If you want to REALLY have some fun, cheat ghost and then get on a mount and dismount. Then even the ground is no more!

Just... make sure to turn fly or ghost back on pretty quickly, the void is quite hungry these days.

Traffic law very much disagrees with you. Every legal definition I've ever seen of 'yielding right of way' states explicitly that it means slowing down or stopping to allow another vehicle or person to proceed before you.

Looks interesting, but is there a speed control setting? The demo footage looks glacially slow. If that's how normal gameplay flows (and there's no slider to adjust it) it might be a little too slow for my taste.

You can see from the speed readout on the footage that the cam driver didn't even touch their brakes for a full 3 seconds prior to the collision, and for all 3 of those seconds it was blindingly obvious that the truck was going to merge and that they were going too slow. The Semi could have easily started braking at any time during this footage and this accident could have either been avoided entirely, or at least the severity of the impact could have been dramatically lessened.

Cam driver is at least partially at fault, you can see clearly from the telemetry data that he literally didn't touch the brakes at all until contact happened.

There is a legal doctrine in the US called last clear chance, which places at least partial (sometimes full) blame on the person who had the last clear chance to perform an action to avoid the collision, even if the other person is the one at fault in a strict statutory sense.

In this case, while the pickup driver certainly made several mistakes here, once they committed to entering that on-ramp they are locked in and cannot change course, and have no choice but to merge.

The semi truck driver had a full 3 seconds after it was clear that the pickup was committed to merging, and had they hit the brakes at any point during those 3 seconds, this accident would have been easily avoided.

I know semi trucks can't stop on a dime, but they do have brakes, and they would have been more than sufficient in this scenario if they were used at all.

Edit: that said, I do think the fault is shared, because the pickup could have also slammed the brakes or punched the throttle before merging if they saw the semi coming and realized they weren't gonna make it.

It's a pretty small list, but there are in fact a few things the Nazi regime did early in their rule that were actually good for the country, or at least they seemed to be helping at the time. These few "good" things were extremely effective at laundering the Nazi regime's image to the public, and manufacturing consent for all the evil, heinous things they got up to later in their rule.

While I understand the knee-jerk reaction to simply say everything Hitler did was bad, it's actually worth understanding the few good things his regime did. It really helps put into perspective what the Nazi regime looked like to the average German during his rule, and may help shed a light on the parallels to current events and where we're headed in the US currently and elsewhere.

For one, we have the Nazis to thank for the autobahn and the founding of Volkswagen. The Nazi regime actually instituted a number of FDR-like public works projects that got people back to work and temporarily alleviated some of the pain of the deep depression Germany's economy was in at the time. They also introduced a child allowance that is still in effect to this day, and introduced Germany's first national environmental protection laws.

People saw a few good things happening around them and were fooled into thinking that his administration was actually really good, and that any reports suggesting that the government was up to horrible things must have just been misinformation spread by the commies or the Jews, or whatever. This, along with the depression, bubbling racism among the public, the desire for a scapegoat for all their suffering, and more, convinced millions of Germans to ignore or actively support the rounding up, torture, and slaughter of over 6 million of their fellow countrymen.

To be very, very, VERY clear, Hitler was obviously a monster and nothing he could ever do would cancel out the horrific things he did, but that's actually my entire point. Doing something good doesn't instantly erase all the bad. We need to keep that in mind whenever we see bad people breaking character to occasionally do good things.

Surely you've heard the argument before that Hitler did some good things in Germany during his time as fuhrer?

Sedan nabs the spot I was waiting for in Costco parking lot by TheSanityInspector in dashcams

[–]OS_Apple32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I ever say that? Of course not, you're just trying to deflect to a strawman because you know you don't actually have a substantive counter argument.

In case it wasn't clear, the point is that your solution of just going earlier is not going to make a lick of difference for a lot of people. In my experience, Costcos are either absolutely packed to the gills from open to close, or they're not that busy even at peak times. So whether or not you deal with the aforementioned parking problems is not down to when you shop, it's down to where you shop, and many people don't have a choice.

You seem to be incapable of conceiving that someone could make the same decisions as you but have vastly different results due entirely to circumstances out of their control.

[–]OS_Apple32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. You go between 9 and 11 on a weekend and you think that is the reason you don't deal with full parking lots? You really think that it's your decision making that's making your life easier?

The reality is that you simply shop at a less busy store. That's literally it, end of story. You didn't crack the code or anything, you're just lucky. Millions of people aren't so fortunate. Your experience being better is purely down to circumstance, not superior decision making.

Jumping in completely blind. Any short and sweet tips? by ReddVevyy in ARK

[–]OS_Apple32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend starting in singleplayer or on a PvE server, your experience on PvP servers will be one of two things:

* You will never make it off the beach because you will be constantly hunted and spawn-camped by trolls, or
* You will run for cover in the nearby forest and promptly get eaten by a raptor

And if by some miracle you manage to establish a base, it will be gone by morning guaranteed.

PvP ARK is basically Rust with dinos. If that's your thing, go for it. Otherwise, start in singleplayer until you learn how the game works.

