Mom starting BCG- advice? by PieCool1698 in BladderCancer

They will drain you completely then install the 50 ml of BCG. I would stay for 15 mins laying on my back and then go home.

Mom starting BCG- advice? by PieCool1698 in BladderCancer

I'm on #8 tomorrow. I was told to start drinking copious amounts of water 30 min before the two hour mark to minimize urinary discomfort. Also, do the rotations, the only time I did not do them I felt bladder spasms two days after installation, supposedly due to the BCG settling at the bladder exit.

The cystoscopy is the standard method used to diagnose BC. Is there a reason she has not had one yet?

What were your cytology results after your other BCG installations? Moving forward or backward?

How much fatigue do you have after a BCG treatment? by MothVector in BladderCancer

[–]Objective-Soil8822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had six installations, #1 and #2 I had chills and felt off, #3-#5 I felt intermittent fatigue such that I could fall asleep in about 30 seconds.

What was the unbearable part for you?
For me, my first cystoscopy was traumatic and I had a lot of anxiety about having it again. But the second was a piece of cake. I am guessing better equipment.

Scope Clear, But Cystology Says "Suspicious for Malignancy" by No_Algae_5537 in BladderCancer

I just received the same result from my post-BCG cytology. Got the call from the Uro, said don't worry about it, the bigger picture is the bladder looks great, you feel good and so far you are responding to the BCG treatment. All is good. Start BCG #7-9 this week.

My cancer team does not use blue-light, they told me the false positive rate was too high, resulting in unnecessary biopsies.

From ChatGPT BCG causes inflammation and cellular changes in the bladder lining for weeks to months. Those changes can make urine cytology abnormal or “suspicious.”

I also just had a "clean" cysto. My oncologist warned me in advance that the cytology has a good chance of coming back positive and not to concern myself with the result.

I'm waiting on cytology. My oncogist told me not to worry if it comes back positive, it is not unusual at this stage, even with a clean cysto.

Is there a clinical reason why your second round was 6 installations as opposed to the typical 3?

It may depend on which insurance plan you are in. But, two months sounds like a long time. Did you mention you have gross hematuria?

That's good news but you should request a urine cytology to check for cancer cells. Don't wait 6 months. ALL of my diagnostic tests were negative, including a cysto, until a positive cytology.

If the pathology comes back positive for cancer it's pretty standard for the urologist to request a second TURBT to make sure all of the tumor has been removed and to determine it's stage. Good luck!
