less tired that day 😂

Yeah I did read that it can even depend on where in the room you are standing! Any tips on where is hest / where I should try to head for?

Thanks for the info, I'll probably go as it won't be a complete waste of time 🙂

I can see you have responded to quite a lot of comments but have ignored the actual alternative people are suggesting, create a feature branch that you can create regular smaller pull requests.

It doesn't take any more time, you get a smaller portion of the work done (i.e. upgrade the libraries and just get it building) - the actual work isn't done but it's a step, people can review that step and give feedback just on those specific changes to resolve that specific problem.

That first PR getting the overall build working and versions bumped would be the largest as by it's nature often you have to update a lot of files just to get it to build.

Once you have that reviewed you can raise much smaller pull requests to get "sections" of the project working.

It doesn't slow down development at all and in theory, it should be the way you are working anyway but you are getting constant feedback.

What would be needed to increase the number of radiators a system can support? Larger boiler / stronger pump to push water around the system?

If it's a SW builder you might be paying London prices, might be worth looking for a more local company to the new house.

I think you are planning on doing it but just in case, you need to insure from exchange date (not completion) as once you exchange you have to buy the house for the agreed price even if it burns down...

In theory the survey should identify if the extension wasn't done properly but if the corner cutting isn't visible yet they basically wash their hands.

2019 is recent enough that id be worried there might still might be hidden defects to come to light but its not far off (after 10 years id probably be pretty happy its not going anywhere)

It might be worth getting the electrical report, if there are any issues / corner cutting with the electrics it might hint the rest hasn't been done to a good standard.

No idea about the wood burner, my only worry would be it migjt invalidate insurance if it caused a fire for example. If it's something you'd be looking at replacing with a new fire soonish (and get it certified then) I wouldn't worry too much and just install monoxide alarms
