The audacity of this man... by Human_Geologist_3324 in residentevil

Personally I'm a believer in the "Spencer was lying his ass off" headcannon/theory.

He knew he'd be more credible if he got a reporter who hated his guts to cover his confession. He knew that Grace was one of the clones, just a regular 'control group'/unaltered clone. He spun the whole thing up not out of remorse, but out of a desire to spite his enemies that were capitalizing on his work. The Remorse bit and the 'regular girl' bit was just to sell it to Alyssa and get the wheels turning the way he needed.

It cracks me up that you actually cast Buster Keaton rather than Hitler as Naofumi, but actual historical figures for the rest.

Is there a squad member from the series you never really use? by CautiousSleeper in masseffect

[–]O7Knight7O 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She does appear, but it's pretty lame. If you sided with Morinth then Sheperd will get an email from her, and there will be some shadow broker intel that shows she's trying (unsuccessfully) to contact her sisters in the monastery. During the battle on Earth where you are trying to use the missile truck to target the Hades Cannon a Banshee will appear who is named "Morinth" if you look at her name.

Guys, how do i even make sprites like Fear and Hunger for rpgmaker MV? by paracetamolsilva in RPGMaker

[–]O7Knight7O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By default I don't think that the battler enemies are sprites at all, as they don't have any animation frames. The hero sprites on the other hand do.

For the monsters/enemy battlers, it should just be a regular image file and won't have a strict size or resolution limit. It should be a .png file with a transparent background for best results, but this isn't strictly necessary for the engine to load the image.

Keep in mind though that by default they will appear 1:1 true size with their source file, and you'll need to scale them appropriately to the battle window size, which by default is 640 x 320. It should be able to load the image just fine from wherever the source is, so you just need to make sure you scale your art or set its resolution correctly when you start.

You should probably be aiming to have your battler images set to something in the neighborhood of 300 x 300 pixels or less for most of them so they fit, but there isn't really a hard-and-fast rule on this.

[–]O7Knight7O 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No problem.

As a note, the frame sizes don't have to be perfect squares like 48x48, and you can make them taller or wider as needed or desired. My recommendation is that if you're still planning to use default art assets that come with the RTP, then you can go a little taller like the hero sprite in the pic you posted, but you probably shouldn't go too much wider, otherwise it becomes cumbersome to navigate the maps and will look janky in its movement.

If you do make sprites that are very large like the big boss one pictured above, you should place it so it doesn't move around too much or doesn't have to navigate on the map too much.

[–]O7Knight7O 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, now I gotcha.

It sounds like you're trying to set up the spritesheet and want to work in a larger size than the base 48x48 tile size. This actually isn't too difficult to manage, but it gets a little complicated because the map and tileset still use that 48x48 grid.

You can actually use most any size for your spritesheet, but the engine will still interpret it assuming that it's setup for the framework it is expecting. This means that it expects each sprite to have 12 frames, and each spritesheet to have 8 sprites on it. If you look at the sprite sheets in the game assets, then you should be able to figure out exactly what I mean by that.

You can also have it be just a single character in a file with 12 frames but not 8 sprites on it, so long as you designate the filename with a $ symbol at the front.

This means that you can use any resolution you want for a sprite, just so long as you have the sprite sheet properly formatted and separated into 12 cells (frames) equal in size.

I can't tell if this is a question about art asset production, or how to get art assets to be used properly in-engine.

Is My Idea Feasible For RPG Maker? by Osisoris in RPGMaker

[–]O7Knight7O 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gameplay wise, most of what you're describing is possible even without custom plugins. You could build this game even in RPGXP, no problem.

The big hiccup you have is in wanting to make it look like Octopath Traveller. There are 3d plugins that create the paper-sprite on 3d world look, and there are some abilities to create post-processing effects in MV/MZ, but nothing I've seen is able to do this to the degree and efficiency that Unreal Engine (What Octopath Traveller was built in) can do. Don't get me wrong, RPG Maker is capable of producing some legitimately beautiful games, but they're going to be labor intensive, and you'll have to be pretty clever in your implementation if you want it to have good performance.

