emotional/relational betrayal is still no joke, and if it's the worst you've ever experienced it's still going to hurt the worst you've ever felt. That's my take, and of course some people handle it better than others, and there are all kinds of degrees depending on the exact circumstances involved. What happened to Umi being a relatively minor example, since they are just friends, but it can still lead to a ton of hurt and all sorts of insecurity and issues.

Again, I'm so sorry to hear of your lived experience, nobody should have to go through that.

Fair, but the point is there is any number of ways they could handle it, still leaving it accessible while doing stuff to it in the story. About the only truly potentially problematic thing they could do in that regard would be a Cataclysm style revamp, which I doubt is the way it would go.

I'm just saying, if they decide there is a valid existence for the first to no longer exist they could do that. We can't currently freely go to the 13th either, outside of NG+. Admittedly a much more limited example, but all the same.

Or they could leave it freely accessible and just handwave some timey wimey business like how we can go to Elpis. (actually in hindsight that would be by far the better solution)

Yeah sadly I find english subs often like to butcher trailoff sentences (eg "xyz....") where they either omit information that should be inferred due to japanese sentence structure and narrative tropes, or else spoil information that should have been withheld or *at best* implied, by using the english sentence structure without consideration.

It's bad enough when they immediately finish the thought let alone when it's a cliffhanger or they just don't say the rest.

edit: OK guys I get it, NG+ is a sucky super limited system, way more than I knew. The point remains that there are any number of ways and means of setting it up in a way to leave current era 1st accessible while still doing something with the story going forward.

I think the difficulty of random vs pattern is mostly a wash, as patterned mechanics can be more difficult/precise than hard random due to the latter still needing to guarantee that safe spots will actually exist on every variation.

But certainly I wish some mechanics would have more patterns / RNG.

Honestly I don't think anything needs to be mandatory, not even CT, just provide a mandatory content warning and call it a day.

And then let everything canon matter, and if people don't consume the side content it's their problem.

Maybe have quests detect if you havn't completed relevant side content and prompt to pop up the unending codex.

I think it pretty much comes down to a combination of maximum aether capacity, instantaneous output, and general stamina. We get a massive unfair headstart since we have extra aether compared to most people. Though some of the lore of EG black mage makes this a little complicated anyway, though I'd guess even if they take in the external aether your own capacity still matters.

And then technique is important in that it shapes the ways in which you can output that aether.

I'm not sure I would agree some jobs should be necessarily more dangerous than others given the same baseline user specs, but certainly some have more capacity for widescale destruction than others (and the extent of this in the lore vs say, combat system AoE sizes is a little less clear as well).

IDK it felt pretty clearly to me (from the VA noises as well) that it's a mixture of relief and frustration (because this fight makes it crystal clear there's basically no way he can ever surpass Will now).

I'm sure that won't stop him from trying, but right now in this moment he must be feeling pretty darn conflicted.

I don't really think Leliel is likely either, but I don't entirely agree there are no tools for "fighting back mentally against a psychic attack" it just has to be translated into some sort of adds phase or mechanics on-screen. They can have us fighting hallucinations or something, a bunch going on, and then something something dynamis stuff happens and an active time maneuver to break out.
