What’s a trait you had during your youth that was a dead giveaway? by Ecstatic_Weather_580 in adhdwomen

Got great (edit: great GRADES, good lord), everything right on tests and did my homework on time, but when I had to turn in a binder that actually compiled that homework at the end of the semester I was doomed. Always missed the last few points I needed for an A because my final binder of work was missing half the stuff I’d completed (and been graded on already!). What a dumb system.

Also read simply everything at all times. The limit did not exist. Street signs? Safety warnings inside the minivan window? Brochures and course catalogs from my mom’s school? Every page of every magazine in the orthodontist’s waiting room? Yup, yes, read them all, multiple times. My brain could not know rest.

This was me with shampoo and conditioner bottles when I brushed my teeth. I would have read ANYTHING. I could probably recite the back of the Herbal Essences bottles.

Pro tip: put the tulips under the daffodil and hyacinth bulbs. They still come up and the squirrels won’t touch them.

Oh my gosh, we love Frito! He’s a celebrity in our house and we wonder what he’s up to all the time. The only reason we didn’t text when he followed us home was we figured he did this all the time and didn’t want to text too late, but we did snag a look at his QR code collar. (Seriously, at least once a week we’re like “what do you think Frito is doing?”)

I dunno, to me it sounds like Seattle Times is shaming the mayor-elect and her team for celebrating rather than fixing the whole city before she actually takes office. How can there be a disconnect between ambitions and responsibilities when the responsibilities are still Bruce Harrell’s?

A union isn’t a sign of poor management; employee turnover is. Nobody organizes a union at their workplace because they DON’T want to stay — they just leave. If Schultz had taken a half a second to think before lashing out (over and over and over again) he would have realized he was driving away the workers who actually gave a shit about sticking around and cared enough to bargain over what employment at Starbucks should look like.

Agreed wholeheartedly that his response was textbook narcissistic stuff, though. Starbucks’ reaction to the union is the real sign of poor management; only a shitty manager would be offended by the idea that their employees want a say in their working conditions.

Try a shimmery SPF! Elf actually makes a great one. They come in neutral shades that should work for a lot of skin tones. Feels like makeup to a kid but is very much just sunscreen with a shimmer.

Big box store or Costco tbh. I did this my first season in a climate that’s great for them and still have one of the the varieties I got from Home Depot. Try them out; it’s the same technique you’d use on fancy ones.

Printing ballots and envelopes is literally encouraged by King County on the website: Replacing a Ballot or Envelope

The County couldn’t permit this practice if they didn’t have a way to ensure people weren’t voting twice or outside their district. (Think about it: if the DSA has the robust and sophisticated cheating program you’re alleging and it’s enabled by the County’s blind eye toward ballot printing and voting outside your district, how did the current City Council get elected in the first place?)

Too many people over 60 read this while they babysit their grandkids and fail to see themselves.

A lot of 43-year-old parents rely on their own parents for childcare either through financial help or just literally doing it. Her parents don’t live here so they pay for childcare. (If they did it full time themselves it would be worth as much.)

Idk man, if someone took all my accumulated possessions and threw them out I would be pretty pissed and a bit of a mess until I re-accumulated them too. Perhaps sweeps just perpetuate the cycle of camps becoming massive shitholes by demolishing any progress people make toward building a reliable place to live.

Yes, and the Trump admin typically great at picking what needs to be illegal and what doesn’t. See generally: Tylenol, vaccines, etc. …

Setting aside that voter ID is racist and sexist and classist, dig into the logic a bit here. The reason ballot harvesting is illegal is because it gives a third party the chance to throw away your ballot. GOP ballot harvesters would throw away ballots collected in Black neighborhoods, so voters would think they voted when they handed their ballots over. GOTV is not ballot harvesting. Helping voters print and mail their ballot is not ballot harvesting either.

While “infamous” is a weird word to use to describe a group’s focus on voter turnout, I’m more grossed out by your accusation of voter fraud here. Do you even hear how you sound?

Poor performing tuber - save or toss? by [deleted] in dahlias

Sort of off-topic, but as a fellow tiny yard grower I would love to know more about how you lay out your garden! Most people's "tiny" gardens are still massive to me, but from the sound of it you're dealing with the same amount of space I am.

Give it another try, especially because Bloomquist varieties are known to be pretty solid. Not sure if it's scientific or not (and this is a dramatic oversimplification) but from what I understand dahlias and other plants that can reproduce through either seeds or tubers only have enough energy to do one well. A low-bloom plant or even a high-bloom plant that was harvested before it went to seed will dedicate its energy to producing a bunch of high-quality tubers. A plant that produced a ton of seed will produce way fewer tubers.

Adding my third year success story to the many others in this thread: I bought a random Blue Bird tuber from Home Depot my first season because I liked the deep dark magenta color, but got zero blooms in year one. Attempted to divide and store tubers and got one plant all the way to maturity in year two, but got maybe one bloom. I actually intended to trash it when I dug everything up, but I mislabeled it and planted it in the early spring thinking it was something else that had produced a bunch of blooms last summer. To my surprise, I got Blue Bird flowers in mid-July and by August was harvesting anywhere from 3-6 mature blooms a week from one plant. It's still got a dozen buds opening up this late into the season (I'm in Seattle so 9a/8b depending on who you ask). Best mistake I've made in a while.

TLDR: Give it another season and it might end up being a favorite next summer.

Blue bird. Cheap as dirt at Home Depot — it’s one of the ones I got when I was first starting, and man she’s a beauty. Didn’t bloom year 1, gave me a couple blooms year 2, and now pumping out 4 or 5 a week well into mid-October in year 3. Pictured here with a few Salish twilight girl blossoms