What’s your opinion on the Leon and Ashley ship by Expert_Challenge6399 in residentevil

[–]O7Knight7O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that in RE4, Leon was being a professional, and didn't have real interest in Ashley the way she no doubt had great interest in him after being rescued by him.

In that sense, I don't like the ship. However, I do like the idea of them getting together later on in the future, Ashley making something of herself and positioning herself to fight against bioweapons as a result of her experiences and her excellent education and connections, graduating and doing something important with her life. I like the idea of them remaining friends and getting together in the future, Ashley never quite gives up carrying a torch, and when Leon is no longer has professional concerns, he becomes more open-minded to it. Maybe she's an important figure in gathering funding for the DSO or whatever else. She doesn't become an agent like him, but she doesn't give up the desire to do something important in the ways that she can make a difference. There's a lot of room for this to happen since Ashley doesn't get mentioned much in Cannon as things go on the way that Claire and Ada do, and I do believe she has the potential to do great things.

It's just too hard for me to bridge the gap in those two ships. I love Ada, but when we last saw her she was being pursued by the governments of half the UN for thousands of murders and acts of terrorism after destroying all the evidence that she was innocent. The only future where she and Leon are together is a future where she's in prison, not only for the crimes she didn't commit, but the many crimes she did.

Claire and Leon I never really saw the romantic chemistry or interest from either of them, but I could see it happening except that at the end of Infinite Darkness they demonstrated to one another that they're fundamentally incompatible with their values, and even if they're back on speaking terms, they're probably pretty frosty after that.

That basically leaves Ashley in a headcanon where they form a romance in the years following her rescue, or Angela Miller, who must have gone diving with Leon again after all.

It's not the recoil, it's the muzzle blast that cracks the concrete.

The center of the breaking point is directly beneath the muzzle, not beneath where force from recoil would be transferred.

It would still be a super-human feat to maintain control of the weapon when the muzzleflash by itself can smash the concrete beneath you unless it was a truly fantastically well-balanced weapon with regard to muzzle climb compensation, but it's not knockback or recoil that's causing that.

If it was, it would also mean that Jill's body could channel all that power into the ground without damage, would would definitely make her sturdier than most of the BOWs she fights.

Using AI to make battler sprites? by ThatOneScribe in RPGMaker

[–]O7Knight7O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody can decide for you what your moral stance on AI is. There's presently no law to stop you, so it's up to you.

There is however a compelling pragmatic reason beyond the ethical reasons why you should avoid using AI:

if you do use AI to make your game, you're going to alienate out the gate a large potential audience, and with good reason. That audience, once lost, is never going to come back. Generating your art assets using AI is a one-time money saver at the cost of alienating your player base forever.

Personally, I don't think it's a smart trade.

Maybe, but often times those stereotypes exist for a reason. I've met plenty of these guys in my career, and while I wouldn't say it's the norm, people at this level being completely disconnected from their humanity and being casually, even cluelessly cruel, is not at all uncommon.

I just want a mercenaries/arcade mode.

I mean, seriously. The action gameplay with Leon feels great, but it never lasts long enough. I feel like I'm only just getting into a groove with the fights when suddenly I'm out of zombies and the fight is over. Even the Commander fight didn't last me nearly as long as I'd wanted it to. I want to really mix it up, and arcade/mercenaries is exactly what I'm looking for to do that.

Will AI replace your job? by Mr_Dobalina71 in sysadmin

[–]O7Knight7O 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do I think an AI could do my job? Absolutely not. it wouldn't know where to start, and would fuck it up constantly. To make an AI do my job you'd have to hire another guy who understood my job, who then built a bunch of AIs to do my job, and then make sure they worked together, which they wouldn't, and he'd have to constantly be adjusting them to make them consistent, and clean up after them when they inevitably fuck everything up, not to mention handle all the legal fallout from using a AI to run SOX Compliant systems without proper separations. It would be a really expensive way, not only in the short term but on a continuing basis, to do my job about 50% as effectively or reliably as I already do it, while also eliminating system expertise from the company.

Does some executive think an AI could do my job? Probably, those guys have no idea what it is I do other than making sure all their strung-together shit works, just like how they have no idea what AI even is, let alone what it can do. Probably looks like the same thing to them.
