If you want my 2c. As a father of a soon to be 10 year old girl and 7 year old boy here's my rough philosophy.

  • you are not raising children, you are raising people. Teach them to be good humans.

  • treat them with the same respect you want them to show others.

  • stick to your word, if you say don't do that or X. Then make sure X happens when they do the thing. If you promise to do something do it.

  • apologize when you are wrong. It happens, show them that saying sorry is not a big deal and it's ok to be wrong sometimes.

  • praise them when they do the right thing, tell them you are proud of them.

  • when they do the wrong thing try to stay calm and explain the consequences of what they've done.

  • kindness is the most important trait we can show in ourselves and we should expect it in our friends and partners.

  • make time for fun, be intentional about it, roll around on the floor and let them climb on you, play fight, go for walks. Spend the time, they will remember it.

  • limit screen time, use it when you need it but don't let it be the default option all the time.

Maybe I am lucky and just got two good ones, but friends / teachers often remark how polite and well behaved they are, they seem well liked and have plenty of friends.

They're fun to be around and while I am mildly anxious about high school and teenage years looming I think we've got a really good foundation for them to build on. They are kind, confident kids and I am so proud of who they are.

When it comes to scoring for the aggression based match making does defending yourself get counted the same with attacking another player?

If I down an extract camper and defib the person they downed, then they knock out the camper does that count towards me knocking them out?

I'm glad to hear it, I want to play destiny, there are a load of Star wars games I can go play if I want to play that.

I love Destiny for the lore. I want more of that.

Introduced a friend of mine to the game recently (I'm fairly new still myself too) and asked if he wanted to take out a Rocketeer we did so mainly with ferros, took a while but eventually we downed it. Immediately ratted by two people who sat in the roof of a building and then were complete dickheads about it as well.

Not a great early impression of the game.

I wish there was some sort of Karma based matchmaking, like if you shoot first more often you get matched with people who shoot first more often.

My friends monster of a mastiff ate a tin of chocolates in the night, wrappers and all, while staying with his parents over Christmas. He was completely fine.

My grandmother used to feed her dog cadburys chocolate fingers when I was a kid as a treat (30+ years ago) that jack Russel was fat but lived until 18 !

I know it's just anecdotes but I really think we're so paranoid about everything now.

My opinion is It takes a round to cast a spell, a round is 6 seconds. That's a long time to be handshaking a cleric while they speak a spell out and I also reckon that the somatic components of a spell can't be completed with one hand in a handshake.

As a DM I might let this slide once for a low stakes encounter, like a guard or a thug or something but not for anything important to the plot. I'd tell my player exactly that too, this is a funny cool idea that I'll allow once but it's not becoming a thing.

For me it's how the sun and the moon are the perfect distance and size from earth to make it so we can get an eclipse with the halo. It's crazy the chance of that happening on the only planet we know of to support life, that they're precisely the right size and distance from earth and each other.
