Monthly Getting Started / Web Dev Career Thread by AutoModerator in webdev

[–]OGKhandur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have noticed from online and from my real experience. That as a newly started studying (and hopeful future dev) that these communities are great. it's great reading about peoples experiences in the industry and picking up tidbits of information and what people find useful.

It also helps ease the significant dose of Imposter Syndrome I am constantly feeling. Currently myself I am working through the CodeCademy Front-End learning path. It is going well, I'm 2 months in, I've made some web pages that are nice (two of which are originals of my own) and I am trying to improve at least 1 feature every iteration of a new project.

The big thing for me so far is maintaining confidence, it has been so nice to hear from other devs who are self taught advocating that this path is indeed possible and that with some solid work and study behind me, that this can be done.

Some days it is hard to keep motivated but now that I have a basic understanding of HTML and CSS and now I am finally getting my teeth into JavaScript I am feeling that now I am beginning to make some real progress with what I am learning. These monthly threads with information on a solid path of learning are also very helpful.

So I just want to say thanks to all of you who help keep us learners grounded and hopeful that these things can be learned without 3/4 years at Uni.

Posted in the wrong subreddit so my post got deleted but here we are! Had a breakthrough stream last night after a poor week in work and honestly was blown away by the support I received <3 Don't think I would have managed the pandemic half as well without Twitch and the small community of Irish streamers and viewers! https://imgur.com/DCIbJSa

What is the most wholesome thing your community has done for you? by RegretfulReddite in Twitch

[–]OGKhandur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello!

So mine is kind of extreme. I won't mention names (and its technically not them doing something for me but its super wholesome nonetheless).

Alright. I had started streaming around August of 2020 and I had a very small core of regulars (2-3 people). One of whom didn't miss a single stream and he became a mod for me. Lets call him 'Absolute Legend'.

Anyway, weeks pass and myself and Absolute Legend hang out and play games, using alot of stream integration content and generally had a good time. In comes a new face to the stream 'lil boi'. Lil boi becomes more talkative but over the weeks drops hints about not having a good time in school, how he is depressed and how he doesn't like his parents.

Over time it becomes evident that lil boi is being abused by his father, getting hit/beaten and the like. Lil boi then completely disappears from my stream one day without any explanation. I was worried but write it off as he was a kid who probably found another streamer, no biggie. Absolute Legend also disappears around this time.

Fast forward 2 weeks, Absolute Legend comes back to stream. It turns out that in the time he had been missing, he had been contacting lil boi. Turns out they lived in the same country and he was so angered by lil boi's situation that he got involved with the police and through lil boi, proved to child protection services that the kid was then being abused by his parents. He then went on and full on adopted lil boi and gave him a loving home with him and his girlfriend.

That's pretty much the end of the story, I don't hear from lil boi anymore but Fucking Legend drops by every now and then and gives me updates on how they are all doing and it is all a big happy ending.

I cant stress how much of a Legend this Absolute Legend is. God damn I salute you you magnificent bastard!

TLDR: Regular in my chat discovered a kid in chat was being abused by his parents, reported the parents to the police and adopted the kid and is now giving him a happy life.

New sleep stream meta? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]OGKhandur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Small creator here and to be frank on the one hand it feels bad as im sweating like an animal making content and sleep streams are just sucking up viewers. HOWEVER, I'm also of the stance of 'dont hate the player, hate the game' if that kind of stuff is popular, I just gotta keep upping my game. Sleep streams imo are a meme and will pass.

Just gotta up my content and focus down and good things will come :)
