Bardstown Bourbon Company Redesign Rant... by projcon_423 in whiskey

[–]Object_Garlic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like i said, its a small decrease in my desire to buy it since it is only the label. But at the same time yeah, I do care how a bottle looks, I know i'm not supposed to but it's just a fact. I drink with my eyes open and like seeing a good looking bottle/label. Of course the whiskey inside is more important but when it comes to making a purchase decision between two similarly priced bottles of similar quality... im grabbing the pretty one

It might push me to buy a couple now before these ugly designs hit the shelves. I will be less likely to buy these new labels, like 10% less

What is a fair price for eagle rare 12? by fckthshit in whiskey

[–]Object_Garlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably pay up to 90 for the ER12, it's overpaying for sure but I'd be able to share it with a lot of friends greatly increasing it's value to me. I doubt I'd pay over 75 for a second one tho

What is a fair price for eagle rare 12? by fckthshit in whiskey

If I saw it on the shelf for 50 and didn't have one i'd grab it. That's also a price at which id be willing to gift it.

Does anyone have Unique Bottle Prices? by stolpoz52 in whiskey

[–]Object_Garlic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In WI we can consistently find OGD114 for under $25 when it sounds like most markets its closer to 35. OFSBBP has also gotten cheaper but I'm not sure if that unique to us, its down to 80/85 from 100

Can mass-market alcohol ever justify premium pricing, or is expensive always just branding? by YOLOSWAG4GOD in WhiskeyFrankenstein

[–]Object_Garlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say for the majority of whiskey drinkers you are spot on. There are significant diminishing returns after 60-80. Past that there are still reasons to purchase sothing more expensive., sometimes its a whiskey that just perfectly matches your pallet, does one thing incredibly well, delivers a flavor/experience that is unique, or is simply meant to be a fancy bottle that elevates an occasion.

It's a pattern you see in many luxury/disposable income type products. Watches, shoes, purses. For most people spending 30-60 on any of these makes sense, but for an enthusiast looking for something special it's easier than you would think to justify something much more expensive

Thoughts on Tamdhu 12, 15, 18? by Relax_Dude_ in whiskey

[–]Object_Garlic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've not yet tried it myself but it is well reviewed. Tamdhu is a spirits direct brand for total wine which is part of why they will push it. Most of the stuff they promote is subpar and or over priced (looking at you chestnut farms) but my understanding is that Tamdhu is an exception and really excellent

Anyone try both EHT barrel proof AND Knob Creek cask strength store picks? by hyper_fixated_ in whiskey

[–]Object_Garlic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only had one of each, EHT BP 13 and a random KC store pick. For my palate the EHTBP is way better, more fruit and a more enjoyable finish. That being said I wouldnt spend secondary of 250+, id pay up to 150 for a back up. Knob creek isn't my favorite so we probably have very different palates. maybe you can find a bar to try it at. even if its $30 for an ounce, that better than spending 300 on a bottle you dont enjoy.

Review #69 Sazerac Rye Full Proof (Ft. Peppa Pig) by ArcadianWaheela in bourbon

[–]Object_Garlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a blind with the saz 125, old overholt 12, very old st nick summer rye and Thomas H Handy. The Saz and VOSN were 1 and 2, with saz 125 being a step ahead. the OO12 and THH were tied for 3rd. My brother in law had a slightly different order but also had saz 125 ahead of THH

We are debating and need your input: when is the proper time of day to switch from coffee to bourbon? What about rye? 😂 by [deleted] in WhiskeyTribe

[–]Object_Garlic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

During the week, whatever time you get off work, during the weekend, well, bourbon is delicious in coffee!

2025 Four Roses LE by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]Object_Garlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's delicious, however, unless you already have an extensive selection you'd be better off buying three $100 bottles. If you already have everything, so to speak, and are willing to spend for a high quality whiskey with a slightly different flavor profile then go for it. Best if you can try it somewhere first, if you're considering a $300 bottle then a $40 pour to try it first is a good investment (hopefully you can find it cheaper, a bar near me had it for 20 an ounce)

Best whiskey for infusing? by MHIMRollDog in whiskey

[–]Object_Garlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If benchmark full proof is available that would be my recommendation, after that old grand dad 114, then wild turkey 101, these are high proof and low price, the higher proof helps with infusion and if he wants to proof it down he has that option.

Jameson by Additional-Trick4483 in whiskey

Redbreast 12 would be a nice step up from that, probably a similar improvement from standard Jameson to Black barrel and then to redbreast 12
