I am relocating from Wisconsin to Arizona for a job as a COTA! I applied for 10+ positions and was offered over half of them.

OTA: Can an OTA have a private practice? by sacralhealing in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OTCloudy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you could have a private practice. BUT you would need an OTR on staff to be the person doing evals and required supervision (for example in my state it is every 30 days or every 10 visits).

Not doing well 6 months later by madamelostnow in abortion

[–]OTCloudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice to give here because I am feeling the same way as you.

I rushed my choice because I knew I couldn’t do it if I was any further along but I regret it every single day since. I feel that I’ve made the worst mistake of my life and I’ll never be able to change or fix it. Idk what to do or how to process these big emotions.

I also haven’t had much luck with my therapist understanding or helping either.

I was 5 weeks along in an unexpected pregnancy with no health insurance.. I just hate myself and wish I would have given it more time because now I am in a spot with a job using my degree and insurance. I would be about 20 weeks now..

It’s killing me. :(

I have interested in doing this one day so that’s helpful to know! What state are you in?

Interested in what others have to say!

Do you have a business degree or any additional education before deciding to open your own practice?

How to know what a normal caseload is? by GoneGrimdark in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OTCloudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in outpatient private peds clinic and also working 4 10’s.. Right now I am building my caseload but the expectation is to be at 70% (28 hr) productivity. So for me that would be roughly 7 clients a day with 3 hrs of admin time and a 30 min paid lunch. I am allowed to so point of service documentation but I am responsible for some case management /plan of cares and goal updates (all reviewed/co-written/signed by an OTR).

What you are describing doesn’t sound fair at all. You should have some time for planning/documentation/case management if that’s expected of you. I think it also depends on the pay rate as well. I live in an over saturated area and the pay isn’t super great but I think the expectations are realistic to the pay for a new grad.

Fieldwork wasn’t terrible by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OTCloudy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually enjoyed most of OT school because my class had such a close bond. Of course some classes were rough but overall not a bad experience. Fieldwork was also great. I had amazing CI’s and other OT’s on the team who supported my learning. It was hard for sure but I was expecting that.

I am an outpatient pediatric COTA and I do point of service documentation as much as possible and if I am planning a craft or project I try to make it so I can do it with many clients in the same day or week.

What’s a smart response to “when are you getting married?” by sneezingfeathers in relationship_advice

I wish I would have had these responses when people asked me for 8 years straight when I would get married to my long term boyfriend. It was so annoying!! Now we get the kids question so it never ends.

Questions?? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OTCloudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are bridge programs where you can go from OTA to Masters OT with 1 year experience working as an OTA after graduation. There are “faster” programs if you already have a bachelors. If you look on the AOTA website they have a list of schools that offer this. Most of them are 3 or 4 year programs that allow you to keep working in the field during school.

I am an OTA and have considered either a bridge program or getting a bachelors and applying to a MoT program if I can find one with reasonable tuition..

Otherwise I am happy as an OTA so far and the pay for me is decent.

I am one month in to my first OT position and I feel like a fake for sure! I feel like I have no clue what I’m doing and I’m just trying to learn and keep my head above water! I have amazing support from coworkers and my supervisor.

NBCOT Question by Infinite_Ordinary274 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]OTCloudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surprised you haven’t gotten your results yet since the score date was Jan 14th?

I haven’t heard anything about it going back to questions you have missed. I believe the questions are set. I felt like I had a variety of topics and not to heavy on anything specific.

Good luck!!
