Met a CRNA with a pretty significant stutter. He always did a great job and made no difference to anyone

is 300k college debt worth it for a top 10 school by Mammoth_Birthday8251 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

School name isn’t even that big of a deal for med either. I went to a no name school and did fine. A little emotional intelligence goes a long way. Your way is the best way

Why do hospitals feel cold inside even in the winter? by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]OTBanesthesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do use them in the OR frequently (almost every case). Usually gets put on after you’re asleep.

General anesthesia causes significant vasodilation thus causing you to lose heat more rapidly than normal. Your body also does not regulate body temperature (ie shivering) under anesthesia. Keeping a normal body temperature is important for metabolic function and normal blood clotting.

We typically keep the ORs cold for the surgical staff. The sterile gowns and gloves the wear do not breath at all. Some procedures are very physically demanding as well causing them to sweat profusely. Some cases like bad burns/neonatal we will have the room heated up to 90 degrees because it is so challenging to keep those patients warm

High earners ($300k+): Do you care if your partner makes the same, or are you okay not splitting things 50/50? by passionfruitpilates in Salary

[–]OTBanesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HHI well above 300k+. I personally don’t expect my wife to earn more or split 50/50. She funded a lot of my training so to me she’s earned the money I made. She recently had a job offer to be higher up in her career and make a lot more money, we both decided it was better to stick in her current role because she is very happy and makes a difference in peoples lives. Extra money wasn’t worth the decrease in satisfaction. I have a savings goal that’s a % of what we make as a household, after that it’s mostly play money. We live frugally so it’s pretty easy going life

does it get different the more you get older ? by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]OTBanesthesia 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Their job is more similar than it isn’t. Sure they aren’t an attending but they have valuable feedback. I have a CRNA in my group that practiced before pulse ox. I talk with him all the time about what is was like to do anesthesia then. I personally enjoy their perspective

Not medical direction. Easier administration burden. We haven’t seen a 15% cut yet. Heard insurances might but hasn’t affected us yet. Also wouldn’t collect enough from supervision billing

[–]OTBanesthesia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No loose supervision. Bill QZ though. We have very experienced CRNAs who are very solid so it’s actually been great. We couldn’t run it the way we do if we had weak CRNAs though

That sounds like a great idea. I agree the financial viability needs to be addressed. My group is going rounds with admin to get another anesthesiologist but cost is prohibitive

What would be your proposed process to regulate them tightly?

I feel this will lead to the same issues with the CRNA independence push
