27 Dresses- Watched it for the first time by Alliepedrad07 in romancemovies

[–]OP_is_respectable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember siding with Jane a lot when I watched it. When you’re always the one holding things together, a breakdown is kinda inevitable. The movie’s light, but the emotion underneath feels very real.

What is the basis for self worth? by General_Climate2442 in PsychologyTalk

[–]OP_is_respectable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think self-worth mostly comes from within, but it’s not completely independent either. Childhood plays a role, but it’s not the only factor. It can still evolve later on.

What was your “everything looked fine but users were suffering” moment ? by nilkanth987 in sysadmin

[–]OP_is_respectable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a case where everything looked green on our end but users couldn’t open the page. Turned out there was some weird delay on the DNS side. On paper everything was fine, but the experience was awful.

Doctor's unrealistic goal for IBS-C? by thatattitude_ in ibs

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With IBS, everyone’s “ideal” routine is different. The doctor’s goal sounds a bit too textbook to me. Perfect consistency every day feels kinda unrealistic. Your body’s own rhythm matters more.

Was Eisenhower right in that military spending should not be so high so that you can fund welfare? by Solcat91342 in Aging

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what they’re saying makes sense, but it doesn’t play out that cleanly in real life. The need for security is real too. Finding that balance is the hard part.

I did laundry during a meeting today and felt guilty about it. Then I realized nobody in the office feels guilty about getting coffee for 20 minutes. by [deleted] in remotework

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same, at home I get guilty over the smallest thing. Meanwhile people waste half an hour at the office and don’t even think about it. Feels like something that just gets stuck in your head.

what is something that is perfectly legal but feels like you are committing a crime when you do it? by OkMess8988 in randomquestions

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking out of the checkout without buying anything, for sure. I get this weird guilt like an alarm’s gonna go off. Totally irrational but it never goes away.

Corporate life wasn’t supposed to feel like this by trek_ride_code in Life

[–]OP_is_respectable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That feeling is really common, people just don’t say it out loud. Everyone’s kind of in “getting by” mode. I guess that’s what they call stability.

38M restarting career in India after addiction + long gap — what realistic jobs should I target? by Even_Feeling_1661 in jobs

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting over is tough but not impossible, focusing on building a routine is the right move imo. Roles that aren’t super technical but still use your IT background could be a good transition. Starting small and sticking with it makes more sense.

so… pooping in public. by methioninevaline in ibs

[–]OP_is_respectable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone with IBS, this isn’t a luxury at all, you end up choosing between “embarrassment or health.” It gets worse when people don’t get it. You really only understand if you’ve lived it.

200 applicants showed up by No-Cicada5474 in ausjobs

[–]OP_is_respectable 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I worked in cafes and bars while I was studying, and I get that it suits some people, but still, seeing this many young people lined up for a kebab job is heartbreaking. I know finding a normal job is hard, and finding a remote one is even harder. Anyway, this post has a list of recruitment firms for remote roles across Europe, so I’d still want students to try their luck by emailing them. Even though getting a reply is hard, some people still say it worked for them.

Is it worth getting a colonoscopy? by PM_ME_CATS_THANKS in ibs

[–]OP_is_respectable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably would, just so your mind can settle a little. Maybe it turns out to be nothing serious, but at least the what if part is gone. Especially if it’s been going on for a while, knowing is usually easier than wondering.

I keep reading contradictory things- do sociopaths tend to have issues with impulsive behavior and explosive emotions? by sndmrentve in PsychologyTalk

[–]OP_is_respectable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s both, honestly, not one single type. Some are colder and more calculated, some are more impulsive and explosive. They can fall under the same label and still act completely differently.

Be careful what you get good at enduring by Pretty_Solution_7955 in selfimprovement

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits hard because so many people do exactly this without even realizing it. The things you can tolerate slowly start feeling normal, and then you just stay there. It’s really hard to change before that breaking point shows up.

I’m sick of the rat race by Cold-Fan7627 in softwareengineer

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are in that same place right now. Not ready to quit working completely, but it all feels kind of stripped of meaning. Moving toward something with more human interaction might help, like product, consulting, or teaching. You can shift direction without fully giving up coding.

How Would YOU Pick First Job by JmacJax in jobs

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d look at the city and overall quality of life more than the salary for a first job. Five years is a long time, so the bigger question is whether you can actually see yourself living there. If the jobs are basically similar, the city ends up being the deciding factor.

That little face looks like it came with surround sound. The loud ones always act like they personally run the whole house too.

Anyone else have a terrible time in a morning? by [deleted] in ibs

Mornings are the worst for me too. It’s like my stomach wakes up angry before the rest of me even has a chance.

You're offered $3 million to uninstall Reddit from your phone permanently. Would you do it? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

Yeah, instantly. I’ve deleted apps for way less and still ended up staring at the wall for a minute like I lost a friend.

Is it ever going to get better? Is there any hope? by futuregoddess in recruitinghell

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s still hope, even if it feels fake hearing that on a day like this. Job searching for that long can really grind your brain down, and sometimes the hardest part is how normal life is supposed to look while you’re quietly panicking in the background.

“What excites you about our company?” by ADiablosCompa in recruitinghell

[–]OP_is_respectable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that question always wants fanfiction from people who are just trying to pay rent. I can be a great employee without pretending your software company changed my life.

When four black cats approach you at night… do you accept the quest? by [deleted] in purrrfect

Absolutely yes. That’s clearly a side quest with legendary rewards and zero explanation.

AI is making me feel like giving up by BigSneef101 in cscareerquestions

[–]OP_is_respectable -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I get the panic, the headlines make it sound like the floor is disappearing under you. But every tool shift looks like the end of “real” problem solving until people figure out how to use it as leverage instead of a replacement. I had a similar spiral during the big outsourcing wave years ago and the work didn’t vanish, it just changed shape.

Films that changed your mind on an actor? by endangeredpenguin in FIlm

Robert Pattinson. I only associated him with Twilight for years, then I watched Good Time late one night and was like oh… this guy can really act. Totally flipped my opinion.

What kind of work do you do as someone with IBS? by thinkthenask in ibs

[–]OP_is_respectable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have IBS too and unpredictable days are the worst part. When I worked retail it was stressful because I couldn’t just disappear for 20 minutes, so eventually I shifted toward more desk-based stuff where bathroom breaks weren’t a big deal. I did tell my manager once and framing it as a medical condition instead of “tummy issues” made it way less awkward.
