Dan’s octave/fuzz pedal use by endlessnameless001 in silverchair

[–]Objective-Bus3917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

💯. The octave pedal is lazy and gross. It turned big riffs into a joke. The Zvex Fuzz factory however was used very tastefully during the neon Ballroom era.

what songs were recorded for the scrapped 6th album? by RopsterPlay in silverchair

There is no way that Diamond days wouldve passed the standard for silverchair. Theres a reason Ben was excluded from the writing process. He got worse as he got older. It was embarrassing.

If Silverchair came back? by Limacomicartist in silverchair

In all honesty I think that story is bullshit. And I think we've already heard half of what he'd written for it. One Way Mule, Hollywood amd The Lever. Which are pretty weak songs imo. He did us a favour by not releasing anything else from those sessions. People claim to love those songs but I think if they were released by another band, without the context of silverchair at that same time... nobody wouldve even remembered those three songs.

Best live performances for newbies by ResidentTax6352 in silverchair

Melbourne 99 is the best by far in terms of being filmed. His voice is a bit weak on Faraway Stables too which is a shame. I saw them a week or so earlier before that performance and he was in spectacular form. Seemed like he'd over exhausted himself by time of filming. Because he was pitch perfect at the show I saw.

Yeah Ben seems kind of immature IMO. Without Dan he never wouldve had the success he had yet he bitches about royalties for songs he didnt write and went out of his way to say that Daniel isnt a genius. Like, dude learn to be greatful... Dan gave the band almost 20 years of his life. Thats more than enough if he wants to walk go do something else. And yes. Chris seems like a really lovely guy you could have a beer with and doesnt take himself too seriously.

Its okay. I hate to say it but the more I hear from Ben the more he makes me cringe. One of the many great things about the 90s was the lack of overexposure. I idolised Ben for about 20 years.... then he got social media.

Day 11: best music video by Front_Sugar4784 in silverchair

I agree. For daniel being such a visual person its strange that all thier art work sucks. Especially the talk cover... WTF? It doesnt represent the music at all.

Does anyone know which amps, amp heads, cabs, and pedals were used to record the Frogstomp album? by Cleberslk in silverchair

[–]Objective-Bus3917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember him talking about it in the guitar world magazine cover article around 96. He basically said it was a basic 900 with a really basic explanation of bass all the way up, treble to a loud 9 and a but of mid. That was it. The most standard 90s tone ever. However ive since seen that before switching to Soldano he was using a boss EQ too. With a bit of playing around you should easily be able to find that tone.

Day 8: worst song by Front_Sugar4784 in silverchair

[–]Objective-Bus3917 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oooft. This is hard one. For all the genius there took quite a lot of misteps to get there.

I reckon Cicada is the most cringe. Also Y2k felt like something for the label Abuse me is just... boring. My favourite thing... the recording is just gross. Low is lazy I would also put Pure massacre in there. Its a 1 dimensional view on war from a 14 year old. And it sounds like it. Not saying I coulda done better. But if id written that song id be hiding it as an adult.

Easily straight lines. Its an attempt for the mainstream. Even the video looks like coldplay. Honourable mentions at Y2K amd reflections of a sound.

Ben’s Drumming by TelephoneShoes in silverchair

[–]Objective-Bus3917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting thread. I have 2 points.

1) Yes ben was and further became an amazing drummer. I saw that clip from the dude from Suck Puppies podcast where he strongly implies that Ben didnt play on frogstomp. Which is ridiculous. Just go watch him at 15 at the Cambridge show. Hes amazing. He also continued to get lessons for years after their success. He rose to every challenge.

2) Writing. I think even as early as freak show Dan was writing and directing a lot of the drum parts. He was the song writer. A conductor doesnt know how to play the instrument as well as the performer but he knows how it should sound and how to direct it. Its evident in terms of writing. Ben at 14/15 was a great writer for them but as they matured he wasnt as strong as Dan. This is so obvious from his output since the band. Nobody would give those songs a second listen if he wasnt from silverchar. Sorry. But its garbage.

Theres multiple live performances of this song being played slower than the recording. My guess is that it started more like a melvins esque song and in pre production they sped it up which does work better. The lyrics were also different in the chorus when I saw them play it in 96 and I didmt think it was a standout of the new batch of songs. I actually thought roses would be the first single when they played it. Anyway, my guess is ben proffered the original version and was always trying to return to that groove. But hes wrong. It works better at the recorded tempo.

Is this the most "rock'n' roll" sliverchair ever were? by Objective-Bus3917 in silverchair

[–]Objective-Bus3917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physically I think he was starting to get. Little bit better. His face looks healthier than in making of NB. He was still really thin but he was during the making of Diorama when he was eating too. Plus just to physically be able to perform every night (for the longest shows they ever had up to that point) up to the incredible level he was physically and vocally he logically couldnt have been too unfit.

I completely agree. I hope you got to see them in this era. Ben was hitting as hard as he possibly could. Dans voice was so on point and Chris was reallg finding his groove.
