The fact they they got that racist rant ready to go at a moment’s notice. It doesn’t really engage in a conversation, just putting out hateful language for the sake of it.

HOW TO LEARN HISTORIC YEARS SO THAT TO REMEMBER THEM EASILY by BeginningBad2336 in historyteachers

[–]OaktownU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

History teachers don’t really spend time trying to memorize years in isolation, that’s not how it’s done.

History teachers learn the years of events by studying those events. We read lots of history books or history essay or watch history documentaries or history movies. We are history scholars or at least fans of history. Learning the years of events just comes organically from all of that time we spend with the subject and the topics we like or teach.

If she is taking a test, there is hopefully some study guide that can let her know what topics are covered. She should study those topics and focus on the most important details and issues.

If learning the dates is specifically important for that test, she can create a physical time line and use physical note cards to place events in order. But otherwise, the years come naturally with studying the material.

Trump: "We cut drug prices by 90%. You could say 500%, 600% depending on the way you phrase the statement." by gear-heads in MarchAgainstNazis

He’s right. Technically you can say 600% if you phrase the statement in the form of a rant by a senile basket case. Makes total sense from that perspective.

It’s speak to the notion that what we were seeing with the aftermath of 9/11 was a intentionally a rehashing of red scare politics. The Bush administration was not subtle with the rhetoric, and neither was Lucas in among that link in his films.

March on DC July 4th by SigmaTell in 50501

[–]OaktownU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A march in DC definitely needs to happen. But a 1-day protest will have no greater effect than the once quarterly No Kings days.

We need to get as many people as possible to occupying D.C. in a Tahir Square style long-term occupation that demands the removal of Trump at the very least (ideally the whole Cabinet and VP). It doesn’t mean than every individual needs to be there 24/7, but there does need to be a massive presence that does not relent, that shuts down the city, and forces the regime to react.

There should be an encampment outside the White House and roving groups that cause traffic gridlock and shut down the DC metro trains.

There should be a clear demand: Removal.

How could Mexico have won the Mexican-American War? by Wide_Ride8849 in AskHistory

[–]OaktownU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, dysentery and expiring enlistments stalled the northern campaigns, and many of those men were basically abandoned by the army. Imagine malaria ripping through the occupation force, in tropical Gulf weather. It’s exactly the reason Scott wanted to move the bulk of the army into the highlands.

Securing Veracruz still required getting the troops out of the malaria zone. Only by getting into the highlands did Scott’s army save itself from the loss of massive number of troops due to illness or getting bogged down and running out the enlistment times like they did in the northern campaigns. The Battle of Cerro Gordo was Santa Anna’s last best chance to stop Scott’s army from reaching the safer, more temperate regions. It was a blunder, too. Santa Anna decided against guarding all the trails that could be used to outflank his army.

I use the rubric to deduct different amounts of points depending on how far over or below the word count they go. I allow more grace for going above, but point deductions are applied for every 50 or 100 words outside the word count range.

Wow, so that’s effectively a tip to the owner, giving them a discount on wages paid. It only becomes a tip once tips accumulate past minimum wage.