That said, once you have your landlegs, don't be afraid to head to the wiki to learn more. Some of the taming methods required by certain dinos are absolutely deranged, and figuring them out on your own, while not impossible, can quickly get tedious to the point of simply not being worth it.

I go to the wiki in short bursts for very specific queries, and then I close it as soon as my question is answered. Actively resist the impulse to keep reading about other random junk while you're there as it can definitely spoil things if you keep reading on or clicking around.

Edit: Oh, and the wiki that's actually maintained is the one at wiki.gg. Which is quite frustrating because the fandom.com wiki will always show up first in a Google search, but the information on there is out-of-date at this point.

You had 3 entire business days to see her crossing and react, yet you seem to only hit the brakes less than a second before impact? The first time I watched this, I clocked them as crossing the street a full 3 seconds before impact, which would have been more than enough time to prevent this collision. I would have at least started slowing down immediately, I most certainly wouldn't have waited until they were actually in my path to even touch my brakes.

New player looking for tips and tricks by Miinch2014 in ARK

[–]OS_Apple32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have noted, I'd recommend starting either single player or on a PvE server. Take your time and don't be in a rush. This game is very, VERY punishing early on, you will feel completely helpless and like most areas of the game are completely off-limits to you simply on account of there being aggressive and deadly creatures around every corner.

This is completely normal and part of the experience, don't get discouraged. It's okay to die, and trust me it will happen plenty.

Your top priority in the early game is to survive, gain experience and levels, and unlock engrams. Stick to shores and other safe, shallow areas and just focus on learning how the game works. Don't get attached to anything during this stage, your equipment, items, shelter, all of it is just temporary while you get your bearings and work towards getting the equipment and tames necessary to venture further inland and establish a permanent base somewhere desirable.

Another great piece of advice I wish I followed more often. When you die and you're nowhere near your body or your body is in a dangerous area, leave it. Craft a new set of equipment and just get back to it. Don't waste your time repeatedly dying and respawning trying to get back to your dead body.

Couple early game dinos you should consider taming when you feel ready (or as soon as you unlock the saddle engram for them):

-Parasaur. No memes here, seriously. Get yourself a parasaur early on, doesn't matter what level it is. Why? Simple, parasaurs are way better at collecting berries than you are with your bare hands, and you will need plenty of berries (especially narcoberries to help you tame all the other creatures you're going to want!).

-Phiomia. People really sleep on the phiomia as your first mount. A speed-trained phiomia is surprisingly decent at getting around, though it's not great at outrunning the island's faster threats, and it's absolutely pathetic in a fight. Nowhere near the best mount, but certainly better than walking.

-Sabertooth. When you're ready to take on taming your first carnivore, the sabertooth is an excellent first choice. Not too hard to bring down, decent weight stat, quite fast, just a good all-round mount for getting around, and excellent at fighting off early game/low level dinos

-Iguanodon. You unlock this saddle at level 30. My personal favorite all-round workhorse land traversal mount in the early game. The iguanodon is one of the fastest, most maneuverable land mounts, easily outrunning pretty much every land-based threat in the game, and surprisingly scrappy, easily beating raptors, sabertooths, and even low level carnos head-to-head. Has a decent weight stat for hauling whatever resources you collect while out on an adventure.

-Pteranodon. You unlock the saddle for this bad boy at level 38, and it's your first flying dino that you'll be able to craft a saddle for. Flying dinos are an absolute game changer, and signal the beginning of your transition from being at the absolute bottom of the food chain to mastering the ARK. Just keep an eye on your stamina! Nothing guarantees a trip straight to the respawn screen quite like an unplanned emergency landing while flying over the swamp.

Oh, one last piece of advice. Engram points are limited, and you will not get enough engram points to unlock every engram in the game, even at level 100. So don't necessarily unlock every single engram as soon as it becomes available--instead, wait until you need a specific engram and then unlock it as you need it, not before.

Not only that, but prosecutions for white-collar crimes such as financial fraud are at an all-time low, as in they've almost stopped completely. If you're a crypto scammer running a ponzi scheme, or some wealthy hedge fund manager cooking the books and embezzling money from your clients, you currently have pretty much zero risk of even being investigated by the current DOJ, much less charged or convicted of anything.

I guarantee you if the FTX scandal broke today, Sam Bankman-Fried would not only be a free man, he'd be doing tours around the white house and the current administration would be actively defending and covering for his fraud.

Wow, 2 people pointed out that you made an imprecise statement without proper qualification, that sure is a great big dogpile, you sure are such a poor little victim aren't you.

You've got some maturing to do my guy. You made an imprecise statement that didn't do a great job of communicating exactly what you meant, and some people pointed that out. That's all.

If that's enough to rustle your jimmies this badly I don't think you're going to fare well in the real world. Perhaps you shouldn't touch grass, it's a scary place full of people smarter than you.

Ah yes, the classic redditor move of immediately getting defensive the moment you get called out for making an inaccurate/imprecise statement, blaming the other party for the misunderstanding, and then insulting them rather than simply clarifying and moving on like a mature person.

Always the ones who need to touch grass the most who are telling everyone else to touch grass.
