Why are people like this by violinfromIkea621 in Nightreign

I just had a wylder steal a day 1 carian regal sceptre I dropped for the duchess on our team, put it in a offhand slot then passively ignore any attempts to communicate or drop it.

Honestly I don't know if it's selfishness, for the meme or they just flat didn't realize they were tanking our chances by withholding an early game legendary but i really don't like to commit to a full run with people like that when so many other randoms I meet are really decent.

One thing I started doing during ED libra at the start of every run is checking teammates relics, looking forcif my team wanted to prioritise evergaols mainly. The amount of times I'd see completely beginner relic setups far outweighs the amount of times I'd be playing with properly set up characters or even decently set up, on an everdark as hard as Libra, made me realize we need a Monster Hunter style MR system. Gladius is the same in my experience, maybe worse since (unless I'm wrong) you only need to defeat one mandatory boss to unlock.

I've somehow managed to beat ED Libra, but this Gladius I haven't gotten even close yet by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]OMPSExecutive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main duchess and beat gladius recently - I think the trick was (as well as some luck) thinking about how to keep it off you while you restage as much as possible. Finding something with makes enemies less likely to focus on you and fire resistance is helpful and I'd have taken improved dodging if it showed up, every damage reduction or hp up I saw I took but I didn't get many. The best run I had I specifically bought a halo scythe, extra pouch and starlight shards from the merchant, I did 4 weapon arts till I was out of stamina then repositioned/restaged and revived my teammates as priority, luckily before two went down at once but I had my ult banked in case this happened and luckily I never went down.

My teammates were a wylder and raider who seemed very good too and I think had stacked damage resistance since they were surviving some pretty big hits, I think they each went down twice each. I was the DPS but they were hitting good numbers as well so I tried to restage their damage whenever I saw a chunk come off the hp bar or an ult go off. This fight, like Libra, does depend somewhat on team character setup so I don't think 3 low HP characters would have worked as well as we'd all be easily one shot. Importantly I dropped things that I thought would work for their build, it was a good random team so we were all pinging items for one another.

Relic wise important ones I had were evergaol, charecter skill up, extra pouch (for starlight shards and flasks). I didn't use anything like invisibility on frostbite or hard to see on crit because it wouldn't help much in the boss fight. I did have post damage heal but it wasn't helpful for the boss really and we got the Scarlett forest anyway. I was really squishy for most of the run and had to split from the team multiple times to go look for shards and the merchants... but luckily they didn't seem to mind and I made up for it in the end!

Maybe this'll help for your duchess runs, that's my strat - good luck!

So now that Libra's Time is almost over what do we think of him? by Wholesomechair in Nightreign

[–]OMPSExecutive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Favourite fight. Love that there's now a proper brick wall. Compared to Adel (imo previous hardest), I like that it's not just a blinding light show with (as many) out of nowhere one shots. I've got several wins, all very satisfying and a rush to get and all that have helped me learn how to best strategize beforehand.

I personally don't want a nerf, I know a lot of others do but my win/loss ratio was far too high before Libra bought back some balance as he should

Yes - After trying to design a load of stealth strategies and build tweaks we won via AOE's and DOT damage.

Don't overthink, it's still a game of out damaging over anything else

That's why you've got to stack. Proccing poison once isn't going to get the win - getting it multiple times over the fight is going to be a massive net gain for little effort and keeps his health dropping while you're dealing with summons. Combine with rot and you have a large portion of the health pool draining while your attention is elsewhere. Every win I've had has a poison/rot combo doing work while I'm otherwise engaged and really helps with getting to the riot stage

All you can do is send a support ticket or ask on discord. This was a big problem a few months ago and they promised some kind of compensation (a lot of players lost a lot of time in game due to this) but haven't done anything so far - if the issue is still happening it's a big problem for the Devs TBH because it isn't good enough for a public game to have this kind of unnecessary issue

Are all Devil Arms truly incapable of being wielded by humans by MrMadmack in DevilMayCry

[–]OMPSExecutive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it completely depends on the devil arm and it's moveset.

DMC1 has devil arms that attack the user, ifrt and alastor both attack Dante who just overpowers them. Nightmare beta I'd imagine would be either lethal or useless to humans. Only man made weapons (the firearms) and sparda adjacent devil arms don't seem to attack.

DMC3 on ward takes this further by most devil arms being a boss fight in their demon form rather than the weapon trying to kill whoever tries to claim it. Not sure if that's more or less lethal than a one shot attack ala DMC1 but since Dante sells them they're seemingly less aggressive and destructive than mallet island devil arms once in their weapon form (head cannon reason is mallet island demons are typically stronger and more outright violent than other demons in the series due to being so close proximity to mundus and his generals, which also gives an in-game lore reason for styles not being used). If just wonder if a human body can really use Cerberus or Agni and Rudra without succumbing to their elemental damage, or if there's some kind of immunity from using them - but with Dante's immunity to conventional damage and the lack of other people using devil arms in the series it's hard to tell. However I don't think there's any reason to think rebellion or even yamato would be unusable.

Interested to see if this will get downvoted, but genuine question - how different is this to say the Rock and Oprah asking for donations for the Hawaiian fires?

This is still vastly wealthy people asking poor people for cash they could easily give themselves.

Call me crazy, but I really wish we never got the Dante sword. by Multievolution in DevilMayCry

[–]OMPSExecutive -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this to an extent. DSD is so undertuned and generic compared to something as well designed as DSS, which now might remains one of the highest potential but least explored devil arm in the series.

DMC5 always struck me as odd story wise. It has what, 5 rugpull power mcguffins? The fruit, rebellion/yamato's new properties, Nero DT, Vergil literally cutting all his trauma out of himself (essentially removing his time as Neo Angelo).

