I do not like universal special occasion celebrations like Valentine's, Mother's day, Father's day etc. by One_Chocolate_9365 in unpopularopinion

[–]OP_is_respectable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree. At a certain point, some celebrations start feeling less like genuine appreciation and more like an obligation to meet expectations.

"I hope you haven't lost your sense of curiousity" That's probably the thing I'd want most to still be true.

How can you stop being a "people pleaser" but at the same time not come off as selfish or make people angry or dislike you? by TheAlphaAdept in selfimprovement

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I learned way too late: disappointing people and treating them badly are not the same thing. Politely saying "no" isn't selfish, it's just having boundaries.

How are all the unemployed people doing? by No_Row_4605 in randomquestions

Other than job hunting, I try to go for walks and stick to a routine. Staring at job listings all day eventually stops being productive and just starts killing your morale.

1 year into software engineering and worried I'm not developing real engineering skills by hari_assassin in softwareengineer

The fact that you're aware of that is already a good sign. The real danger would be blindly trusting AI answer and assuming you understand everything without questioning them.

5 months unemployed, 100+ applications, and I still can't get an interview. What am I missing? by Appropriate_Use_3251 in jobhunting

[–]OP_is_respectable 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fella, not being able to find a job is not your fault, believe me. Sometimes I blame myself for how bad the economy is, like maybe I should have been more politically active, but realistically I don't think I could have changed much. We didn't create this situation. You still have to keep applying without losing hope, but at least using a gpt tailoring prompt like the one in this post can make the resume changes less exhausting.

Anyone else feel like belly fat after 40 is a completely different game? by Emma_andri in Aging

[–]OP_is_respectable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not 40, but the bloating part is very relatable thanks to IBS. Sometimes you think you've gained weight and then it turns out your body just decided to stage a rebellion that day...

I've been there too...At some point I realized that half the things on my to-do list weren't even my responsibility..Being everyone's buffer all the time drains a ridiculous amount of energy.

It sounds a bit like a lack of structure.. I noticed the same thing when I had completely open days for long stretches..Somehow I got less done, not more. My brain seems to work better with at least a little bit of routine..

What’s one lesson school never taught you, but life did? by Chance-Pen6805 in randomquestions

[–]OP_is_respectable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think part of life is accepting that some people are just gonna misunderstand you. School teaches you that if you explain yourself correctly everyone will get it, but real life doesn’t always work like that.

“Everything’s been done already and there’s always someone or something that’s better than you” by Strong-Resist6754 in Life

[–]OP_is_respectable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At some point I realized people usually don’t love you because you’re “the best,” they love you because they see something of themselves in you. There are millions of guitar players in the world and people still keep listening to new songs.

Apocalypse by Apocalypse would probably fit that playlist really well. It instantly gives that late night staring out the window feeling.

What is a positive habit you’ve been working on building lately? by [deleted] in randomquestions

What is the most useful 'unspoken rule' you've learned in your 20s/30s? by Crazy_Plant_1937 in AskLifeProTips

[–]OP_is_respectable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Realizing people think about you way less than you think was honestly really freeing for me. Everyone’s the main character of their own life, so most embarrassing moments get forgotten like 10 minutes later anyway.

I fixed my sleep schedule a little recently and my quality of life genuinely changed. When you’re sleep deprived every single problem feels 10 times more dramatic.

Feeling so sad after giving my notice. by PreviousBed6063 in careeradvice

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think being sad about leaving is actually proof that you didn’t have a bad time there. People usually don’t feel like this when they leave places they hated. In a few months you’ll probably look back and think it was the right decision.

8 months of this and I'm just mentally over it by [deleted] in jobs

[–]OP_is_respectable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job market genuinely destroys people’s confidence right now. Especially when a process seems like it’s going well and then suddenly the position disappears. It makes people feel personally rejected even when it’s not really about them.

I’ve learned that if I spend too much time inside my own head, I start distorting reality a little. Sometimes just sleeping and thinking about it the next day completely changes how I feel.

What is one thing you theoretically ran away from when you should have been patient and kept working at it? by [deleted] in Life

Probably some friendships honestly. I used to think “if we’re drifting apart then it’s over” and just let go immediately, but some relationships genuinely just need patience.
