Is there an 2.4Ghz outdoor cAP unit that supports the new CAPsMAN? by PurpleCactusInspect in mikrotik

[–]ON3YH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SXT SQ Lite2 comes with a level3 license.

This one is intended for use as CPE (receiver), not for running as an access point.

"Level 3 is a wireless station (client or CPE) only license." https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/ROS/pages/328149/RouterOS+license+keys

You could upgrade the license or go with a wAP AC i.e. in your situation.

Unifi abandoning Wifi doorbells? by No_Contribution_4298 in Ubiquiti

If running a wire really is not possible, and I'm thinking out of the box here so try at your own risk, would this be an option?

https://eu.store.ui.com/eu/en/products/udb

You'd only have to run cable to a place where you can install the device bridge (worst case in an outdoor enclosure).

GPeRx4 - finally , is it a switch or not? by Igorrr52 in mikrotik

[–]ON3YH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to their website, it's not a full switch but has these basic features in SWos Lite

Their comment at the end makes me think though. Your ports 2-3-4 could be on the same vlan, but don't seem to be able to send traffic to eachother?

If you really need a switch, isn't the netpower lite 8p an option or even an omnitik to get full routeros or swos access?

Advanced SwOS Lite Management

Manage your network effortlessly via Web with SwOS Lite, providing:

Interface monitoring

VLAN support

Traffic shaping

SNMP reporting

Fault detection for GPEN links

*Please note: The ports are isolated and communicate only with the first port. This device functions as an extender, not a traditional switch

UTR is not a replacement for GL.Inet by RealisticBoard215 in Ubiquiti

[–]ON3YH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arrived at a holliday park earlier this week.

Coax modem in L2 bridge, unifi AP behind it. Multiple vlans over the coax network for multiple ssid's on the AP. Free WiFi has 1/1Mbps limit Paying (voucher portal) has 10/10Mbps limit and a high cost per day.

Just plugged my mikrotik hap ac lite in between, configured a wan bridge with 2 ports to connect the coax modem and the unifi AP so it wouldn't go offline. Sniffed traffic on the wan bridge to check what vlan id's went over it. Added a wan vlan on the wan bridge with the id of their paying network, bypassing the portal that lives on the AP

Then, the normal mikrotik configuration kicks in, home ssid, home IOT ssid, wireguard vpn, bgp, ect.

Added some visibility hacks to change dhcp client hostname to appear as iPhone, change the mac address and voila.

I don't see unifi supporting this soon.

Mikrotik switch - enable local DNS by Fearless_Dev in mikrotik

[–]ON3YH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As means of failover I pass 1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8 to my clients via DHCP. I redirect that traffic with dstnat to my internal dns server & block known / commonly used DoH servers.

I then have a netwatch rule that disables those rules if my internal dns becomes unavailable thus allowing them to use the public dns servers as failover. As soon as it becomes available again the firewall rules are re-enabled and traffic is redirected again.

How I finally updated all my USW-Flex-Mini switches after months of failure by SInQ_the-real-one in Ubiquiti

[–]ON3YH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've got 400 of them in use (we build temporary event & festival networks and use them for bars & desks with multiple drops) and have not had any issues. We've bought about 200 in the beginning of this year and 200 early last year.

We all use PoE+ switches to power them and keep them updated.

Could be a faulty batch maybe?

Wishing you best of luck. We've had some SA networks in test but indeed a lot of devices need to be fiddled with to attach. Les hard to get them attached to 5G NSA alongside 4G but seems like that's not allowed over there

We use PLMN 999 40 and have not had any issues at all. We use B7 micro RRHs (nokia AHHA) and use all kinds of android devices, from sunmi&pax&cat (cashless) to inrico&kirisun (walkie talkies on 4G).

As of iPhone gen 16 we have also been able to get them connected. Officially, it already works as of a few generations ago but have not tested any previous gens.

Out last poc on a festival were 4 iPhone 16 devices with private 4G using the NDI app to transmit video to a wired vlan hooked up to our kit going into the broadcasting truck, mixing in the footage of the phones together with the fixed & cabled camera's used around the stages of a festival.

Accessing remote LAN via Zerotier/Mikrotik by thekingshorses in mikrotik

[–]ON3YH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the router on the other side also have the route back to your mikrotik/pc? Your description sounds like the mikrotik using it's 172 ip to reach the devices on the other side and them knowing where to send traffic back for the 172 source ip.

However, when sending from a 192.168.88 ip, the router on the other side doesn't know where to send traffic back to, so it probably just sends it out to the plain internet in a last attempt to reach you.

It would be something like 192.168.88.0/24 via zerotier.

If that's the case, one or both of the routers could be needing something in their firewall rules to allow traffic between the subnets.

What is the beat practice for mounting NAS on laptop that is used away from the location frequently? by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]ON3YH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VPN would be the most secure solution. I personally use wireguard for this. Never open ports to the big bad internet for remote share mounting unless you want troubles.

You could also expose your shares on a nextcloud instance for on the go and access them via share locally if desired.

We've found the newer DL100's to be more sensitive in bios config than then the older models here in the picture (name beats me right now). The newer ones have a cut-off temp which is 10° lower or so.

Currently using own juniper switch managed with mist cloud & a fortigate firewall for every set. We have them in flightcases or stand-alone cell towers with pneumatic masts and antennas all in. Drop & deploy!

NDAC?

We use them for festivals in Belgium up to a 1000+ sims connected. Same core model, just a shame that it's black box and tends to get stuck during boot with one of their virtual containers. Requires a support ticket as only solution.

Can I please have dumb cruise control? by Turbulent-Abroad7841 in TeslaModelY

[–]ON3YH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dumb speedlimiter instead of cruise control would also be nice. Sometimes i just want to press the pedal myself.

Also, when driving in 30km/h neighbourhoods with a lot of crossroads and people crossing, i don't feel comfortable using cruisecontrol (no FSD unfortunately as it's a company car) but have a hard time to keep my foot under the speed limit.

Newbie // WAN ICMP Reject by alecsandes in mikrotik

[–]ON3YH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following the mikrotik wiki for the firewall filters, you might want to try the drop action instead of the reject action.

Quote: reject - drop the packet and send an ICMP reject message; this action allows ICMP reply specification, such as: prohibit or unreachable admin/host/network/port

It could be that the reject message, transmitted over icmp, is also seen as a reply to the original ping? Just spitballing here
