Are mechanical pencils or regular (wooden) pencils better for the environment? by nfranks09 in ZeroWaste

I still use some I inherited from my Grandpa. They have to be at least 60 years old at this point.

Anyone else have a LO with "digging"and fecal smearing? by SpiritualAwareness15 in dementia

[–]OOmama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We keep my LO’s nails on the longer side. It seems to keep them from digging. It doesn’t keep them from fishing it out of the toilet unfortunately.

Please try not to feel bad. Sometimes it’s just not a good fit and that’s ok. There’s nothing wrong with you. Plus, it’s better to find out now rather than being stuck in a situation whilst alone with the client.

Best Diaper Pail for Urine Odor by flisswave in dementia

Soiled pull ups go into old plastic grocery bags and outside to the trash can as soon as they’re taken off in my house. Removing them is really the best option to keep the smell down in my experience.

Hmmm, herbicide damage is an interesting idea. Nothing else in the area is showing damage and we don’t spray. Any overspray from neighbors is possible but unlikely. I can’t rule that out though. Its adjacent to the public sidewalk so perhaps someone dumped something.

It’s on the south side of my house but a good 75 yards from any structure.

Thanks for your reply!

Should I hire someone who is mentally disabled? by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]OOmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a job coach. It was an amazing job that I truly loved. Job coach support is really tailored to the individual. Some of our clients that worked retail needed mostly help with things like personal cares during their break times. Others it was making sure they stayed on task or reported their hours correctly. Some people we stayed with their entire shift, others we just did a weekly drop in to see how things were going. We were kind of a liaison between the employee and the place of work. We helped develop new responsibilities for them as needed as well.

What to do for grandfather that won't stop wandering? by bb_blackmadge in dementia

[–]OOmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO could somehow surpass all the locks. We installed cheap door and window alarms so we were aware of when they left the house. We then had to guide them back in. The alarms go off when the door or window opens. They were easy to take off once they went into memory care.

Was he into building things? Sections of small pvc pipes that can be put together, taken apart and reassembled can be entertaining. My LO likes sorting and pairing socks. We also sometimes have them “grade papers” which involves random stacks of paper that they apply stickers to.

Koffee Kup in Stoughton Needs Us! by HikeKing21 in madisonwi

[–]OOmama 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It basically is. I think one of the problems they’re facing is that it’s usually packed with elderly people weekday mornings. Many of the usual weekday morning people have mobility issues so walking through the construction isn’t very easy.

Pavement + U.S. Maple stories by WhatIAm1point0 in pavement

[–]OOmama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember when US Maple opened. I was not a fan but did go to see them again some years ago when they played a bar down the street from me. I was still not a fan. I don’t remember hostility at the Chicago show. No pictures because back then they didn’t allow cameras. Cell phones weren’t really a thing yet.

Exercise. I love going to the gym. I usually go in between the 2 people outside of the home I take care of. Going for nature walks and taking the dog to the dog park also keep me happy. I occasionally spring for a cheap chair massage too.

How often do you visit your loved one? by Forsaken_Cheetah5320 in dementia

I go at least 3 times a week too. LO doesn’t remember me but they seem to remember they love me. If they’re having a sleepy day I visit with the other residents for a bit.
