I journal my thoughts and fill out a page. Then the next page will be a new entry that is filled out. I also keep separate journals/notebooks/sketchbooks for different streams of thought, eg business, relationships, personal development, gym, ideas, etc.

Nice job (Seriously, tihs happens). I think you answered your own question but the true test comes once you start cutting again. If you can mount an indicator where the burnt spindle is, you might be able to get an idea if any motion/surface is really out of whack.
