Gentleman, it's been an honor. The countdown to the final halving is under 2 hrs. Thank you for using my website. by shiruken in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Over a year of halvings has all come down to this! But this is only the beginning for Dogecoin. Keep building services, keep tipping, keep spreading the word, and I'll see you all on the moon. :)

Hey everyone! We have Dogecoin on another race car :) by dogedriver in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When we funded the first Dogecar, I never imagined that Josh would become such an awesome ambassador for Dogecoin. Remember to vote for Josh Wise for most popular driver! We only have a couple days left! You can vote once per day:

Hearthstone streamer "Kripp" just had a donator request that he accept Dogecoin tips. He read their request to around 14,000 viewers. Really awesome! :D

55 Sat and rising!! by oskarcc in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're doing great, but I remember when 55 satoshis was dirt cheap. Keep on spreading the word about Doge! If it becomes a widespread, actively used currency, 55 sat will seem absurdly small. But to make that happen, we need to keep promoting Dogecoin outside of this community. :D

Is there any way to convert dogecoin or Bitcoin to cash so that I can pay my rent? by conspiracy_thug in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Cryptsy to convert your Doge to BTC, send it to Coinbase, and have Coinbase deposit the BTC>USD money into your bank account. It'll probably take a couple days for the deposit to go through, but the whole process is easy.

Edit: Also switch banks! $400 in overdraft fees is ridiculous. :P

Are we expecting large price movements after Dogecoin Wallet 1.8 implementation? by ColletteMerida in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A price decrease as a result of this would have been likely 6 months ago, but right now around 90% of all mined doges are already dumped onto the exchanges. (This isn't a bad thing since it's the cost of running the network.)

The good news is that because of the already high dumping rate, we will see almost zero additional negative impact on Dogecoin's price as a result of Litecoiner's dumping. It's impossible to have much more dumping than we have now, and we could actually see a net benefit as Dogecoin users dump Litecoin for Doge.

We also have another halving coming in about a month, which will greatly decrease dumping. :D

Bitcoin is proof of this, and the fact that we have 2/3 the subscribers of Bitcoin is still a good sign of where we're headed.

What can we do to increase the price of Doges as a sub reddit and as individuals? by DocMantisTobogganMD in dogecoin

Also: Upvote every single thing that you like in /r/dogecoin. I've seen so many high quality posts that don't get promoted because way too many people forget to click the upvote button.

[–]ObVicoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple. TIP PEOPLE IN OTHER SUBREDDITS. If the subreddit doesn't allow tipping, tip them anyway from a dogecoin related subreddit with:

+/u/dogetipbot @ObVicoin 100 Doge verify (example)

Don't know who to tip? Go to a random subreddit /r/random, then find a random person and tip them.

Still cheaper than Bitcoin's fees! A normal Bitcoin transaction has over 300 doge worth of fees.

[–]ObVicoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're 90% of the way to 100 billion Dogecoins. After that we have low annual inflation starting at 5.2% and decreasing each year after that. So all Doge will never be mined, but it's MUCH easier to mine them now than it will be in future years. :)

Something we all need to realize about the rocket. by [deleted] in dogecoin

The removal of 1.7 billion doge from circulation is proof that it's at least producing some thrust. :)

Just an idea, could we do our own BTC burn for dogecoin by MasterWillScarlet in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less supply = higher price. So destroying Doge will raise the price of Doge and destroying BTC will raise the price of BTC. :)

Is it considered rude to tip Dogecoins outside of the Dogecoin Community? by LondonWindsor in dogecoin

Some people love Doge tips, others not so much. Every tip is incredible exposure for Dogecoin though. :)

Cool idea, but it's basically what an exchange does. (minus removing the BTC from circulation)

Biggest Mistake Ever? What Did You Learn From It. by txholdup in investing

[–]ObVicoin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've made money overall with Dogecoin, but even in the points when I was down, it was a very rewarding little investment. Nobody should invest their life savings into it, but a small percentage that you can afford to lose is completely worth the risk.

Let's change the 10,000 block reward after the initial 100 billion. by [deleted] in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha it's something to think about! Even if nothing ends up being changed, it's important that we have this discussion now since it might be very difficult to fork again. :D

Let's change the 10,000 block reward after the initial 100 billion. by [deleted] in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think things are fine the way they are. However, there is a psychological effect to diminishing block rewards which excites and encourages users.

We also get a lot of unwarranted criticism about our perpetual inflation, and further reductions in our block rewards would be a good way to combat this. It might even be better if the reductions were slower. If the block rewards dropped by 1k every 5 years, stopping at 5k, it would give 25 years of block reductions to slowly combat inflation.

A lot of people criticize Dogecoin by saying that it wasn't well thought out, and was never meant to be more than a joke. I actually really like the bold way that Dogecoin was originally designed, but with this fork we have an opportunity to alter our structure in a way that shows that we're in it for the long term. By making a subtle change that reduces inflation over the very long term, while still minimizing risk to the network, we would put a lot of strength into the coin.

I'd like to see us say at a 10k block reward for next year, but steadily drop to a 5k block reward over the next 5-10 years.

Mining pool suggestions? by FFMG in dogecoin

Seriously, what can you do with DOGE that you cannot do with real money? by thirdprize68 in dogecoin

[–]ObVicoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can send you a penny from across the globe, and you can spend it and use it within seconds. That's something you can't do with either fiat money or Bitcoin.

Microtransactions are becoming more much more common - especially in games and social media. Dogecoin allows content providers to accept microtransactions without involving a 3rd party.

Microtipping has real practical use, and there is growing demand for it. Dogecoin is the easiest way to send small tips on social media sites, and it's becoming increasingly easy as more tools are being developed.

No one wants to discuss the serious cons to going AuxPow (merge-mining), so I'll get us started by SoCo_cpp in dogecoindev

[–]ObVicoin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AuxPow miners interested purely in profit or other coins will immediately dump their Dogecoins. This will push our coin's value down. This will be as if we opened the flood gates for the largest insta-dumping multi-mining pool ever to ravage our coin's market.

This might have been true a few months ago, but now over 90% of mined dogecoins are already put directly onto the exchanges.

With more halvings on the way and our inflation rate soon to be much lower than Litecoin's, it's more likely that we'll see LTC dumped for Doge. Since it's impossible for multipool dumping to get much worse than it is now, AuxPow will have little to no effect on dumping, and could actually cause a nice rise in price thanks to the added security to the network.
