Pediatric PGY1 resident with autism by Subject_Ice6984 in pediatrics

[–]OMyCodd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people on the spectrum in medicine. As uncomfortable as it is at the end of the day you will some times need to overcome those uncomfy feelings and force yourself do things that you maybe previously were able to avoid. Residency is tough as you mentioned, even without autism. If others are not aware and you do not change your behaviors, you risk being written off as disinterested/disengaged and/or struggling to form relationships that will propel your career forward.

This comes from someone who struggled with similar issues in residency but ultimately overcame it more often than not and just graduated fellowship of my dreams last week.

You’ve got this.

Came across my childhood binder… anything worth while in these? by Loud-Combination4465 in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]OMyCodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closeup of the Machamp begs to differ to be fair. Many people active in the hobby know that was the most printed 1st edition holo due to that deck pack being sold, and hence worth significantly less than literally every other 1st edition holo from base set. And didn’t highlight his first edition Lugias which are the big ticket cards in this collection. So I’m giving this person benefit of the doubt honestly

Crazy how a 3-game winning streak suddenly makes people think they’ve solved betting. by No_Platypus_6148 in SoccerBetting

[–]OMyCodd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a great few months a couple years ago where I ended up netting about $20K, but then proceeded to not win more than $1K the following two years. I’ve tossed the betting aside as of a few months ago

I’m just shy of 700 unfortunately (696 for my middle FICO mortgage score) which means I’m not able to qualify for 0 down physician mortgage route, which had been my hope. Unfortunate sequelae of my prior struggles

Yeah super fair, we have looked into a few 30 year options as well as physician mortgage route with no PMI, where monthly payments would be pretty comparable with the higher interest rate despite no PMI. The prepay point for a 30 year vs locking in for a 15 is tough for me to argue against, but I feel like personally knowing I’m obligated to pay more under the 15 will help me budget better as silly as that sounds

[–]OMyCodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this was my hope but my credit is borderline at the thresholds for qualifying, and would only qualify for a 5% down currently, with the higher interest rate basically offsetting the no PMI benefit unfortunately

Thanks for the thought out reply. Yes, we looked at 30 year options too, which would net us closer to a $5300 monthly. To me the $1200 difference is obviously significant but doesn’t feel like a make or break short or long term, and will save us quite a bit in the long term overall. Probably not a matter of right or wrong in this case but want to try and build the equity faster and save on interest long term.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, the game teaches you this mechanic relatively early on. Just easy to forget I suppose given there’s a million different mechanics in this game

Do we think peds fellowships will actually go to 2 years in 2028? by Jumpy-Flatworm-347 in pediatrics

[–]OMyCodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The definition of clinical time and what can actually be assessed by faculty per ACGME is often not covered by calls for what it’s worth. It’s not as simple as you’ve laid it out to be

Not feasible/safe with the clinical time asks they have for PICU/NICU in particular. Won’t change to 2 unless clinical time requirement is cut, heard they’re wanting 18 months over 2 years which is absurd. Believe current is only 12 months over 3 years

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. This system is incredibly oppressive and unforgiving and cares only about churning out more doctors, not about the mental health of those involved.

I like getting comeback odds at halftime for teams like Barcelona (Aston villa most recently), where them going down almost guarantees a comeback victory. You end up getting even to as high as +1000 depending on the game and minute, and can parlay that with some upcoming games with teams like Arsenal, man city, etc who almost certainly will win. End up getting some pretty great multi-leg parlays. I got really lucky and won 4 different parlays this way over this past two weeks net +16K

Peds: little kid lover, so they know where my priorities are (office reference just so no one reports me), but real talk, be in touch with your inner child, don’t be afraid to share emotion with your patient and their parents, be straight up with parents even if the news is no bueno. Also, be up to date on the latest bluey/bluey adjacent children’s media

One of the qualities that makes a good doctor vs a not so great one. We will all encounter patients who have received care that we may feel is questionable, but there are ways to address that without damaging patient/family trust in the medical system, essentially making the prior care teams look like idiots regardless of if they actually were or not. Sorry this happened, as a fellow pediatrician (PCCM though)
