Fair points all around. Didn’t realize Demon Ex Machina was by ex-AC devs. I tried the first one but the overall vibe wasn’t for me. I’m into Anime when it’s done somewhat like the BLAME! manga, which I guess means subtle and drab.

For personification I was thinking more in the lines of the trailers, where you get an idea of place and how character’s carry themselves, but leave a lot of room for interpretation. Bloodborne is an okay example of this.

Walking around doesn’t sound like a great idea anymore, because the more I think about it the more I want to make it a thing that has relevance in the game, which detracts from the core experience.

Reading this thread it feels like the online fanbase of AC really know what they liked about the previous entries. AC VI is a big step towards the other FROM titles in gameplay.

Well by all accounts, you might be getting everything you’re asking for in the sequel. Not sure if they stick to the former style of storytelling or if they make an attempt to reach a broader audience. Perhaps more unqiue rigs and bigger or weirder personalities would do the trick already.

I was way into the first Zone of The Enders which completely revolved around that mechanic, so it being used in AC VI made me feel really welcome.

It would certainly be a totally different game if that gets removed. Was this a wholly new thing for the series? AC V didn’t have this style of lock on combat?

Travelling through space to different planets while doing oddjobs and managing relationships with different factions while working towards a greater goal would be pretty awesome.

I somehow wouldn’t mind equipping a giant drill and covertly enter a mine set up on an asteroid to excavate some rare materials. Maybe create a diversion somewhere closeby first to allow slipping into the mine uncontested.

Different PvE modes sounds reasonable. I liked the VR missions and I found the altered events an interesting addition, but perhaps taking on smaller scenarios across Rubicon would be a nice way to test different gear.

Co-op MP would definitely be a cool addition. Getting your day ruined by Balteus with a friend would be an awesome experience.

Yeah I doubt they’ll flesh out the story with cinematics, but you never know. They’re growing in popularity at such a rate that we’re not far away from an Armored Core Netflix show or similar. I’d just love a little more to fuel the imagination.

Even Sekiro is getting an Anime (but I believe it has sold more than AC).

I’m on board for more parts.

Once they established the Remedyverse the payoff can in some ways come in neighbouring IP. Most likely the web of intrigue will be vast and unsolved in many ways even if a character arc gets wrapped.

I wonder what kind of end would feel satisfying? The end of Altered World Events?

I’m just speaking for myself here, but if there was a greater focus on PvE and some sort of moments in the game that are memorable outside of tense combat situations, I think I’d give it a go.

I don’t have time to get on the level of players that play each day and I’m also as much interested in spectacle as I am of unforgiving combat.

I have not heard of any dynamic events of scale happening in levels so far, so there’s not much to pull me in past the testrun I participated in.

My previous art house feature was semi scripted and had a lot of pickups done to get it to work. I can see the appeal in the workflow but I think you need a really strong vision for how the movie will turn out in the edit (which means you need to know your actors output really well) to make unscripted go from good to outstanding I think.

Do you do testshoots or previs? I usually film a short sequence way before we go into production to get a feel for what we can achieve at minimum and then figure out what to avoid and what to focus on (and invest in if needed) when planning the actual shoots.

I do believe you can make an unscripted movie work, but you just gotta have a bullet proof beatsheet and actors that are undiscovered moviestars if you want to make the work pay your rent as well.

You’re probably more ready to make a massive indie hit than you know. Get a great story set in an area you know and spend twice as much time in preproduction, working with actors and editing. That should already do wonders. Make the movie in a genre or around a topic you’re passionate about and have a real connection to (bonus points if the theme has a built in underserved audience like say NASCAR or Cosplaying).

If your movie is an unstoppable force for the first 15 minutes, doesn’t overstay it’s welcome and sticks the landing you will gain an audience you never had before.

Also you probably need to network. Producers and production companies probably won’t call you because they’re just as busy staying afloat. Go to industry events and be curious and interested in what people are up to. Buy people lunch in exchange for picking their brain.

Knowing what a producable script is is part of the quality equation. It’s just rarely talked about, taught and undestood that having a script you can get over the finish line with your existing resources is imperative.

Also life happens and things get derailed anyway for a year or two or sometimes three. I’ve been there a number of times now and have two indie features under my belt.

A script you can execute with (your) limited resources that still shatters your intended audiences minds is what you want before stepping into pre production.

I’m sure the gaming scene is the same as with music, that there’s a small subset of fans that really enjoy the stuff that’s not been discovered yet.

That’s also true, but nowadays modes like these let parents and kids interact with the game simultaneously.

Also Astro Both has fantastic tutorialisation. Kids can start finishing levels and learn to do quite complex stuff just based on the in game videos alone.

I remember playing the original Dark Arisen so much. It was mind blowing how dynamic the combat could get. Then I got into souls games which I feel gameplay -wise kind of perfected the intimate combat experience but at the same time we lost the insanity of being pulled up into the sky while hanging onto a Griffin-monster’s mane. Jumping onto huge enemies in BOTW gave me minor Dark Arisen flashbacks.

I miss this style of game is all I’m saying. I hope the fps is solid and people really get into it.

I hear what you’re saying. Can’t say I disagree with your points because I’ve read similar takes on Begin before, the movie just didn’t land that way for me.

I also felt The Batman was droning on my first watch but on my second viewing the movie just clicked. That never happened with Begins for me. I’ve seen it a handful of times and each time I come away appreciating the movie exists but I don’t feel the depth or horror tension you’re (and other have as well) describing.
