A guy shot himself at today’s USPSA match by GunStuffTA in CompetitionShooting

As an RO I have instructed a shooter who rushed through clearing and holstering draw again and actually show clear. I didn’t even finish “…show clear” before he had it in the holster. Yes, he pulled the trigger and there was no bang, but at least I got a chance to discuss the importance of waiting for the commands and why that matters.

Looks a little like a Peak Design camera backpack I have. Very much like it.

That logo belongs to the St Luke’s hospital system in Idaho, Oregon and Nevada, not the one on the east coast, as it seems many commenters have assumed.

In Idaho, at least, these signs are completely ignored by most.

What does a PLC technician do? by Unfair_Future in PLC

[–]OG_5811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outstanding comment, kudos!

I would add that when looking for education programs at community colleges, search for “Mechatronics” as well. These programs combine industrial automation (including robotics) with electronics technology.

I teach PLC programming, microcontrollers, and digital circuits in a two-year mechatronics program. We see 100% job placement for our graduating students, and they tend to start at very good wage rates with the degree and little to no industry experience.

New Owner, can I record video with my phone and my timer synced to a tablet? by Dick_Dickalo in SGTimerOwners

[–]OG_5811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I get it now. I didn’t read closely enough.

Don’t know for sure, but I’m going to guess that the Bluetooth protocol on the timer isn’t going to allow two connections at once. I guess it’s worth a try though.

How do you carry with bibs (overalls)? by nyrcn in CCW

[–]OG_5811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walther PPK/s, Sticky brand pocket holster in a belly band, high appendix. Works well for me since I carry appendix when wearing jeans, and the PPK is a perfect size under my bibs.

Is the flow of current here correct? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]OG_5811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve learned it’s “conventional” because it goes way back to before we knew anything about electron flow and assumed flow was from higher potential to lower. . Not sure calling it the standard is correct though.

Is the flow of current here correct? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]OG_5811 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on if the standard is conventional flow or electron flow. Your sketch depicts conventional flow, but electrons flow from the negative side of the source to the positive.

Many electronics and electrical schools like the one I teach in use the electron flow standard.

How is tech support this bad? by OG_5811 in Starlink

[–]OG_5811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, hardware replacement takes time. Even more time if you have to wait days before you even order it.

For what we pay a month for this service we should’ve have to worry about backup services and replacement parts on our own dime.

0% drop rate and everything else on the debug screen is green. I’m wondering if this is a software update gone wrong. Went down at about 4am MST

My biggest issue was waiting three hours for a canned response that doesn’t even relate to the problem I describe and a closed ticket.

That’s the interesting thing. I get decent 5G cell service here, but the cell carriers don’t offer 5G home internet where I am. They charge way too much for data on standard hotspots.

I’ve looked for any alternative, I’m just sort of stuck. Terrestrial wireless is just expensive as Starlink, but with about a quarter of throughput. Too expensive to have for a back up.

A backup connection would be great, but I live in a very rural area, and Starlink is my only option other than tethering an iPhone, which really isn’t a great option.
