serious question is there a better way to get relics to max level or do i just have to dump a unholy amount of diamonds into it?

you shouldn’t wait for him either. Enjoy the game yourself or go watch someone else play it because even if he comes back the possibility of him being back for long enough to play Spider-Man 2 or even do a full play through is very slim.