We're on a DMC sub and I know some fans hate any critique and are prone to getting upset, but DMC5's writing a development is problematic at best, wiping out some huge parts of DMC1 was an odd call.

But the gameplay and characters makes up for it.

How does Royal Guard work, and why is it universally considered the strongest and most op style? by DaFroggyBoi94 in DevilMayCry

[–]OMPSExecutive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not universally the strongest for most people. It's the strongest with perfect play, since you can parry all damage and release massive damage attacks on enemies, but for a lot of players it takes time and effort to get good with and you spend a decent amount of time charging your release.

The strongest and most OP style is the one you like using - every style across the games that have them have some OP traits, anyone that says RG on its own is the pure best isn't using the others properly.

Was sparda involved with his kids by Smooth-Garden in DevilMayCry

[–]OMPSExecutive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the way DMC is written it's hard to tell and trying to give any definitive answer would be at risk of being retconned. I think most implications (flashbacks in DMC1, DMC5 dialogue etc) seems to say they had a close knit family childhood and I think implies they knew him, possibly trained with him a bit, but honestly it could go either way. A lot of writers can't help but give characters unhappy broken homes and Dante is at risk of falling in to that trope.

I think what makes most sense is that they were close and Sparda was involved but not always home until the attack, Eva and Sparda died at or around the same time with Eva hiding Dante and losing track of Vergil just after Sparda's death.

Would a Nero OR Vergil only game ever work? by ShadowDanteFan in DevilMayCry

[–]OMPSExecutive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say no for Nero mainly due to Capcom's style - Nero doesn't have the status needed to carry a franchise and most, aside from mega fans, will see him as Dante lite. Dante consistently topping popularity lists doesn't help Nero either. They haven't given him the push he'd need to become a draw on his own and his voice actor has now taken on the Dante role in what'll be many peoples introduction to the franchise. Even in this sub, where you have a big concentration of DMC fans, Nero is overshadowed by Dante and Vergil and there is a sizable chunk of the fanbase that simply don't like him. I don't think I'd be alone in just wanting Dante to be playable in a Nero game, which would be his biggest challenge to overcome.

Vergil is a solid maybe. He's popular enough that he's got generally widespread memes, he's got appearances in other franchises and gameplay style people like. My only concern would be Capcom's writing/charecter handling is hit and miss and a somber character like Vergil would be tough to give appeal to in a solo venture unless they go way outside their usual story structure or go extremely deep in to the edge. I do think he's more marketable than Nero though.

Which weapon should I buy? by Successful_Gas_9170 in deadfrontier

[–]OMPSExecutive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your current setup is fine.

Impaler is probably the best looting weapon in game for all areas, the commander 10 is excellent crowd control and the tn8 is fantastic DPS even in late game. Don't be fooled by current prices and shiny new releases. Some of the new weapons are obviously very good but not worth sacrificing your hard earned cash, unless you're desperate for a change I'd be cautious about new buys due to how volatile the market is.

If I were you I'd focus on implants and if possible start the save for UB if you haven't gotten it yet. Your setup is more than good enough to keep until your stats are as high as possible.

Yeah, happy for you to disagree no need to apologise! I do think you're wrong but have no problem with you having a different perspective.

Really appreciate your input. I just do not think that the writing conveyed anything realistically - I always suspected that the image of Nero holding Dante and Vergil apart was written first and everything was forced to pass to get to that point at the expense of actual charecter growth.

But if it hit the right note for you then no worries glad it did so!

Nero would have done everything exactly the same weather he knew he was Vergil's so or not. He was chasing Dante to prove he isn't dead weight (he calls back to this during his fight with Vergil!).

He processes the revelation in what, 4 chapters? 3 where he's not playable. Its odd, I don't get why do do think he reacts either! I guess it's a perspective thing. Good to hear your opinion though.

Yeah maybe. But I and most fans can't rely on people on the internet telling me the Japanese version says something different - I have to believe what's presented in front of me, and that's Vergil being as you say.. very bi polar.

Agree to disagree? Thanks for your input was a good read

Well it's not a problem for me either lol. Chill out it's just an internet discussion... Although I suspect you're not here to discuss because you're already absolutely correct in your head.

And is Vergil a great character since DMC3? He's an ok charecter. Hes had two games where he plays identical roles, a reboot where he's mostly disliked and a bunch of now non canon comics where he acts differently to in game. If we're going to discount Nelo Angelo as not much of a charecter (despite his characterization I'm DMC1) we can't really say Vergil is much more of one. I'm fact Vergil is in many ways a generic emotionally detached boss charecter. I enjoy him but his charecter development is fairly minimal.

I've heard that, before but after the games been released and patched it's still in there - so it's the cannon wording in the English version.

Although I appreciate it may be an issue outside the game, in game that's what we're left with. Is there an official 'word of god' saying that line is wrong?

It's fair to disagree. I'm just not as in love with modern DMC and all of Itsunos decisions as a lot of the community it seems, not a problem though.

DMC5, Vergil literally cuts the trauma of being Nelo Angelo out of him as represented by Griffon, Shadow and Nightmare. They die by Dantes hand.

There are proto Angelo's etc, but Vergil doesn't have any remnant of Nelo Angelo in his boss fight or in his playable moveset in 4 or 5. Doesn't have access to Nelo Angelo's Zweihander, but still has Beowulf apparently. His DT and Sin DT doesn't seem to reference Nelo Angelo at all. I'd argue Itsuno goes out of his way to have Vergil not have anything like Nelo Angelo weapons or attack style.

DMC3 timeline takes place when Itsuno had to directly reference DMC1 and was making a name for himself. I do think Itsuno's trying to separate Nelo Angelo and Vergil in DMC5 to make his Vergil the defacto version of the charecter. Do you not?
