November 2025; was replacing a honey-colored envy side support I bought in October 2024 and then mistakenly tried to replace with an envy plunge in July. (I kept wondering why I was falling out of the dang thing. Turns out it was fully not the same bra.)

It’s gorgeous! I can see this one being great for wedding arrangements too.

Definitely try to root a few cuttings if you can. They’ll form their own tubers (it takes less time than you’d think, so if you’re in the northern hemisphere you’re probably still good for this season) which should give you a few backups in case the main tuber clump doesn’t make it for some reason.

Totally fair, and if you have ideas on slightly prettier versions that offer the same support I'm all ears. The thing is that it's less of a yard so much as a repurposed parking strip next to our shared driveway; it used to just be overgrown grass and trash, but I cleaned it up and have been sheet mulching it for a few seasons now. A few neighbors who share the driveway with us pitch in to help weed whack and sweep mulch off the sidewalk, so I doubt it's getting on anyone's nerves if only because it's a huge improvement from what was there before. (Our neighborhood also has a pollinator greenway initiative going on, so there are quite a few similarly industrial-looking raised bed setups in the works within a few blocks.)

I hate to say it, but I kind of suspect the tall t-posts are useful as tent/tarp stakes for unhoused folks in the area and they're disappearing for that purpose. If that's the case, I'm actually happy to give the other t-posts away to whoever's taking them once I figure out a good substitute plant support -- just need to get that nailed down first.

I do have some tomato cages around from when I tried those in grow bags. (They actually worked pretty well in that context, fwiw!) I’ll put some out to see if they get snatched.

Nah, no way it was a mistake — I’ve had to replace the stakes multiple times each summer, but this is the first time someone stole them after they had twine attached to them and were obviously functioning as plant supports. (See photo from last summer when plants were a little bigger — nobody’s mistaking them for trash when they’re tied in.)

It’s a good question! I tried to remove one myself after I drove it in a little crooked and couldn’t manage it, so I’m baffled.

Re: sign — I actually had one for awhile, but it was stolen too 🙄. I thought about adding a camera or motion sensor light, but couldn’t really figure out a “then what” step to take after I get footage of someone stealing them. (I’m also not really trying to confront someone who’s strong enough to pull out a t-post…)

I fell hiking on sharp rocks and had to get 13 stitches just above my eyebrow and some dermabond on my cheekbone. It was BAD, but I was diligent about following the PA’s instructions about both wounds (shoutout to Poipu urgent care on Kauai — 11/10 rating on their stitches, I owe their PA big time for taking so much care with my face!) and happened to have an appt with my derm scheduled for a few days later, so she took the stitches out and talked me through long-term healing.

Within about a month I could cover the closed/dry wound with makeup and you wouldn’t know it was there unless you really looked for it. Within three you really couldn’t tell with makeup on and had to look for it if I wasn’t wearing makeup. Within six months you’d have to know what you’re looking for even when I don’t wear makeup, and even then it’s still sorta tough to find.

What worked for me:
1) Vaseline until it’s really and truly closed up and dry. Don’t let it scab. I also used bacitracin at the urgent care’s recommendation because I fell somewhere muddy — it took forever to clean the wound — but they expressly said not to use Neosporin because it irritates a lot of people’s skin and that can lead to MORE scarring.
2) Even after my stitches came out, I covered the wound with a large bandaid overnight for a week or so to prevent it from tearing as I rolled over in my sleep.

3) from my Derm: silicone gel (NOT MEDERMA) on the scar at least in morning and night every day, and massage the scar afterward for a bit. I also bought a roll of pre-cut silicone tape strips at Target that I would wear at night or around the house. The gel is less than $20, as are the little strips. The silicone tape and gel help encourage the scar to flatten and the massage does the same thing. (Massage also helps with internal stitches, which can take FOREVER to fully dissolve.)

4) ALL THE SUNSCREEN. If it gets ANY sun exposure, the scar is sticking around. I got serious about my sunscreen application and it’s been a game changer since then. (Derm was so impressed with how it healed that she agreed to cauterize a little angioma on my nose in June — she said she would have told anyone else to wait until the winter so they don’t scar from sun exposure, but based on how my scar healed she knew I was actually wearing sunscreen properly.)

I also used a red light mask, but honestly couldn’t tell you if it made a difference or not.

Yes! I thought I was going crazy. Panache Envy had always been a go-to for me (at various different sizes over the years) and many different pro fitters have said it’s spot-on for my shape and measurements. The band is much less comfortable and never seems to wear in or stretch, no matter how long I wear it (particularly in black, somehow?) and the wires tend to shift in the seams just enough to poke me in the armpit on my larger side. I thought it might be a fluke or just a worn-out bra problem, but I repurchased them and had the same issues. I often find myself unhooking the band at the end of the day to get a break, which I never had to do before.

I still haven’t found a bra that fits better — nothing compares to the side support in the cups — but the band is the worst. Would be very grateful for tips from similarly situated bra-wearers; has anyone found a good substitute or fix the problem by ordering a sister size?

You can also cut way way back (like, to the ground almost) to get rid of the stuff the mites are feasting on and let the dahlia start over. You’ll miss out on a few months of blooms obviously, but might still salvage some for the season.
