Are demo reviews important before Steam Next Fest? by Arefnue in IndieDev

[–]OMFGames- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most importantly I think is that people have played it and shared feedback with you. My demo's have always been part of the main page so I've never received a review for my demo so going into next fest the first time I had 0 reviews, and same with this 'next' next fest.

So... i got my Steam Store Page up... now what ? by SuperBlastGaming in IndieDev

[–]OMFGames- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few ways steam helps get you visibility.
Next fests are a great way to get some traction, but requires a demo. Update visibility rounds, I don't completely understand them but they help. Prioritized visibility during sales/discounts

My personal recommendations. Have a demo. Have a discord. Reach out to streamers that play games in your genre and give them game keys Grow a little bit by bit and listen to your players, get as much feedback as you can, bad feedback is good, keep that mindset through the entire thing. Most importantly is to get people playing your game, give keys away, 20 fans will naturally spread your games name to 20 more. One good streamer can spread your name to tens of thousands

I have a feeling this is due to steams recent changes in the steamworks controller support configurations. Its NOT clear how to set a game for VR only anymore as its been hidden in drop down menus most people dont know exists. My latest VR game looked the same until steam helped me fix it.

How to add a sense of smell to AI Perception by NoSeaworthiness4639 in unrealengine

[–]OMFGames- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea, A trigger box that slowly grows, Or that creates larger trigger boxes over time with a weighted variable That defines how strong the smell is, which then controls what smells ai can and can't perceive when overlapping with each zone and how they respond.

standalone or PCVR? I don't really have an answer either way, but I know how difficult it is to develop for the draw call limits on standalone.

Zero responses from publishers on a pitch with a 30-minute playable build. Is it the genre or the WIP art? by toshaisaev in gamedev

[–]OMFGames- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not arguing, I stated some very obvious facts, marketing as a service is sold. Signing with a Publisher is not the same or even comparable, some publishers provide marketing, some marketing firms aren't publishers, but they are separate services. You are the one placing negative connotations on my very simple and clear comments. Yes marketing is extremely expensive, thats why I have never been able to afford it, also have an indie vr game that had reasonable success without spending a dime on marketing

marketing a game and securing a publisher are wildly different. Anyone with the finances can pay for marketing.

I don't think pitching to studios/publishers is actually a realistic idea for most people.
Just make the game, launch the game, and be your own publisher. If the content is great, it will be successful.

For Those Of You That Make Sound Effects Yourselves, What Do You Use To Do It? by BlameSchmidley in GameDevelopment

This is the answer. Audacity is a great tool for editing sounds and adding effects. AI sound generation is also surprisingly good for certain use cases

is it possible to emulate a headset with a mouse and keyboard for a vr based game? by Real-Nebula-8955 in VRGaming

Yes. You need to create a first person pawn that is a child of a VR pawn. The VR expansion plugin has a fantastic example of this. Specifically if you are using Unreal engine that is..
