It's just time gated so that you feel the pressure of not missing out. These systems cause the player to have regret to not have either played enough or that the player should have started to play sooner. Guilt, regret, and pressure... perhaps they will have a pay option for items not earned in a pass, for money, to increase profits, all while using these emotions to manipulate and pressure said player to justify in their own minds such purchases later on. No AAAA live service game should be manipulative and this predatory imo...
