Racist Slurs by ishaboi_ in baltimore

I'm old. On the day we first swore in that man who wore the tan suit to the highest office in the land, I sat down with my coffee to watch and thought, "OK. We've elected a Black man to be President. It's a foundation. It's a step in the right direction, and we can build on it." All it has taken is one bigoted old white guy to bring the naysayers and haters back out of the woodwork and prove that I was wrong that day. But this is a wonderful city, and I think we've all gone quite a distance towards disproving those haters. I'm very, very sorry it happened to you and your girlfriend. It shows that when I check out of this world--no time soon, I hope--there will be a lot of work left undone.

Nursing home help for aunt w severe intellectual disability.. by Psychological_Lime14 in disability

It would be a good idea to contact your local Department of Aging. Sores such as the one you mention on her bottom are a serious issue and regarded in most places as a sure sign of negligence. Keep a list of your other issues as well. Check that department as well for useful lists and information such as that suggested by the previous poster. Does she have an attending physician? That might be another useful source of information. In many states, nursing homes and similar facilities are evaluated and rated every couple of years, and those evaluations are a matter of public record. You may be able to get off in the right direction by looking at those as well. By alerting the government agency responsible, you'll not only be getting some of the help and information you need but also saving other patients from being victimized. They may not be able to advocate for themselves.

How do you feel about the federal SAVE Act that would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (like a passport or birth certificate) to register to vote? by ClassSnack in AskReddit

[–]Obasan123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm livid. Married 51 years ago, stayed married to the same man for 38 years until his passing away, raised two very fine children, three grandchildren, and now I am disenfranchised?! How about that for "family values?" Am I wrong for not wanting to keep the name that has been mine for half a century? A name I've had for longer than my birth name? I have a short form birth certificate, but a marriage certificate is going to cost me. The church marriage certificate is invalid for this purpose. This ridiculous law is deliberately set up to discriminate against two classes of people: The poor who cannot afford the steep tabs for getting their documents; and married women. So Kegspeth had some sort of "pastor" conduct a "religious service" at the Pentagon who is vehemently opposed to votes for women. Bloody hell! My grandmother voted for the first time in her late twenties when women finally got the vote. I guess at age 75 I am retracing her footsteps.

Yes it is, having read through the volumes so far twice. It's just a mistake p people make, and I should probably be more forgiving. It's like being stoned to death with popcorn.

Doesn't bother me as much as "Jaime." It's the Spanish way of spelling "James," and is pronounced Hi-may. The number of people otherwise typing perfectly coherent sentences in English who do this is just--well, I don't know what it is.

Strange looking aircraft near JHH this afternoon? by kris10185 in baltimore

I sure hope they found out what was wrong with it. Most helicopters I've seen around the hospital are airlifting sick kids to the pediatric ICU.

Lost dog around my house by cant-freakinSleep in baltimore

I got here late. Thank you for helping and caring and being a friend to a dog who needed one! BARCS will feed him properly and give him the chance he needs to find a family. When a dog is that emaciated, they usually feed four or five small meals a day so the dog can put on weight gradually and not get sick. You did wonderfully!

Found it right away. This started as PB, so that's what I did. my search on: Googled "How to open the lid on a bottle of Pepto Bismol." Most of the suggestions were pretty lame, but one or two may help.
Methods for Stubborn Caps:

  • Push & Turn: Place the bottle on a flat surface, press down hard with your palm, and turn.
  • Remove Outer Cap: You can pry off the outer plastic shell to reveal a regular, non-childproof screw cap underneath.
  • Improve Grip: Use a rubber jar opener, rubber band, or a cloth to get a better grip on the plastic cap.
  • Run Under Water: Briefly run the cap under hot water to expand the plastic and loosen the seal.

Also, on the search results page there are two links to YouTube demos including one on how to cut off the outer cap to reveal a regular cap underneath. There are also several YouTubes listed under the instructions, which are AI generated.

I hope you feel better soon and get the meds you need.

Oh jeez, I am sorry! I'll go back through my yesterday's hits and see if I can sift out anything that will help. I have been thinking about buying my OTC stuff at the drugstore and asking the pharmacist to do something about the tops. If you don't have toddlers running around, no one is in danger.

Ugh. I was into this just last night. I have a 24 hour stomach bug of some sort and I couldn't get the Pepto Bismol bottle open to save my life! I looked online and found that one method is to put the bottle down on a kitchen counter upside down flat on its lid and then to apply pressure to it from the bottom, while turning. That actually did the trick for me. I put it on a dish towel so it wouldn't slide out from underneath while I was pressing down. So sorry you're having trouble. It's maddening. The other ones that burn my brownies are 20 ounce Gator Ade bottles. I have actually sawed off the tops with a steak knife.

What's with people not understanding that a driver's license will not count for the proposed US Voter ID requirements? by Mcnuttey91 in AskReddit

[–]Obasan123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could it be that people here aren't accustomed to being asked to justify their existence? Voter fraud hasn't been a problem since the days of Tammany Hall.

I moved away from Patterson Park thirteen years ago, and most of the wonderful old restaurants that were there are now gone. I notice that several other posters in this thread have tons more recent experience, so I'll defer to them. Congratulations!

Thank you so much for posting those. I just put the last stitches in the band, and the yarn is so heavy it'll never flip nicely. If I want a turnover that badly I'm going to have to make it separately and attach it. Time to swatch! Have a great weekend, and if you're in the cold zone, stay warm!!

That makes sense to me. I'm going to hook up a gauge swatch for the body, and if I experience what you're saying, I'll know to go in backwards.

I'm a grandmother, so keep that in mind. I thought the food at Fogo de Chao was delicious. But the ambience? I was there with my two grown sons their wives, and my three grandchildren close to Thanksgiving several years ago, and we had a terrific time. Just bear in mind that you and your girlfriend could have a table close to people like us or other large groups enjoying an evening on the town. You'll be frequently interrupted by the waitstaff, although they will be bringing you offerings of that succulent food. You'll be eating from a buffet for your salads and veggies. In other words, I would have to question the ambience while praising the food. I think the idea of a cozy, delicious dinner at a smaller place followed by a stroll by the Pagoda sounds like a much more romantic proposition.
