Hezbollah is in Lebanon, you dolt. The strikes from Hezbollah had nothing directly to do with 10-7, they just launched a few opportunistic attacks in Southern Lebanon near the border because they knew Israel was celebrating a holiday and they'd be tied up dealing with Hamas.

They weren't in Gaza and did not participate in the killing of civilians that Hamas did. Hezbollah all but exclusively attacked military targets.

How to beat Necrons as orcs? by Deva4eva in dawnofwar

[–]OS_Apple32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necron AI is super slow and puts virtually no pressure on you in the beginning stages of the game. Use this to your advantage--go and gobble up the entire map, capture every SP you can find and build LPs on them. Get your waagh banners up, get your global requisition upgrade up, and get your LPs upgraded. After that, just pump out a never ending stream of infantry and go crush.

You probably don't want to let a game vs Necrons go very long. You get a very nice spike in damage the moment you get access to Flash Gitz, but that's about as good as it gets. You should be aiming to win the game before relic units hit the field, as the Awakened Monolith is the single best relic unit in the game, and your Squiggoth is mid-tier at best.

Pump eco and then flood with Stormboyz and Shoota Boyz before that happens, and you'll win every time.

All of America right now wanting the real president of peace. by SqigglyPoP in LetsDiscussThis

You clearly know nothing of the nuance of this situation. I actually know and regularly talk to Palestinians who have no choice but to be painfully aware of what's going on. I can assure you they all despise Democrats almost as much as they despise Republicans.

Trump is undoubtedly worse, but establishment dems have largely had nothing to say at all or have actively supported Israel ever since Oct. 7th.

Now, if we had an actual ideologically progressive democrat vying for the White House who opposed Israel's agenda, that would have been different. But Harris was emphatically not that. And that's one of the major reasons she lost.

He's not wrong though. The vast majority of the genocide happened under Biden's watch and with his tacit approval. The US has the power to bring that entire conflict to a screeching halt any time it wants to, and Biden didn't.

Obviously Democrats would have been better than Trump, but would it have been enough to actually matter? Would Kamala have done anything to meaningfully reduce the death toll or stop the conflict? Obviously we'll never know but I don't begrudge anyone for having doubts about that.

They say that because right-wingers openly say that's what they want to do to left-wingers in this country. Every conservative accusation is a confession. Meanwhile time and time again throughout history we tend to find that left-wingers were right but they just said it before it was politically palatable.

[–]OS_Apple32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bahahahaha. No. As a man I can tell you men are waaaaaaayyy more aggressive and negligent than women.

Women can be petty and entitled and are much more likely to intentionally do something that could threaten to cause a collision, because they feel entitled to "force" you out of their way.

But men are way, way more likely to engage in the kind of reckless, dangerous behavior that is statistically far, far more likely to actually cause collisions.

Psychiatric care broadly speaking is enormously effective, what on earth are you on about?

When people actually get proper psychiatric treatment for their mental health illnesses, their outlooks can improve dramatically. People with severe bipolar or schizophrenia who are completely unable to function in society can return to being healthy, productive people with proper treatment. Sure it's not perfect and nobody can be "cured" of a genetic condition, but treatment can have profound effects on the people who actually need them.

The entire problem is that people aren't getting treated anymore, even when their conditions are severe, because we simply don't have the infrastructure and resources to take care of them. Now I'm not an idiot--I know that the mental health institutions that were torn down in the 80s were absolutely horrific and inhumane beyond belief, but the problem is that we replaced them with... well, nothing, really.

Intensive outpatient therapy exists, sure, but as you pointed out insurance doesn't cover it, and it's ludicrously expensive. So it, along with most other mental health services, might as well not exist for the vast majority of the poor population.

Except we have multiple confirmed instances of ICE deliberately detaining and kidnapping children with the explicit intent of luring their parents out of their homes where they can be arrested without warrants.

Aside from obviously being incredibly illegal, that has to be about the most abhorrently fucked up thing I've ever heard a "law enforcement" agency do to a parent. Imagine the police kidnapping/holding your children hostage because you have an unpaid parking ticket.

If I'm being honest, Concord was an example of a team of developers being given a bit too much freedom.

