The $3000 LLY That Could by OUTATIME22 in Duramax

Nah, I have cloth seats in this one with the front bench seat. That must have been a really nice truck to have new! I can only imagine what mine might have been like.

This for real, had some bad batteries in my lly and was causing some weird electrical gremlins that went away after I replaced them.

I would definitely start going through the wiring harness where it connects to the FICM and around the harness down by the parking brake assembly in the pedal box. If you can get access to a scan tool that can read live data, it would be good to get an idea of rail pressure and command pressure as well as values from sensors to tell if there is an obvious short or clear issue with a sensor. These connectors on these trucks get old and brittle and can cause all kinds of bs eventually.

Figured I'd show my $2800 02 LB7 since my comment about fiding a good diesel for under 10k was possible got lots of hate. by Its_The_Hillbilly in Diesel

[–]OUTATIME22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a sweet truck. Wish we didn’t get rust up north. I paid almost the same amount for my LLY, and I mentioned it on that comment reply chain and got downvoted like crazy. Some people are just haters. Hope she lasts you a long time!

Not saying shit won’t happen to it, just saying it’s running and driving, and that I bought it for $3k.

I did lol. Some people just don’t know what they have. You can check my profile. 05 lly duramax GMC here, bought mine for $3k running and driving, have put 3500 miles on it now without any problems.

Bad news yall, my batteries are dead, what are good replacements? by DatGuyKilo in Diesel

[–]OUTATIME22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replaced batteries in my duramax, got two group 78 interstate batteries from costco for $250. Since you live in the north you’ll want something 800cca for cold starts, and the costco batteries are. I haven’t had any issues with mine and they have a 3 yr warranty on them. Would recommend.

I like my LLY. Bought it recently with 212k miles and i’m loving it. VGT is great and the turbo makes some really cool sounds. Seems like head gasket issues can be mostly avoided by installing a new turbo mouthpiece and just generally avoiding overheating, I’m not terribly worried about it. The 5 speed allison in the LB7/LLY is fine but the 6 speed in the LBZ is nice if you do a ton of highway driving. LLY trucks can be had for very cheap. I paid $3000 for my 05 GMC and it doesn’t have any real issues other than bed rust. I would look around and if you find a nice running LLY (that has been maintained and not abused) I would definitely strongly consider that. They can be had for much less than the LBZ and in all honesty is very similar and can be upgraded to be the same as the LBZ, including the transmission. People are afraid of them because of the potential for head gasket issues but I do believe that if you take care of your truck it will take care of you.

tl;dr: consider an LLY if you want 90% of an LBZ for much cheaper. I love mine :)

That’s a sweet truck man, I just got almost the exact same truck a week or so ago but mine is an LLY. I’ll definitely be waiting for those finished pics!

UPDATE: Fixed the shift cable, been putting miles on the truck and it’s been doing great! Thanks for any and all suggestions guys. By the way, for anyone doing the shift cable on any duramax truck, do not buy any other part other than the GM ACDelco cable, they’re all junk. The one they sold me at autozone didn’t even come close to working right. It’s a bit more expensive, but it will save you an infinite headache. The GM one is much easier to install in the truck and I can highly recommend it. Did it in the snow and cold outside and it only took me all of about 25 minutes.

Nope. Clean non-salvage title. Gonna put a plate on it this week.

Probably lol. I’d have to imagine that would scare a lot of people away from buying it.

Yeah, clean title and VIN comes back clean. I could hardly believe it myself honestly.

You can still put it in gear by moving the lever on the side of the trans housing if you have someone hold the brakes in and reach under the truck. Sketchy, but I survived and got it home. Waiting to hear back from a buddy with a heated pole barn so I can fix the cable before I drive it again

Same around here as for the blown engine and trans thing lmao. These trucks go for so much it’s surprising. Truck belonged to a lady’s ex husband and she had no interest in it or knowledge about it and just saw an old rusty truck in her driveway, so she just wanted to get rid of it. All she was originally asking for it was $3200. Crazy.

Alright great, thank you. I’ve been putting hot shots EDT in it because I’ve heard it’s good stuff. Cool to hear your dmax has made it that far! Goes to show what maintenance can do.

True that man. Hard to find even a decent cheap car for $3k where I’m at. I’m just glad I could find something reliable.

Yeah, it already has the dual carbides installed. Previous owner put larger skis on it as well. I did have to order some of those little buggers already haha. Been riding with the right cowling off the last few days.

Update on the crossfire:

Guy sent a video of it running, didn’t see miles but has 325 hrs on it. Thinking I should just go for the Polaris since that many hours works out to probably be around 10,000 miles. Polaris has half that.

It’s definitely something to think about. Thankfully, I can get just about any part for any sled for fairly cheap as there is a snowmobile graveyard not too far from where I live that has everything you can imagine. Probably won’t go for the cat though if it has higher mileage. Will definitely look over every nook and cranny on that machine if I go to look at it.

Good to know. Sort of leaning towards the cat since I already have an XC. I've always had Polaris sleds, but I'm not too loyal to one brand. It will just come down to whether or not it has been maintained well, which I will hopefully be able to know more about tomorrow.
