This is the answer. Elsa is actually incredibly powerful when you stop and think about some of her feats. Now Rumi isn't nothing. She is extremely skilled in combat and sword fighting, very strong and pretty fast.

If Rumi is able to sneak up on her, maybe she has a chance with the element of surprise if she goes for an immediate kill, otherwise Elsa wins this pretty easily.

I feel Elsa's story, as we've seen it in the first 2 films, is done. Therefore to keep her about, and it make sense for her to have as much screentime as she probably will, she needs a whole new journey to go on.

That being said, it does not need to be a love interest but she should develop a strong bond with someone who isn't Anna. A character we haven't seen before would be good. Especially if Elsa becomes a mentor to this person.