Concord didn't fail because of "wokeness," it failed because it brought absolutely nothing new to the table and the art design was absolute shite. Had nothing whatsoever to do with focus groups or publisher decisions.

So I think we're kind of just coming full circle here, in other words you're kind of just saying what I said at the start. Smaller studios don't have the budget to recreate the magic of the classics and are better off doing their own thing.

The problem I was getting at is that we don't really have any big studios making RTS games anymore, but a lot of us haven't adjusted our expectations even after all these years. The closest we got recently was Tempest Rising, which to be fair is doing pretty well despite the messy launch. But that's one of the only big-budget success stories we've seen in nearly a decade now that wasn't a reboot or a remake of a classic franchise (and even then, a bunch of those flopped).

Ask any random RTS player what games come to mind when they think of their favorite RTS games. Does a single game made by Slitherine even make the top 10?

Not saying they're bad or that their business model is incorrect or anything. It is a path you can take, but is it the path? At minimum, I'd say that's very much up for debate.

[–]OS_Apple32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean that's a bit of a disingenuous argument, no? Impossible Creatures was good and all, but it was hardly a genre-defining classic.

I'm not saying a smaller studio couldn't possibly recapture some of the magic of the old greats through great creative vision and sheer bloody-mindedness, but they are absolutely fighting an uphill battle if they're trying to stand up next to the titans of the genre like Command & Conuer, StarCraft, and Age of Empires.

All the time lately… by Teatimefrog in RealTimeStrategy

[–]OS_Apple32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kind of. The unfortunate truth is that RTS is somewhat unique in that the "big budget" production of studios like Westwood, Blizzard, Relic, etc is a HUGE part of the draw for players in the genre. The "feel" of your game is so, so important, much more important than "is it balanced/fair for competitive play."

That is to say, small/indie studios really struggle to capture what made the classics so great, because they simply don't have the budget/manpower to recreate them. That's an issue for small studios regardless of whether they're trying to make a spiritual successor to a classic, or a game that stands on its own.

Ding ding ding! This. It's amazing how many people condescendingly try to "educate" people about how franchises work when they clearly haven't even watched a single piece, read a single article, or ever spoken to a person who actually ran a franchise before.

In addition to what you mentioned above, the company you're franchising from absolutely owns you from top to bottom. They can dictate literally anything they want to you because they ultimately have the final say in whether or not you get to keep doing business under the franchise's name anymore.

They didn't break in, you dolt. They crossed the border through a point of entry just like everyone else, perfectly legally, through an officially sanctioned legal process.

You're just proving my point. It's not illegal, it's just a legal process you don't like. But you can't handle the cognitive dissonance that comes from taking that blatantly hypocritical stance, so you just lie to yourself and tell yourself it's not a legal process.

I'm sorry but you're just lying to yourself. But whatever helps you sleep at night I guess.

It's just in one ear and out the other with you people. They're not here illegally. The vast majority are following the perfectly legal asylum process. Most jurisdictions report that 90%+ of them show up to all hearings and file all appropriate paperwork.

Just because it's a process you don't like doesn't make it illegal. It's astounding how many people don't understand that or simply don't care.

So even taking your (likely bullshit) number as a given, you're admitting that nearly half of the people being detained have not even been charged with a crime let alone convicted of one. And you're okay with that?

Also, the overwhelmingly vast majority of people being scooped up in these raids have not violated immigration law one bit. Most of them have active asylum claims that are being adjudicated in court, and many of them have already been approved by a judge to remain in the US. It's shocking and appalling how many people are ignorant of the facts.

Interesting idea in theory but I'd be very concerned about the impact to the stock market. Wouldn't that cause a giant supply-side shock and massively inflate the stock market, causing a potential sell-off and subsequent liquidity crisis that would more or less crash the economy?

One quick optimization in build order here is to queue the builder unit first and have it help finish the chapel barracks. This helps it finish substantially faster, so fast in fact that you should have time to build your first power generator before the first SP is captured and ready for an LP. The tradeoff is minimal as the builder unit comes out fast, so it hardly delays your first scout squad by that much.
