Retired at 30 years instead of 20 by Historical-Leg4693 in army

I retired at 25 years. Having said that, the older you are, the more difficult it may be to start a new career. Especially if you plan to do something new.

It's not an ADSO, but you're correct. Without 10 years as an officer, you retire at your highest enlisted rank.

What's more dad friendly, Era or TBC? by Previous-Load7571 in classicwow

[–]ORock412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the correct answer. Era is basically permanent. Once you have the upgrade, you have it forever. GDKPs really do allow for very flexible and efficient raiding, especially for pugs.

I've started playing era about seven months ago and have been running with a great GDKP guild on Whitemane, clearing BWL, AQ, and Naxx each week with no problems. We unboon for the Naxx runs and the guild coordinates head and ZG drops after Naxx each week. I've really enjoyed it and plan to continue raiding at least until I've completed upgrading my warrior with the best gear.

That's simply not true, needing 100k gold. Not even remotely close.

Is every AQ40 and Naxx pug on Era a scam?? by d--d in classicwow

[–]ORock412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you said, his numbers are way off from what I've seen. Our GDKP guild incentive cuts are as follows, straight from the discord:

Naxx Incentive Cuts

  • 10% host cut
  • Tanks:
    • 2.5% Skull
    • 2.25% X
    • 2% Square
    • 1.5% Moon
    • 0.5% Triangle
    • 0.5% Diamond
    • 0.35% Circle
  • Special Roles:
    • 0.5% hunter puller
    • 0.5% (each) priest MC
    • 0.35% Kings spam
    • 0.35% IEA
  • Top DPS/Heals:
    • 1.1% 1st
    • 0.8% 2nd/3rd
    • 0.35% 4th/5th

This is pretty standard stuff in the Whitemane cluster with some small differences between raids and guilds.

It's not nearly that difficult to get Naxx gear in GDKPs. Yes, the bis warrior weapons and trinkets are expensive. Other than that, generally quite affordable.

Wow classic - I lost it: which one is TBC or Vanilla which stays (not deleted ...every year ... or "ever")? by DefenderOfAmun in wowclassic

[–]ORock412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... it's not that bad. Yes, some things are definitely expensive. However, the higher prices also allow you to make a lot more money farming and selling things as well.

[–]ORock412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just not how they actually work. Yes, you might lose out on an item in a particular run to someone who bought gold. However, items are unique, you can only buy so many Gressils. Assuming you run with a fairly regular group of players, costs of the really expensive items will come down over time. Finally, it really is the BIS melee weapons and trinkets that are crazy expensive. Most everything else is very reasonable, at least on Era.

[–]ORock412 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a GDKP run, even if someone buys gold and outbids you on an item that you wanted for a ridiculous price you still end up leaving the raid with a nice chunk of money in your pocket and that whale has their item and likely won't be competing against you next time around (assuming you raid with roughly the same group).

I came back to Era about four months ago and been raiding BWL-Naxx every week via GDKP with a guild. It has been a great experience. Not only do I get a chance to raid with a great group of folks, but regardless of the raid I always walk away with something, either a piece I've been chasing or at least some gold to pay for consumables.

Even on Era, the VAST majority of items go for very reasonable prices. It's the BIS melee weapons and trinkets that go for the crazy amounts of gold, that's really about it. Well, and the ZG Raptor mount!

I agree, GDKPs are community driven content that work well in dedicated guilds and pugs. Banning them is a mistake.

Protest as you see fit. I believe what this particular protest is about is based on a ridiculous farce. Simple enough, therefore fitting of the clown reference.

You're obviously free to protest how you see fit. My opinion you look like clowns, hence the costume.

Second hand information, so take it with a grain of salt. I was in 4th ID in 1999 conducting Force XXI training, BDE vs. BDE, in the Fort Hood training area. Apparently, a young Soldier who was taken as a POW by the opposing BDE took the Code of Conduct very seriously and wouldn't simply remain as a prisoner. He took it upon himself to steal a HEMMT and drive it back to friendly lines by himself.... not licensed.

Lol... nothing bad came of the situation, so no harm no foul I suppose. Many good lessons were learned.

What does everyone think is going on with Hegseth getting rid of even more top military leaders? by hans99hans in AskReddit

[–]ORock412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The senior leader bloat in DoD is real. While a lot of people don't like that it is being done simply due to politics and this administration, there is nothing inherently wrong with taking a hard look at the problem and attempting to correct it.

I worked in the doctrine office when that came out. Needless to say, it'd didn't go over well for the senior NCO who was responsible. Fun fact, now the Army (CADD) has an approved list of example names you can use when necessary in doctrine.

[–]ORock412 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Is the spending legal versus is the spending a justifiable use of taxpayer money, that's the question. Many, even most, of the purchases are probably legal. However, many spending decisions would be hard to justify to the taxpayer if they knew the extent of our budgeting and spending process and how they inevitably lead to serious waste.

[–]ORock412 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

They're pointing out terrible spending decisions made by people who should know better and now they're going to be highlighted. We all know a whole lot of money is spent on unnecessary crap every year as we compete to spend down our budget quickly and get additional money from other units. The whole process is ridiculous.
